This will be a spoiler free review recommendation summary (though I may reference and drop hints at things)

I've played the original Nier and all the Drakengard games, and I’ve spent a few hours reading up on all the lore and novellas. Yoko Taro games always have the most fascinating stories and I was surprised at how detailed the actual lore is to everything he writes. Nier: Automata is no exception to this for many reasons which I will explain; I actually like Automata even more than original Nier.

STORY: For anyone who’s played the original Nier, alarm bells will most likely go off when they read the synopsis of Automata; I and a friend had a lot of discussions speculating stuff and theorizing. I will say there are references back to the original Nier but I won’t say how but it’s really amazing. I really liked all of the futuristic stuff like the Drone Pods, the Flight units; the futuristic aesthetic felt fresh and actually molded well and was done correctly. The game takes old world stuff but also mashes futuristic aesthetic together into a pseudo combination and it’s really interesting. Ingame Lore is presented via archives, old world information, weapon origins (brought back from Drakengard 3) and so on. Also since this is a Yoko Taro game the game covers a lot of deep complex topics in interesting ways.

CHARACTERS: While I did like 2B, 9S, and A2 the characters from original Nier were more detailed and fleshed out in my opinion. It was sort of hard to relate to the androids except maybe 9S; 9S had the most personality in my opinion. Some of the characters also had an Anime-ish archetype which isn’t a bad thing except for "two certain characters" being anti-climactic to where they could have been more than what they were presented. There are also some other anime esque tropes present too. I do like Akihiko Yoshida’s character designs though.

GAMEPLAY: Platinum Games teaming up with Yoko Taro was the best thing that could have happened. Controls are easy to get used to and the animations for running, jumping, attacking, and dodging are fluent and smooth. Compared to the original nier it’s a whole lot better by far. Pod controls are easy aiming and shooting as well as quick selection keys/buttons to use items, switch weapon sets, or switch pod programs. My favorite part about this game is how Yoko Taro mashed together different videogame genres into one; the intro alone made me feel like I was playing starfox and touhou/bullet hells. Main story is atleast 30+ hours or if you’re going to 100% the game via quests and other stuff it took me 61 hours.

GRAPHICS: The graphics are really good though some textures do look medium res; it’s not a big deal though. I have a GTX 1060 6GB and the game runs fine most of the time despite the optimization issues I’ve been seeing. There’s small 1-2 seconds of stuttering when going to different areas but not a lot to hinder performance or progression. 1080p looks upscaled, again due to this port.

MUSIC/SOUND DESIGN: Keiichi Okabe reprises his role from original Nier as composer for Nier Automata as well as other studio Monaca members. Okabe's music is amazing and its incredible how much he can change up his style every time. Emi Evans returns for vocal work, again flawless performance from both of them. J'Nique Nicole is also a new singer introduced for Automata, I liked her vocal work as well. The 8-Bit tracks were really neat too. Sound design for the sound effects was good as well, robotic voice sounds, explosions, sword slashes, mecha sounds etc. were all made well.

Overall ide highly recommend Automata, it was another amazing experience. I enjoyed it so much I just 100%ed the game and it was well worth it and well worth the price. If you’re going to get it just make sure you have a higher video card and try the FAR fix on the community it can help with some issues, though I really wish they would release a patch especially for others having issues.

This remastering is amazing. Im really impressed with what NightDive have done to the turok series. I played the first game and seeds of evil back in the day on N64; I would always rent the turok games from a now defunct video store.

The game feels so much better with PC controls. The binding changes, and specific mouse input / sensitivity vs the original version with the N64 controller and analog stick; it had some awkward controls imo. Now it basically feels like im playing a proper 90's fps. My favorite part is being able to switch back and forth between the N64 music and the PC version music (I prefer the N64 music but its nice you can switch between them) Being able to change the Graphics, Video, and Audio balance is really nice as well as the new engine the game is running on, it looks better than ever and it runs better framerate wise (i remember the huge amounts of fog and fps lag on the N64 version)

Im glad to see turok getting the attention it deserves, I personally feel its an underrated game series that deserved more attention, but i know its cherished by a longtime community. Another great job from NightDive.

There are some aspects to Farcry 2 that i actually like more than 3.

The gameplay of Farcry 2 is pretty much standard like an FPS would be albeit with some addons and differences. You are able to use a primary, a secondary, and melee weapon along with a special weapon including grenades and molotovs. It is a big open world and your main means of travel is by various types of vehicles. To add a bit of realism, guns will jam and explode after awhile of prolonged use.

Unlike its predecessor you can have buddies that protect you and help you on missions. You can pick which character you want to be, though it doesnt really change the outcome. Also unlike its predecessor the setting is completely different as it takes place in Africa and not on tropical islands out on the pacific ocean. While alot of people showed disdain for this setting change, i actually liked the setting and enviroment.

The story of Farcry 2 is gathered via information when you accept missions or when you find cassette tapes left behind by the games main Antagonist "The Jackal". Essentially the lore of this game is in the background and you have to research it and pay attention to understand whats going on.

