Plant Crafter is a memorable blend of creativity and discovery to be enjoyed alone or with friends. (I've played through solo and co-op).

As you explore the world from a first-person perspective, the narrative unfolds, revealing more of the world's mysteries with each note that you discover. This element of discovery keeps you engaged and encourages you to investigate further.

The only dangers are a lack of food, water and oxygen (and a little fall damage!) There is no combat.

Visually and thematically, the game is a journey of transformation. You begin with a stark, lifeless world; however, as you terraform by cultivating plants, heating the world, and pressurising the atmosphere, the environment gradually blossoms into a lush, vibrant and busy paradise. The contrast between the initial desolation and the later beauty is striking. It's also just really cool to watch your frogs, butterflies, and other odd animals chill out in the world you made for them.

Building your base is fun, similar to Subnautica, but without the stability mechanic, so you can really make some wild structures. If you make a mistake, you get a full refund of materials so you can design and redesign to your heart's content.

Just when crafting/collecting resources starts to get a little tedious in the mid-game, you discover ways to automate the process, and it's super fun to scale up from your initial humble gardens to vast industrial operations. Setting up a fully functional supply chain is fun, satisfying, and more straightforward than you think it would be.

I really recommend this game. It's a chill game to hang out with friends and is equally chill solo too.

V Rising is an absolute gem if you love survival games, tight and rewarding combat mechanics, constantly unlocking new spells and abilities, and, of course, the vampire theme! I played through the PvE content only - did not play PvP at all.

There are a vast array of bosses to hunt down and defeat, each presenting a unique challenge. Each boss is visually stunning and has distinctive abilities. The bosses serve as stepping stones in your journey to progress. Each victory unlocks something new, be it a spell, weapon ability, resource, or something for your castle, ensuring you always feel a sense of progression.

The atmosphere in V Rising perfectly captures the Gothic, eerie world of vampires, immersing you in dense forests, lively towns, creepy swamps, or simply brooding in a castle of your own design. Vampire themes and mythology are woven throughout every aspect of the game.

I played V Rising solo PvE in early access for about 50 hours, and it was awesome, but playing PvE co-op with friends enhances every aspect of the game, turning each boss battle into a shared triumph. It's one of those games where the more friends you have, the better the experience becomes.

The day/night cycle is brilliantly done. It captures the classic vampire struggle against the sun in a way that isn't overly punishing but is lore-perfect, as daytime adds an extra layer of danger, forcing you to think strategically about when to venture out.

The combat mechanics in V Rising are its standout feature. With a diverse range of spells and weapon skills to experiment with, no two players will approach battles the same way. In PvE, almost any build is viable, giving you the freedom to play the game your way and makes every win feel satisfying.

Building your own vampire castle is a major highlight of V Rising. The extensive customisation options allow you to easily create a castle that reflects your style, whether you prefer a menacing fortress or an elegant look. It's incredibly satisfying to see your home evolve from a simple shelter with no protection from the sun into a sprawling, comfortable stronghold filled with gothic architecture and all the personalised touches you can imagine.

Setting up a private server gives you so many options, so whether you're looking for a gritty hardcore survival challenge or want to focus on the combat by increasing resource yield, you can tailor the gameplay to your liking.

It's hard to find something wrong with this game. I experienced frustration with the RNG nature of the end-game grind, i.e., getting a good supply of perfect blood quality and finding legendary weapons. Secondly, The final boss has a really steep difficulty curve—I would estimate that I lost to the final boss about 30+ times before learning all the patterns and mechanics well enough to beat it.

Overall, V Rising is a fantastic game that delivers on the vampire fantasy in a way that no other media has done for me before.

Highly recommended.

I’m confident that this is the most fantastic and flexible multiplayer RPG I’ve ever played.

The storytelling is so well done—very cinematic. The voice acting is excellent, and the plot continually thickens, providing the impetus to keep exploring and discovering. There is an almost endless variety of quests and I would recommend taking your time rather than speeding through the main quests.

There is a thrill every time you explore a new dungeon or crypt and find some new NPCs to help (or hinder). Generally, there are so many ways for you to tackle each encounter, and you are rewarded well for creativity.

The player freedom in this well-crafted sandbox is downright nuts, I can’t count how many times someone in the party would say, “I wonder if I can do XYZ” and 90% of the time, this would lead to hilarious results, some of which would wipe the party and require a reload and others where we patted ourselves on the back for the sheer audacity!

The UI and combat take a little getting used to at first, but once you’re confident, you realise how well they're designed and how they give you all the tools you need to do stupid, smart, and wacky things that create some very memorable emergent storytelling moments.

Each of the three Acts is distinctive visually and in tone – with Act 2 being my favourite.
On a second play-through, this time with my Daughter, and she’s completely obsessed and its absolutely fascinating to see the outcomes of her conversation choices and major decisions which differed significantly from the choices my group made during our original play-through.

Big Recommend.

