Early Access Review
At the time of writing this review, ULTRAKILL is in early access, and the furthest available level to play is 4-4. ULTRAKILL's gunplay and movement feels very polished and rewarding, and the game encourages players to take full advantage of their mobility. Despite the high mobility and long range of many weapons, the game's unique health regen system, which requires players bathe in the blood of enemies, provides players with an incentive to fight enemies up-close instead of staying at the borders of the map and shooting from afar. Each weapon and their variants feel unique, and I found myself naturally cycling through each weapon on every level. Though the low-poly art style may not be for everyone, it is very fitting for the game, and, in my opinion, was executed well. Each boss fight feels unique and challenging, and they force you to use your mobility to its fullest extent, creating extremely chaotic, but rewarding fights. The amazing soundtrack only adds to the atmosphere, especially during the already great boss fights. The music references are also a nice addition.

ULTRAKILL fills the hole that Titanfall 2 left in me, and as a fan of movement-based shooters, I can't recommend it enough. Unlike many current games produced by AAA studios, ULTRAKILL was not made for the sake of satisfying shareholders, and it is clear as day that the game is a product of Hakit's passion. I have faith in indie devs such as Hakita, and I am excited for the game's future.