Farcry 2 still holds up well in its Graphics Department for a game from 2008. The Dunia Engine makes use of fire elements burning the enviroments grass and trees, as well as showcasing a day and night cycle and weather effects not present in the previous game. As for the sound design the explosions, guns etc are all top notch while the voiceacting is pretty decent. A few music tracks caught my attention in this game; i really enjoy the calm music transition to the fast battle paced ones when a firefight is happening.

My only minor gripes with Farcry 2 are having to constantly get Malaria pills, and the long drives it kinda takes to get to some areas. Other that that i recommend playing Farcry 2.

Suda 51's latest/most recent game. I have mixed feelings about Killer is Dead. Judging from the games title when i saw trailers of it i thought it was going to be a sequel to Killer 7 but what we got was something completely different.

The story is essentially cryptic like Killer 7 albeit, without the charm Killer 7 had. It's very hard to follow and alot of things feel thrown in with no explanation. So if your hoping to understand the story your going to be lost. The basic jist is you play as Mondo Zappa, a 35 year old American assassin who travels the globe executing other assassins.

The gameplay of Killer is Dead focuses on a combination of things. It is hack n slash (much like MGR) but also uses a secondary shooting function via Mondo's cybernetic arm. You play the game from a third person point of view in both using a sword or using the gun portion of your cybernetic arm. The gameplay itself is actually really fluent and stylish. As for the graphics, it follows in its NMH and K7 predecessors, utilizing a cel shading style in unison with the Unreal Engine. Though i do enjoy the style alot, i would have liked to see another approach or an optimization upon the style Suda did with cel shading.

I have mixed views on the music of the game. There are some tracks that standout (main menu music) while alot of the others are not really that memorable. It's kind of dissapointing given Akira Yamaoka composed for Killer is Dead, but im going to assume its not really his fault. Akira was most likely given specific directions on where to take the music. I will say the sound effects and voice acting are top notch though; the voice acting having some familiar english voice actors.

If you enjoy hack n slash games like Metal Gear Rising Revengeance or any other in the general, you will like Killer is Dead. If your looking for an engaging story to follow your most likely not going to find it here as its very cryptic.

The second GTA game i played back in the day. Vice City came out on the PC in 2003, i picked it up and played it somewhere around 2005 to 2007. Quite possibly my favorite GTA of all time. Im a sucker for anything 80's so that further heightened the experience of this game. If you haven't played this one i would highly recommened playing it.

The story is more intereresting than GTA 3 imo; it takes alot of cues from 80's films, and television. The aesthetics of the world really work in its favor and really makes you feel like your in the 80's. The various car designs, the npcs, and even the many easteregg references (Scarface mansion, Miami Vice music and cops) really addon to it.

The gameplay is still the same from its predecessor. You have the ability to jump, run, sprint and crouch like GTA 3. There are new weapons in this GTA; compared to GTA3 having one set of weapons, GTA Vice City has atleast 4 sets of weapons from small to heavy.

For the music you have yet again a really well picked soundtrack. You have a combination of 80's hip hop to Rock, to Newwave and Synthpop. The sound effects were well made for its time. As for the voice acting you have a couple of celebrities (Ray Liotta as Tommy Vercetti) Dennis Hopper, Burt Reynolds, Gary busey etc essentially a top notch performance and an interesting choice to have them voice the characters given their backgrounds.

All in all, its well worth the money and its another great GTA experience.

The very first GTA game i played back in the day. Blew my mind that a game existed like this as early as 2001; the amount of attention to detail whether it be cars, npcs, or the fact that its a very open world amazed me. For anyone that hasn't played it yet, i highly recommend you do.

Story: You play as Claude, a mute protagonist of the game. The story of GTA 3 tends to branch itself out with the various interesting characters you meet. I didnt really pay attention to the story too much until GTA IV but i can tell you that 3 does deliver some interesting story telling.

Gameplay: The gameplay is in Thirdperson, but you can switch to first person while using certain weapons. You are able to run, sprint, jump and crouch. There are many cars to drive as well as boats and flyable vehicles.

Music/SFX/Voiceacting: The music to GTA 3 is usually heard via the radio, Rockstar knows how to pick out good songs; its on par with the music selection for Tony Hawk Pro Skater games. The sound effects are also really well made. The voiceacting is pretty good for its time as well.

Very addicting. I recommend playing with friends. The Music and Will Stampers narration during cutscenes are my two favorite things about this game. Glad to see Behemoth is still at it.

I did not expect an expansion like this for Farcry 3. Since i have i huge love for everything 80's this was definitely a buy for me. The 80's tropes and references that makeup this game are hilarious. When i found out Powerglove did an amazing 80's Retrowave style soundtrack to this game i just had to look into it as well.

Starbound is the successor to Terraira in a sense. Its got really nice pixelart and lots of cool weapons and gadgets. The worlds are really nice as well and i like how things are randomly generated. Races and customization are a plus combined with the fact you can import .abc files to play music like midi's. The game's music also feels really nice and in some aspects the game also has a 3d esque function.
