way back when, when i originally started playing the game was fun and didn't have that many issues, could easily trickshot with no penalty besides a stroke for missing. Now if you even tap an out of bounds spot you get reset, even if you make it back to the course, even with the proper setting enabled to stop that from happening. my friends and i tried three courses, including forest, known for its easy trickshots. and got reset any time we so much as touched out of bounds. and don't even get me started on the paid dlc that comes with achievements
