Everything is really great (the movement is a highlight), but the combat is a hit or miss for me, wasn't a big fan but it gets the job done. Peak demo

Starting with the obvious. Yes, pick it up on sale, keep in mind that dlc/expansion 3 is like the one very good dlc, the other two are kinda stinkers.
Feel like some opinions of the game will probably be heavily decided if they come expecting L4D/L4D3 VS just in to play another coop game/shoot a bunch of zombies with friends.
And if you have friends to play with the better because it doesn't have decent player numbers and this makes that one issue all these l4d type games have to be more frequent I guess, where there's the one bum who rushes through the whole thing not giving a damn about the new players/anyone. Happened a bunch of times to me on the easiest difficulty of all places which I find funny.

The game always felt like a mix of l4d and payday to me, maybe a bit of killing floor but I can't explain where that vibe comes from. Honestly the main thing missing from l4d to me would be the writing, it's like one of those things that you think "kinda tough to try hold a candle without that combo of writers" so it didn't bother me. Gun variety is fun, there's a nice amount plus you have a bunch of skins to unlock if you like that sort of stuff. Actually one thing that I felt this game did better than the source material is the gunplay or whatever you call it, you won't like it if want the simple arcadey l4d style, I liked it because that was something that always felt lackluster in the l4d games.
It doesn't have the gore l4d2 has, like maybe a bit more than l4d1 but to my surprise killing ridden (common infected) felt much more satisfying than in those two, that's like second thing I'll give this game a plus over its predecesors. Oh oh, adding to killing stuff: Killing mutations (special infected) doesn't feel good at all compared to the ridden, it's pure dogwater, like it feels raw, undercooked. The dlc mutations suck, sponges, even less cooked than the base mutations. I really digged how the game looks, pretty game and the night levels reminded me of L4D1 which I fuggin love visually.

If you are worried about the card system maybe being to much for you or like you'd rather not have it, let me tell you that it's pretty simple; I don't have the brain to like build classes that are optimal in any game, I just built brainless decks with the cards that made me go "that sounds nice" and they did their job, they are a neat addition and can be pretty funny when you have like 6 cards that make the shotgun reload faster.
I'd say they are like critical at the start when you have like nothing, but after unlocking a bunch it's smooth sailing. Also it's much easier now because you start with your deck rather than how it used to be before, having to select a card from your deck each time you started a level, but that kinda defeated the purpose of having them sadly.

Looking back at launch and overall, putting aside the general reception, this game was kind of a miracle. Under WB publishing, no mtx, like 96% free aside from a couple of skins I think and it didn't feel grindy, the 4 acts that could get pretty lengthy, it ran very well, it was a whole ass game with barely any issues (that I encountered at launch), only one that I could remark from back then was no offline play and they got around that. I like how the weapons (non legendary, those are from the dlc1 I think) they added when dlc2 came out got added free to everyone, same for the new mutations (special infected), I think the new cards from the dlcs too or those just came with updates because I saw dlc related cards just given out. Karlee my beloved...

Overall game was like a 7, maybe barely scratching an 8 for me. Shame general reception is that low because it's not even close to a bad game or a stinker like Darktide, would've been fun with randos. Hope they can get around making a sequel addressing the issues people had.

Oh yeah no versus mode if you are into that :P

I'll throw my two cents just to hate on this dlc.

This wasn't downloadable content.
It was dogwater content.

Well had to go through this game three times thanks to a dingus who thought cgim included the foliage from absolute nature. First 40 hours of vanilla, Second god knows how many more with gunslinger and Lastly like 32 on vanilla from scratch again. Dope game.

My only gripe with this game is that visuals are dogwater, coming from clear sky. So after the first 40 hours got destroyed by attempts of adding cgim, felt like I had enough reasons to use some visual mods. Jumped straight into gunslinger since it was the only way to see cgim working lmfao. Actually great mod, really keeps the vanilla feel intact which is what I hoped for.

Like, the "bigger" map is neat but it really looks worse than SoC. Also it's hard to explain because it does so much more than the previous entries I guess but something about this game feels off, like the world around the player feels deader, yeah it should be the point given the setting but I mean in a videogame way; yeah there's more AI fighting each other all of the time (I guess) but it feels more artificial now. Should mention that somehow, even with the addition of harmonicas, these stalkers barely play any music anymore, somehow felt less than clear sky but at least they tell more jokes?.

God I wish these games could get remastered just so they put work into the localisation and add a subtitles option.

