Joke aside, this game is honestly really enjoyable.


Pros:
Chess aspect of the game is still pretty important, although now you have to actually consider your captures. While you could easily capture a pawn with a higher piece, you have to double check, making sure the enemy pawn doesn't blast your Queen's face off with a musket.

Gunplay is surprisingly fun. Each piece has 2 abilities and different weapons, allowing for natural counterplays and new strategies which normal chess can't give you.

It's just.. really damn fun? I haven't had this much fun playing chess in YEARS!

Check/Checkmate no longer exist. Your king can make a valiant last stand with his sword and try to deck the life out of the attacking piece, potentially saving yourself from certain doom!


Cons:

Some of the game is slightly buggy.
- Sometimes, pieces fall through the board and become unplayable despite still being in the game. I had it happen to my king, making me immortal as I couldn't lose the game. Fun for me, not so fun for my opponent.
- Rook's grapple hook often fails to work
- Rook's wall sometimes flings when built too close to solid map objects
- King's jump can be used to go out of bounds and clip through walls

Game uses a lot of GPU. Perhaps a crypto miner, perhaps poorly optimised. Honestly if this game is mining ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with my GPU I'm not too offended because it's still fun asf, but still.

Rook has a sniper rifle with a scope, however the scope sensitivity is atrocious and cannot be changed. You're better off just hipfiring with it and praying.

You get hitmarkers for hitting pieces even if they aren't part of the combat. Not a major issue, but it sometimes throws me off when I'm trying to shoot a player's pawn, hit a non-player pawn and I still get a hitmarker.

Overall, I still recommend this game. Great for a few hours of fun with a friend, although currently too buggy and unoptimised to be worth investing longterm effort into. A few fixes and patches would make this game perfect.

Best christmas gift of my 2021! Way more replayable than I thought, really promising game so far. Content is good, and I hope the dev continues to work on it because I've had a blast so far!

I love this game. It's great for screwing around with friends and causing eternal suffering.
