Ive been playing before the Steam release. PoE is truly a game i've never been bored of, whether i'm playing with my bf or playing solo. It might be hard to grasp and get into for someone completely new (what isn't though?), but once you get the hang of it and figure things out you become addicted.

I have played Diablo II, and Diablo III. I never purchased Diablo III, I could barely play through the trial. I can't fully compare Path of Exile's likeliness and differences to Diablo III; and while it feels like Diablo II, I can't entirely say that because PoE just feels like, well, PoE.

It is truly a free to play game, the only things you can buy are cosmetic effects and pets (weapon effects, alternate skill animations, armour glowy effects, footprint effects, etc). The various supporter packs they offer periodically let you purchase physcal merchandise bundled with other in-game goodies, again entirely cosmetic. A player who is serious about collecting and crafting might find that the 4 default stash tabs won't be of much help to them. PoE offers a premium stash tab bundle for about 20 USD, these go a looooong long way. If you've reached the point where you're thinking about crafting and investing then 20 USD is super affordable, especially for free game as well developed as this. Someone had once said PoE is P2G; Pay to glow. This pretty much sums it up.

Aside from that, PoE keeps me entertained with their 4 month challenge leagues. These leagues have their own set of rules and mods. It's always fun completing challenges and planning old builds around new changes, and even new builds entirely. Unique items designed by players and devs alike can drastically change a build for better or worse. With the skill tree being as huge as it is, you never run out of builds to try. You could be a witch and wield a bow, a ranger and wield a wand, it's satisfying planning out your build and reaching the point where it shines. End Game maps are both challenging and rewarding (to me at least, others will disagree ;) ) Path of Exile's frequent updates, whether they be bug fixes or new content, are always welcomed. I love seeing a game maintained and updated as well as PoE is.

The Devs and staff take part in the community; they don't put out messages/updates and forget about their players. My personal experiences have been nothing but postive.

Path of Exile is known for its desync problems. I've had my share of issues, especially while on hardcore servers. You can almost always tell when you are desynced. Some builds desync more than others too unfortunately, so if you are one of those people that likes to play hardcore only modes, PoE might not be for you. A simple /oos command fixes any sync issues, and if you can learn to play around the desync then it really is an enjoyable game. That is maybe the only downside to an otherwise outstanding game.

As others have said, the game is completely free, so why not check it out? Whatever you decide, happy gaming! :)