June 2024: 96 hrs played so far, very near the end game at the time of this review.

It's genuinely hard to pin down what this game is—not a bad thing! It’s a mix of genres: Valheim-style RPG survival, Breath of the Wild-style exploration, Tomb Raider platform puzzles, 3rd person-action platformer… All of which make for a very pleasing experience.

The gameplay loop offers a versatile balance of activities. Whether you're in the mood for questing, building, farming, or crafting, this game has something to offer, allowing you to switch between activities based on your current mood.

The character skill tree (web?) is varied and fantastic to explore – respeccing your character is super-cheap so you’re encouraged to experiment with different skills and playstyles.

Biomes are varied, and there is a lot to explore. Flying around on a glider above and among the trees is an absolute delight. Aside from where you choose to build, the map is static – so on the upside, you can see the developers have crafted some really nice dungeons and platform/puzzles; the downside is the map is static, so there may be less replay value. Saying that, there is around a hundred hours of content if you are looking to get most of the achievements – more if you like to spend your time constructing castles, tree houses, hobbit holes or whatever you can imagine in the fantastic building systems.

However, enemy types tend to repeat a little too often across biomes. Once you’ve learned their attack patterns and counters, the game can get a bit easy. The bosses are generally super fun, as are the hallowed halls dungeons. The difficulty spike as an individual player can be a bit jarring – yet with a party of three, it’s a bit too easy, so some more refined scaling or server difficulty options would be nice.

All in all, my friends and I enjoyed our time in Enshrouded. I would definitely recommend this game in its current state, and I look forward to returning once it reaches its final release.

I really enjoyed this trip down memory lane - its been a few years since I played the original so the puzzles all felt challenging and new.

RTX lighting and reflections looked awesome, although the FPS did take a nose-dive. With a few tweaks it was totally playable.

The game-play itself still holds up after all these years!

Spirtfarer is a quirky management game; you can build a boat, explore, farm, mine, fish, harvest, cook, and generally craft while befriending recently deceased spirits and caring for them before releasing them into the afterlife.

While you care for them, you will learn the various spirits' engaging and often poignant backstories. You'll find that you relate to and like some characters and not others.

It's generally a chill and relaxing adventure where you can't make mistakes, and the controls are super easy to learn.

I played this in a local co-op with my 10yr old daughter despite 'death' being the game's primary theme. However, 'death' is treated so thoughtfully and respectfully that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend playing with kids younger than the official rating of 'teens' or '12 and up' (depending on your region).

This game is one of the more unique bits of media I've even consumed.

It's more Subnautica - not a bad thing at all! There are many familiar mechanics and a few interesting innovations. Underwater biomes are all beautiful, busy, and wonderful to explore.

The core gameplay that made Subnautica great (i.e. uncovering the lore/mystery/narrative through exploration and a bit of base-building) is still there, albeit on a smaller map with some locations above the water on land/ice.

The above-water sections were not as fun; I think this is because you're losing verticality. Being stuck on the horizontal plane was a bit of a bummer compared to the full 6 degrees of movement you have underwater.

The defence module for the Seatruck seemed a bit overpowered - I think acquiring this component should be limited to the very late game.

Finally, (and possibly related to the Seatruck defence module), the stakes did not seem as high as in the first game; there wasn't the same epic scale and level of fear in the late-game from biomes like the 'lava lakes' and 'lost' river'.

It's certainly not a bad game - if you loved Subnautica, you'd like this game. I would play another Subnautica game.

This is a real-time tactical stealth game set in the 1870s USA and Mexico. The narrative follows the origin story of the main protagonist, Cooper, in a classic tale of revenge.

You control a colourful gang of characters with distinct personalities, tools, and abilities. This variation gives you a multitude of ways to complete each mission.

You can use 'Shadow mode' to pause, then plan a sequence of actions for all of your characters before executing the plan (and executing all the enemies at the same time) - super satisfying!).

There is lots of replayability; you could do a no-kill run or try to speedrun it. Still, I think the game is at its best when you fully utilise all the fun tools and abilities on offer - at least for the first play-through.

Do you have a fear of the ocean? Do you want one?

Pros:
Some genuinely great jump-scares
Banging soundtrack
Fantastic graphics and lighting
A good mystery to uncover
Fun base-building
Cool vehicles to pilot
Excellent world-building

♥♥♥♥:
A little bit of janky-ness here and there but ultimately it doesn't distract too much from the fun.

Conclusion:
A survival game experience unlike anything else I've played - I can see why this game has so many positive reviews

I spent a lot of time trying to like this game. Despite its strong characters, great visuals, excellent audio design, the gameplay wasn't fun enough for me to keep going. The range of enemy types doesn't expand much, and the puzzles aren't challenging enough to give a sense of achievement.

The tone is a little off, for example, the main character is initially haunted by having to kill for the first time, but an hour later, you're dropping enemies like flies, the lower stakes hurt the narrative and tone.

I quit at about 5hrs so your millage may vary.