In conclusion, really don't feel like picking one game over the other. They are all equal to me, each has something the other doesn't have. Which made me realize that each entry does like 2 big steps forward and 3 steps back on different areas. And there comes stalker 2 which looks like a steaming pile of something and I can mostly see steps back (barely cooked which tbf I guess it's tradition in this series), but I guess the story is a step forward.
OH, and the finale sucked butt with gunslinger, that foliage does NOT help. It was fine on vanilla tho. I guess they actually broke the curse and did it for the third.

Hope whoever designed these dwarf mutants, burers, preachers, whatever gets burning diarrhea.

(played with the reclamation project mod)

One of the prettiest games I've ever played. Not as good as SoC but still had a lot of fun.

This company saves all the dogwater for the finales, ♥♥♥♥'s unbelievable 2 in a row, praying that third time's the charm, gotta see.

edit: just started CoP, man Clear Sky was BEAUTIFUL holy crap, that game is such a downgrade visually it hurts. First game out of these three to not make me stop and take screenshots because its visuals are worse than the first game's, It's so joever

//EDIT: Aight 1.2 released and it's been almost a year from release, so time to change review//

Starting with my only issue with the game currently. The music, background level music.
There's always been people pointing out things about game's music, there's a reason for that and aside from not being as bombastic as the original's since it went for a more fitting direction.
Issue is that it's as rare as finding water in a desert, every level with the exception of executive has this problem (funny that the most remembered level track from the entire game is the only one that never breaks).
Yeah, the music might play for a couple minutes after launching the game but after that, poof, the only level music layer that works is the droning layer, the rest are dead until a miracle happens.
Thankfully and sadly you can fix it by relaunching the game (obv. until it breaks again, annoying).
Sad there are so many little chunks of music that could play and make a dope level theme but 99% of the players have most likely never noticed that there's music supposed to be playing in each level and not just a never ending droning layer with the ocassional combat music, watched so many streams of people either not noticing or going "game feels a little to quiet" thinking the lack of music is intentional.
Done with music rant.

The more I play the game the more I feel some of the "unfinished" (as in "damn this could've used more work", not talking about cyberspace, like visible damage missing from a chunk of the enemy roster, bridge feeling like it's lacking something not related to the giger stuff, mostly really minor stuff) and it's still a 10/10 game to me. The remaster of the original became my favorite game and like a comfort game to me a couple of years ago, sorta like how people revisit half-life so often, and this Remake did not fail into becoming one. Both games rock equally.
RIP Gamepig, you will be missed.

//EDIT done//

If you never played the original or the enhanced edition, keep in mind that the game (and remake) is not really much of an immersive sim but more of a dungeon crawler; combat is simple, it's lot of maze exploration with backtracking thrown into it. I don't think it counts but it's probably easier to explain this game to someone by telling them it's a fps metroidvania.

Just finished my first playthrough. Got a few things to say.
This remake is shocking (the pun he-man, EAT IT). 10/10 experience for me. Can't believe how amazing and faithful this spin ended up turning out, for better or worse depending on how you look at it. Galactic kudos to everyone involved with the game's development. Also the file size being (as of right now) around 8 gigs was a welcome surprise.

It's a slower paced game with a more grounded tone this time instead of the "cheesy" and some times fast paced nature of the original (both great on their own). All of this is reflected by the music direction this time, which is really good, but keep in mind that currently there's a bug that "kills" the main music layer and you are left out with just the ambience and combat themes working, you can fix it by relaunching the game until it breaks again.
I'm sure there's a ton of people who think this game is silent most of the time because of it. I hope they end up making alternate remixes of the classic songs some day because some times I just need the music to have a little more of the classic groove while not feeling completely thrown off, like that old medical take that used to play in an older demo but is now part of the credits (as much as I love them, playing with the og songs as they are is just horrible, bad fit).

The ending is unfinished, clearly didn't get the time to polish that out but it doesn't really affect my opinion. Just 5 meh minutes out of let's say 28-ish hours of peak won't do sh*t to what I think of the game as a whole.
Speaking of unfinished stuff, there's other things at the moment that need to get touched/polished but it's still an awesome experience at the end. Some of the stuff that couldn't make it to the finish line is gonna get added in future updates. It's gonna be nice for a future replay.

We might've lost the butt line, but instead we are given the most simping for Shodan line ever.

Early Access Review
The game is great and supripsingly polished. There's not much content as of right now, around 2-5 hours for me, depends on you.

But holy shrimp, the base is great, as hard as a diamond. This is an extremely solid foundation for what's to come!

If ya are or were a "dedicated" Doom Eternal player (idk, that who keeps or kept replaying levels and master levels, not getting tired of the game's combat), this probably should be an instant purchase. If not but you liked the game, please keep an eye on the game as it gets content updates (next one's coming in december)
