I don't really have the words but the beauty of Quantum Witch deserves that I at least TRY, even if I'll fall FAR short of the wonderful writing it has.

It's not a 'platformer', it's very much the PLOTformer it's billed as so don't expect Prince of Persia or Dizzy (though there are many aesthetic similarities)

It made me think of the sort of depth the C64 game Portal had with a whole world opening up for you to explore, along with the feeling (and humour) of Monkey Island and the more modern Portal you're probably more aware of. But with less of the getting lost or fiddly jumps and annoying deaths. But that's not to say it isn't affecting. You may think a game that doesn't 'punish' your mistakes or let you get lost (and contains a Skeleton that can see through time to provide help whenever you need it) isn't going to be a challenge and at first you'll play it and think "Oh I get it, I see where this is going" and you'll 'complete' it and then it opens up more and then more again, like a kaleidoscope in a hall of mirrors in a hypercube in a really nice dress. With pockets!

I don't think I've felt so touched by a game since Journey and I can see myself coming back to this as much as I have with that, if not more. I've reached three endings so far just in the few hours since release and have no idea how many more I have to go. I was going to stop after the second one but somehow found myself going straight back in again. So, y'know, beware of that if you have that same kind of hyperfixation as I do. (You might also think that maybe after 4-5 hours of constant play the music may get a bit repetitive but nope, so kudos on that front too)

And I haven't even mentioned yet that you can pet animals (and robots), that it is genuinely funny (and corny too) and you repeatedly find yourself empathising with so many different people in the game and I still don't know how many more people's storylines I have yet to discover.

Buy a copy for yourself and another for a friend or partner and share Ren's emotional journey. It's a thing of beauty and I wish there were more games like this. Maybe one day Nikki will make another but they should rest up for now and enjoy the acclaim and plaudits they very much deserve for this work of love.
