I would suggest Gray Zone Warfare for players who enjoy FPS but also enjoy overcoming the difficulty of MilSim gameplay.

Pro:
  • MilSim/Tactical shooter backbone but with less frustrating and rage inducing mechanics
  • Arcade-y implementation of certain IRL mechanics to enhance gameplay
  • Balance of playability vs. realism
  • Firearm feels and sounds great
  • AI pathing and movement makes more sense and is intuitive
  • Much. much more enjoyable tasks/quests
  • Over 100 tasks already in the game
  • Community is very tight-knit and helpful (minus a few bad actors)

Con:
  • Lack of diversity of weapons you would see in traditional shooters, not yet implemented or added
  • Server instability during peak hours, especially in certain geographic locations
  • Sever disconnect/crash may lead to loss of currently equipped gear
  • AI combat response not tuned perfectly according to zone and context and is inconsistent (Locals gunning you down 200m away versus Military agents fumbling around and shooting like a Stormtrooper)
  • Not yet implemented features and mechanics such as storage boxes for inventory management
  • Some higher level tasks are key-locked requiring you to get lucky or find someone with the key already
  • The current implementation of Helicopter travel and the lack of a queue system
  • Lack of foresight in PVP servers with how traveling works I.E. LZ camping

Realism vs playability:
A comparison I often see if between GZW and Tarkov. I would categorize Tarkov as a much more hardcore MilSim and Tactical Shooter that prioritizes "realism" over playability while GZW has the MilSim and Tactical Shooter DNA but it balances between "realism" and playability. An example is the weapon degradation system in Tarkov affecting the usage, chambering, and reliability of your firearm. In concept this is an amazing idea but in production, it only hampers your gameplay by introducing another time-sink in between missions/raids where you have to clean, disassemble your firearm, sell firearms that are below 90% durability, etc. GWZ has the backbone of a realistic tactical shooter game but it makes certain aspects of gameplay more "arcade-y" so it's less frustrating, easier to approach, and more fun. This balance between realism and playability makes GZW much more enjoyable for both avid gamers and casual gamers.

If you're okay with playing a game that's still quite fresh and raw but has over 100 hours of gameplay, I would highly recommend this game. If you find constant injection of new mechanics, firearms, areas, then I would recommend this game to you. If you're a Tarkov or MilSim gamer but doesn't feel the drive to be a hardcore andy anymore, this game will give you the same excitement without the frustration.

This is an Early Access game and I find it much more exciting as things are constantly changing and I'm constantly discovering new information/material about this game! I dislike games where quedsts, optimizations, metas are already established and enforced by players and there is a lack of discovery and mystery.
