Discovered this game two days ago and today DM'd a first battle using a forest landscape. The look of excitement on the face of my player when the map loaded said it all! We also found the initiative function very useful for keeping easy track of each combatant's turn and location on the board. I salivated over the maps produced by other DM's which can be imported for ready use! Even if you can't be bothered to make your own maps you could import incredible scenes to play in. Suggestion - I would like an option to 'knock over' a dead character rather than remove them from the board or, even better, turn them into a corpse so that they realistically remain an obstacle taking up space in the fight. As others have said, a function to customise heroes would be very cool. Best cash I have spent on RPG resources, injecting new life into our campaign. I actually own a ton of miniatures and scenery but this is so much easier and - tbh - it looks better.

More than just a game, The Banner Saga is a work of art. From the outset I found myself approaching this game in a different way. Even if my adventure ended in defeat, it was going to be a great experience trying to survive as long as possible with warriors (and ethics) intact! A great game with a brain and a heart, for players equipped with the same.

In the hunt for quality RPG's I'll try most anything... and this old school game has the depth, imagination and customisation that I've been dreaming about in an RPG. It may look simple but there are many secrets to discover, roaming places to explore, choices to make and very wide character ability choices to strategise. The story emplors many fantasy tropes but is written with a knowing wit. Very, very pleased with this game. This is as close to playing old school D&D on a PC as you can get!

I bought this on the strength of the reviews, despite some apprehension about the graphics. Other role-players were right; this is a really engaging RPG with a great campaign setting, free roaming environment, good mechanics and addictive battles. I was also able to overide the character portraits in the directory with some fantasy art I liked to make the characters I wanted. I'm playing on hard difficultly which feels about right. Anyway got to get back to my campaign to bring justice to Avernum...!
