The single player campaign is great but it's a single player game experience is tarnished by the server issues. If it was just at launch or just in Australia hard to say since there's no communication on this issue.

My experience was having to load the game, endure all their logos and splash screens, getting to a menu where you start the game.

At this point it would load/join server to get to a battle barge.
Then you move your player character up to console to select the game you want, either coop missions, campaign or vs.
Once selected the type, it would do the load/join server yet again.

With all the issues joining friends, we've been through this countless times. There is no cancel so the endless joining has to be ALT F4'd so that whole sequence every single time.

There are only 6 coop missions.
You can't play with your friends, because the servers never work, so you must join randoms.
Then its a coin flip if that joins so you may need to ALT F4 to restart the process unless you want to wait some unknown amount of time till it times out.

For coop, which is where the repayable game loop I wanted is, its restricted to 3 players each having to select a unique class. Without match making this is broken since it will throw you into a game where the class you are trying to level up is already taken and since its a higher difficulty you can't use a different class.

I couldn't play the campaign with my mates since the servers never worked.
I can't do the coop missions for the same reason..
This game has become a case of not bothering to even try because it's probably not gonna work anyway.

The in game graphics looks better then the cinematics.
I can only imagine they went the way they did because in the game your always in you ship.

With the variety of environments I was never bored in my play through. I liked the different ships I used. I can't see the value of some others that seemed objectively bad but could be they just didn't match my play style.

The puzzles aren't too monotonous and the combat is all kinds of fun.

It's a game that gets the core game play right, doesn't try to be something more than it is and delivers exactly what you want, a good, fun experience.

The game is in love with it's self.
The smug self-satisfaction comes on too strong, too early with it's over reliance on being edgy and mysterious

I was utterly bored with the game and couldn't be bothered way too early.
Wish I could give you more of a reason why but back then I couldn't be bothered and every time I see this game in my steam library I roll my eyes.

Game seems rushed and unfinished.
I get that from dialog options like vendors saying to come back later for new stock even though they never getting new stock. Even if you progress in the story and other vendors get new stock old ones still got same old stuff.

The only real let down for me was thought I was trying to get my bike back or fixed up.
That was my biggest motivation and I was waiting for that to happen and suddenly the game was over.

The only mod I could find to address this particular issue of mine, the modder seemed to like the junk look so didn't address it.

Story wise, it's your typical zombie game where no one calls them zombies for reasons.
Most the people are bastards including your character so when you run into one guy who's not a bastard you seem to be at odds with them. This, they actually explain pretty well that most people who are decent didn't survive as being a decent sort of a person tends to mean you try to do the right thing which unfortunately gets you killed.
I'm being vague on purpose because it's something I don't want to spoil. While the story is generic it's still better than I'd expected from standard zombie game.

I liked the hordes of zombies and riding around on my junk pile. I kept trying to paint it up to look a little less junky while waiting for a day to get a decent bike.

The only reason I wouldn't replay this game and my biggest gripe...

You know those really annoying escort missions where you have walk along side someone who is moving at frustratingly slow pace. They made it worse. You move at the slow pace and can't catch up the people who are walking faster than you. Why couldn't they just make it a cut scene so I didn't have to have to hold the W key willing him to go faster.

I bought on deep sale thinking it'll just visual space battle pron.

Played with a trainer because I couldn't be bothered. I just wanted to watch big pretty ships go pew pew pew.
Got to a mission where for some reason my death obsessed death bots decided they weren't gonna kill this guy.
So mission was to disable his ship while killing all his buddies.
Trainer made my ships invulnerable right, so I could use a variety of ships in a variety of combinations to target his components in a variety of order and no matter what he'd be too damaged for me to risk shooting again and could never finish.

What's the point? I could only imagine how frustrating that would be if i'd spent the time playing properly.

Would love this game as a skin for a more competent space warfare game that I'd actually be engaged enough to play properly.

Game play as a someone with many hours in Diablo/grim dawn/path of exile/torchlight/wolcen I can say they got that down pact. Levelling characters are fun. It's like many of the latter, it's end game that falls into can't be bothered territory.

I don't know if its the lag or the bad design in telegraphing which zones are now damage but there is a point where this game made me thing well f' that because every indication I can see says I avoided the zones I needed to avoid I'm dead anyway.

The game wasn't engaging enough to find out what the issue was.

I've played it a couple times levelling the same sorts of characters (only ones that interested me) and keep getting up to that same point,
I got past it one point just upping all my resistances to deal with the inevitable damage despite appearing to avoid it.
I figured it would only get worse from there so what's the point.

There's a guild where you can sell stuff but requires you to level your reputation to buy things, unless they are newly put up for sale.. You level your rep by selling things (I think, it didn't explain it well).. so why put gold on things you are selling because you need the rep more than gold.. due to lack of functional search/filter you spend most your time scrolling through countless pages of the same item for the same price of nil or some stupid amount of gold looking for one thing you might need..

Sure I'd like some more customisation as some of the forced design choices are cringe but overall it was good if you just wanna finish the campaign. I wasn't able to engage with the story, so I skipped it where I could. So maybe if bored and on sale?

Early Access Review
Early Access Review from a Kick Starter.
Only reason not refunded was because kick starter.

Terrible dated graphics, it looks and plays like a Warcraft 3 mod.

I bought into it because I loved the coop gameplay from Starcraft 2. The campaigns from WarCraft and StarCraft are some of my favourite gaming experiences.

This is not that.
If you ever watched Serral vs Maru game in SC2 and thought, yep I can do that, this is your sort of game.

If your more of a casual player like me who loved building fleets of carriers and void rays and watching them go wreck stuff. Not for you.

As I don't know any super hardcore people that likes to micromanage every individual unit in the army and needing the graphics to look plain and clean because they are too busy shooting around the screen attending 100 things at once, I can't recommend it to anyone.

There isn't an option for yes and no for recommendation.
The 130 price tag and in game micro-transactions for a single player game tipped the scales to a no.

This game was great for me because I had a week off work and I was able to just see where the road goes.
No expectations just explore do your thing over very long play sessions without really caring about moving the story forward.

If I was playing this during periods I'm working I wouldn't be able to be distracted by something and spend many hours just seeing whats over there because I would have forgotten about it when I logged back in 3 days later and think what am I supposed to be doing.

About the Micro-transactions.
They are pay to skip the game things. Yes they are available in game, but not immediately and you won't need them if you can spend 80 plus hours a week playing this. If you can't, you may need to, but then you will be skipping the real experience and you'll be paying even more to not play the game.

The single save is understandable given the design of the game. You have a pawn that is persistent, Other players can hire that pawn. If you had more than one save file, then you'll need to have multiple pawns and that gets messy.

New game plus, is pointless. Enemies don't scale so you will get stronger, your pawn will get stronger and new game plus you will just walk around looking at their general direction to kill them.

Wait for deep sale, and to have the time off to play it.

MAJOR ORDER COMPLETED. No Helldiver left behind.

Helldrivers have united in support of our fellow hellsdivers in countries that do not have access to the PSN network when Sony mandated that all linking was mandatory.

Why does this matter?
Developers Arrowhead are passionate about this game and encouraged the community to raise up against the mandate with reviews and refunds etc to make Sony understand that HellDrivers 2 is for everyone.

It is a game that when you play it, it infects your brain and soon you will be united with us screaming DEMOCRACY!!! and LIB ER TEA!!! for the shear joy of it.

It's a game worth fighting for so it's a game worth playing.

I bought it for more than a dollar.
But it was worth it.

There is a satisfying noise when their heads explode. This game makes me feel like a teenager again and I love it.
