This game has the energy of really good Game Maker 5.0 games I used to play in the mid-00s. This is a positive. It's just unrelentingly fun, usually in hour bites. It's a good wind-down at the end of the day, and hits that balance between requiring enough though to be engaging, and passive enough that you can kinda just vibe with it if you're tired/high. Good game. Best $3 I've spent on a game. Feels like finding a gem in a ross dress for less bargain bin when they used to sell pc games by the checkout for some reason.

what if you made serious sam 1 and 2 broken up with perfunctory cutscenes? There's 0 reason to play it unless you somehow want to play more of this after the entirety of 1 and 2. Should have stayed in xbox purgatory.

Tragic tale of a fun, janky game obliterated to look better in order to milk money and then fall apart. The 1.4 edition, I want to say, was the last good version. Every iteration after is a mess.

Currently an actual scam. Do not buy.

I wish Franchise Mode had a little more depth to it. There's such a strong framework, but by the time you reach the 3rd season you have more money than you'd ever need. Would be really cool to have living quarter upgrades or elite players who become available if you beat certain teams with the right kinds of criteria. Monthly challenges, etc.

That being said, I had a great time with it and this is hardly meant to be a super in-depth sim. It's very fun to play, with more nuance than you'd expect. It's just fun. I wasn't sure about the full $15 price, but seeing as I've played 15 hours so far and can see sinking another 10-15 into it, the $1 per 1hr principle more than applies here.

It's fun. Good game. Would love a sequel, but respect a developer who's on to the next thing.

We'll all just have to wait for Tape to Tape

**EDIT** I'm going to leave the original text so it becomes darkly humorous in the months to come as bamco destroys their own game. It was inevitable, but I'd hoped it would take longer

the monetization system is dumb as hell. Extremely difficult to gain resources without no-lifing, which is fine, but it's less fine that the new suits are really strong. The only one that seems truly busted is the Unicorn, which buffs the whole team. Everything else is just a matter of getting used to what's happening.

I had considered getting the melee Zaku, as I love me a big stupid axe, but I can smell the sweaty monetization. I would strongly advocate against spending any $ on this game. They're going to drown the actual fun in stupid distractions.

ORIGINAL REVIEW:

This game is free. It's early days so they haven't had time to add p2w features. It looks like it will have some pretty strict time gating on how much non-premium currency, Capital, you can get in a week.

It's fun to play, very simple at the moment because folks haven't figured out insane movement tech and the level geometry very carefully prevents players from getting into weird areas.

Balance is good. Every "OP" suit has a counter. I like that the Barbatos is allowed to be intimidating, and that the GM Sniper is a devastating force if you can hit the very tiny headshot hitboxes. The former is hard countered by dashing, the latter by getting in its face at all. It's good. I see a suit in the field and know what to do about it. Whether I can execute is another thing.

I don't have the time to dump into learning Apex, I don't hate myself enough to Overwatch, and I'm too old & tired to play TF2.

This game feels like an older style of shooter. Smooth zippy movement, no midair sniping, abilities are nice but your ability to position and aim takes priority.

It'll probably suck ass in a year once the WarThunderification begins, but for now I'm happy to shoot robot. Zaku and Methuss go brrrr.

Has some of the ugliest cosmetics I've ever seen, which gives me hope that they spent more time on making it play fun than they did on figuring out how to fill the cash shop.

Game looks great, guns feel amazing to use, so much love & enthusiasm has gone into this game.

**BUT**

Sound proximity is all over the place. In the first level there is constant "ZONE A CLEAR. ZONE B CLEAR. ZONE A CLEAR" ad nauseum from the enemies. When you are outside and down the street, you will hear it as though they are next to you. Walking through the building itself is aggravating because you can't really tell where they are. If you are in a room with them, the barks accurate convey distance, but if not it's like your character is wearing headphones & listening to their radio chatter directly.

AI: They got stuck on everything. Going through doors was a real ordeal. There's a staircase with two inaccessible pools of water next to it - or at least, I assume inaccessible, as I was not able to jump over the little ledge and stand in them. All three squadmates jumped in the water and jittered around while I finished the level without them. Weird. The enemies also tend to get stuck on things and just shoot until they're forced to reload. Sometimes it all clicks and works as intended, but the second a door or transparent object is involved (windows, grates, etc) they have no idea what's happening.

3d models: This likely is a problem with the fact that I have an AMD card and they stopped supporting OpenGL, but dear god do the 3d models make the game chug. You can disable them, but at least on my end this caused a very funny visual glitch where they were all replaced with distorted flat thumbnails that had the red/green/blue manipulator arrows on them.

Collision: Again, probably an openGL/AMD interaction issue, but I kept being shot through places that looked solid, or not being able to shoot through what looked like open air in hallways/over the hood of cars. The invisible barriers were always parallel to a nearby surface. I have this exact issue occur in GZDoom games, such as Hedon Bloodrite, if they are set to use openGL.

tl;dr has potential to be amazing, all the elements are here, I'm not going to write a negative review of a free game that feels this good to play, especially when I'm pretty sure half the issues I'm having are an AMD issue that's really not the developers' fault.

100% give it a shot, see if it runs for you :)

Not that complicated or mysterious as folks make it out to be.

For the first level, pick up one bible page to put a verse on the bottom of the screen, kill one Cherubim when it shows up to make sure you have enough fuel, and then sit and wait until your faith climbs by itself. Bam. Easy.

For the second level, don't let up the shooting button. It is a very short level. Shoot the blue things with the long lasers as soon as their lasers disappate (or before if you can get close enough). The final boss has a very easy pattern if you stick around the upper 3rd of your screen and make small movements up and down.

The third level is more weird meta ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Remember what button you were holding when you find a Tree, so you don't lose which way you're going as the screen spins.

Fourth level is the final boss, who forgets that this is a meta indie aesthetic game and is actually very tough. Don't look at him, just look at your ship and tap the arrow keys, don't hit them hard. Takes a while to beat.

This game is not as bad as people say it is, because it is completely functional under its own set of bizarre rules (until the boss, who is straight up bullet hell shooter).

Get it on sale and beat it to say you did.

Only good with a controller. Pretty good action game with a cool premise and fun combat, but nothing new.

Hard to explain.

Simple to play, but elegant, kind of like an old Zelda. Also one of the most beautiful games I've ever played, with a fantastic soundtrack.

Go play it.
