Early Access Review
EDIT: I have replayed the game a few weeks after this review after the wipe and many patches. I will commend the devs for making an effort to fix the game, but it's objectively worse. Before I could recommend this to the adventurous VR player who has too much patience and a timer set for an hour fifty to return it after the timer goes off, but now I can't even do that. It's at most a 3/10 and that's being generous. Your backpack, the thing full of the loot you fought to get, will randomly vanish out of your hands while you sort and organize stuff in it. Footsteps are too quiet, your magazines will randomly unload themselves mid fight or when you spawn in, and a myriad of other bugs. DO NOT PLAY THIS.

TLDR: This is the buggiest, weirdest, most RNG game I've ever played in my life. Please do not buy this, and if you do set a time for one hour and 50 minutes so you can return the game for a refund. You'll want to. Its not ready for a release of any kind, come back in 6 months. 4/10, play if you're willing to put up with the bugs that make the game basically unplayable at some points.

Full review: I have played tons of hours of this game (25.7 at the moment) since about a week from posting this review, so I can say with absolute certainty I've given it a fair shake. The amount of time I've played gives me one impression only; this game is not ready. Its not ready for Early Access, its not ready for early release, its not ready for anything beyond beta testing at best. I wonder if the Devs have ever played this game with the amount of strange, infuriating and absurd bugs that there are in this. I lost two firefights in two hours because the gun I was using disappeared out of my hand, never to be seen again. This happens in every location, in game and in the safehouse. There are holes in the world at certain angles, the render distance makes it look like parts of the universe are just floating, and items fall through the map disturbingly often. More than that, its an extraction shooter, so what you lose you lose for good.

On the other hand, the guns in this game do feel good when they work. The models are good, the sounds are good, and shooting someone in the head with a G17 has genuinely never been more satisfying than this game. The armor customization system is cool but needs to be baked for awhile longer, as right now it hardly feels like the armor protects you at all and just makes you a larger target for the tradeoff of intimidation factors and more storage of mags on your chest. You CANNOT store anything but your gun on your chest without a vest, leaving you to fumble with your adventure bag you bought for 450$ on the Tabor Market to try and pull your mags out before the AI or the player with better gear kills you. Its an awkward system but one that encourages you to actually prepare before you go out and do a run, which depending on the kind of gamer you are is good or bad.

The AI are a wildly mixed bag. Sometimes they can't see me if im right in front of them and sometimes they spot me at 500 meters and start shooting at (and hitting me) with a pistol. The voices are dead giveaways, the lines are cheesy and its easy to tell apart the normal, paced sounds of AI footsteps versus the manic and crazed sounding steps of the players (the lack of a sprint button makes that more obvious than it needs to be as well.) They are wildly accurate sometimes and sometimes can't hit a wall in front of them, or only hit a wall in front of them. Its hard to give them a fair shake since they're so different, which feels more real, but also makes for a confusing and unpredictable combat loop where you're just waiting to get third partied by another 6 AI or a player.

I think that this game needs more time in the oven. Like, alot more. Especially with the wipe happening soon, it makes it all feel pointless when you play so much and earn nothing but sore knees from the lack of a crouch button. I encourage the devs to work on this game, I want this game to be good, so I'm not saying don't play it. But play at your own risk, lord knows I did. 4/10.

Update: The game still sucks, all issues remain the same.

I will update this as I experience more of the game, because I will continue to give it a fair shake, but don't expect much of what I said to change.

I've played Team Fortress 2 for a long time. Since 2014 across all different accounts. And to me, I've lived through the most dry era of content in the history of the game with Value basically deciding it was a money printer instead of a game dev. But TF2's magic isnt post launch support, not fully. Its the game and the endless possibilities. Its an endless gameplay loop and the post launch just injects more random stuff into that gameplay loop and it makes for a satisfying, cathartic if not a little repetitive system. Its a blast most of the time, even with the hackers and the cheaters and stuff.

8/10, worth investing time into to get fully immersed in the game.

It's a cool game but it can get boring after you clear the levels. And even then, can't say it will hold everyone's interest all the time.
