My first exposure to this game was when it was released as a small demo. Back then, I was way too braindead to figure out the gameplay of an average survival horror game, so my primitive ass thought it sucked. Boy was I wrong.

Now, a few years later, a video about Signalis popped up in my YouTube feed by PowerPak I believe it was. I watched it for a bit and thought to myself "Damn, this ♥♥♥♥'s deep".

So, on the next sale, for a whopping 14€, I bought Signalis.

And damn, what a masterpiece. The entire story and plot is deeply schizophrenic and convoluted, but so is any other good story, so that's fine. It's also deeply philosophical in how it handles love, inevitability, determinism/fate, choice and suffering. I won't go too into detail, to not spoil anyone, but it's very well written in my opinion.

To add to that, the gameplay is great once you start using your brain. The puzzles were very fun to figure out and the combat felt very nice with how aiming, shoving and the stun rods (saved my ass many times) were handled.

The music is another thing. The original compositions are beautiful and fit the emotional backdrop perfectly. Nothing more to say, really.

I liked it. It's not as groundbreaking as the trilogy of course, but it's pretty alright.
It didn't make me feel the emotions that the trilogy made me feel, but idk I still think the story is alright.

It had several decisions which seemed very relevant, but didn't matter for the game's ending. I think those might've been fleshed out in later games. Just like how some ME1 decisions only bit you in the ass in ME3. But who knows. I sure don't.

And even if you are already sure that you hate the story with a burning passion, then the gameplay is pretty good for the eight whole euros you have to pay when the game is on sale. Just buy it and have something to shoot ♥♥♥♥ in while listening to music idk. The whole selecting powers based on what you currently think works best in your situation while sprinting and jump-jetting all over the place was very fun.

The whole gameplay loop feels like any other game from right around 2016 though. You have your strike teams, several open world maps and your resource collecting and weapon and armor researching. Aka this and MGS:V are largely the same game but in a different setting, really. If you're alright with one, you'll be fine with the other probably.

A masterpiece. Great story, great characters, great everything. If you are reading this review in a year or two I might've amassed 2k hours lol. I'm already itching to replay it with mods.

Just a shame that it needs the EA app. It needs to have an internet connection at all times despite being a singleplayer game. Also needs a DirectInput controller plugged in to launch through Proton for some reason. Doesn't make much sense to me, but hey when you've got one of these plugged in it works well enough.

For Linux users a pretty good experience playability-wise and Windows users have no excuse not to buy this version of the game when it's on sale for 8€.

> build an unplayable economy (for mortals who don't ♥♥♥♥ money)
> justify it with 12 year olds and muh algorithms
> be gaijin
Nah, this ain't it chief.

If you're gonna invest money into virtual vehicles, invest in DCS modules or get Falcon BMS or IL2 or whatever. Trust me, they're better choices.
