Early Access Review
A lot of people tend to recommend games on Steam for what that could be or what they'll eventually be, instead of as they are right now. At the time of this review I've played Beastieball pretty much as soon as it came out and I've played through the entire game, collected all Beasties, and played the post game content. Even in the state the game is currently in, I highly recommend it. It's been an incredible journey and a ton of fun. For the price point you are going to get your money's worth and if you think it's the kind of game you'll enjoy, you'll definitely enjoy it.

Obviously the game isn't the next Baldur's Gate 3, and there's still work to be done on it. As a player the things that you'll notice missing the most are the animations for Beasties and the lack of public matchmaking online. What I was surprised to see in it's early access state was the amount of passion and attention to detail put into the world. There's a lot the game does to try and make you feel immersed in the setting and make everything around you feel alive, even if it mostly consists of bobbing .png images. I really got attached to my team and felt the stakes of every match.

The gameplay is extremely solid, and there's a lot to learn and master. There's plenty of Beaties to use on your team and they have surprisingly flexible build variety. A single Beastie often has a few different ways they can be utilised and every Beastie feels unique and valuable in some capacity. All of this isn't even factoring the overall team composition, which is often greater than the sum of its parts. While there is private matchmaking I haven't had the opportunity to do PvP but I only imagine the cruel mind games that go on in there.

Unfortunately the game is still (as of the time of this review) early access. I have had the game crash a couple of times, though never in critical moments and not at the loss of progress. There is some lack of polish that becomes a bit more noticeable in the post game as well. But the entire story and all the gameplay elements are there, and nothing about those have their corners cut. It's a full length game with fun and evolving gameplay.

There's so much more I want to talk about but it's best to keep those elements a surprise and let you enjoy the experience. Again, even in the current state, I recommend this game. It will only get better in time and if you've been on the fence about getting it I say go for it.
