After holding off on playing this for a while, I decided to give it a spin. I was able to complete the story in a couple of sessions simply because it was so good (it is about 10 hours in length). I stuck around and played a bit of the free-roam mode as well because the city looks amazing and there is a lot of appeal in driving around looking for the secret cars and collectables.

This is one of the best remakes I have ever played, having played the original in 2002 on the PS2, I dreaded certain aspects, but they have smoothed everything that was rough in the original out nicely, modernising aspects and overall making it a better experience.

Visuals are amazing considering what they did with the original source material.
Voice acting is superb, a huge step up from the original.
Story is a gripping crime drama with lots of twists, turns, and most importantly, believable character development. The time period is also a unique aspect of the game/setting/story being set in the 1930s which adds a nice spin to character motivation and plot devices that you don't really get in modern settings (think prohibition, the threat of world war 2, and the effects of the great depression).
Longevity beyond the phenomenal story might struggle a little bit if you don't appreciate the dense well crafted city map, but if you do, it is a lot of fun to go hunting for collectables and unique cars in free-roam. You can also try to beat the game on the 'Classic' difficulty which mimics the high difficulty of the original PS2 game (including the racing mission which is very tough).

I highly recommend giving this game a go.

First thing: DO NOT BUY THE STARTER EDITION. It may be tempting given the price point, but you are so much better off if you just shell out the extra money now. You will be locked into a huge grind with the Starter Edition that simply isn't worth it. Unless you love to play recruit, then go for it.

Review/My Experience:
I purchased R6 during a Steam sale but was sceptical that I would find any enjoyment with it. I watched a couple of YouTube videos about the game with lots of 'in jokes' and references I didn't understand, but decided it was time to give it a shot.

I went through some single player situations and T-hunt and was promptly slaughtered by the AI. Needless to say, I was largely unimpressed at this point.

I started my first real game and was either killed instantly or sat on the objective staring into doorways until the round ended or I was murdered from an angle that I had no idea existed. This is likely to be most people's introduction to multiplayer in Siege and although it is ridiculously frustrating at first, you end up craving a good back and forth gunfight where outsmarting your enemy is the only way you will win.

At 266 hours in the game at the time of writing, I am by no means 'good' at the game, but with every match played and with more map knowledge gained, you can increase your chances of wining with strategy and knowledge which is the feeling of personal progression a lot of competitive games lack these days.

The game itself is not quite as polished as it should be, but it is by no means as bad as the community makes it out to be. There are some bugs you will notice for sure, but in my experience these have been few and far between.

Graphics are really nice on ultra and the hi-res texture pack adds some fantastic detailing to the game world. If your computer can run it, I definitely recommend it.

Constantly in development, there is a new season every 3 or so months that includes patches, a free map for everyone and new operators that can be purchased with money, or can be picked up for earned in-game credits if you don't want to spend real money (the rate at which you earn this in-game currency is also very reasonable). The micro-transactions in Siege are used to by gun skins and/or uniforms for operators and are cosmetic only, most skins can also be purchased for the earned currency as well, which is refreshing.

I can wholeheartedly recommend this game to any FPS fan that is looking for a new competitive shooter that has a whole lot of originality and personality. It may take a while until you get good at the game, but it is ultimately a rewarding experience.

Steep learning curve and frustrations to be had with Rocket League, but that is part of the fun. There is truly no other game like this.

Although there are a fair few DLC options to choose from and a loot box system, the rewards are all cosmetic.

Would recommend to anyone looking for a new experience.
