Life is Strange 2 tries and fails to capture what made the original special. It is an inferior successor to what was what I consider an indie masterpiece, something one of a kind that'll probably never really happen again in the same way. With that I understood that this game would probably never be as good for me and that was okay, you can make your "Citizen Kane" and then make your "Touch of Evil," there's nothing wrong with that. Sadly this game couldn't do that at all and its existence is an insult to the original as it just can't seem to mimic the original no matter how hard it tries.

Life is Strange always had something to say whether you agreed or disagreed but it was never the focal point of the game, in the end it was there to tell you a story occasionally inserting some sort of statement on the world. Life is Strange 2 however feels like that's all it's meant to be, which could be fine it it was really good at it but it's not. It can't choose what hot topic it wants to touch on whether it be police violence, racism, weed legalization, or nomads. It's a jumble of messages that aren't even elaborated on and simply glossed through to reach its next talking point. They have this at the cost of the story, they most often than not feel sudden and out of place disrupting the plot.

As far as the story goes, so far it has no structure. Every episode feels like a completely different story that makes me sad as to why they aren't. Honestly if they just focused on one of them or made an anthology this could work but instead they opted to just frankenstein together, so far, three different stories into one. There is no flow and I'm not sure how to describe it, you can't be running away with your brother, living with your grandparents, then being hobos that quickly and feel fleshed out. They just keep making things happen, that's it it's just a bunch of things. I can't even feel for the character since I feel like every episode they're completely different people lacking gradual character growth, we'll just skip forward in time or something so that we don't get to really see how we got somewhere. We never see them travel with the nomad group and find work or any of that, we're simply told it happened and that these characters are friends now and it feels like we're missing important parts.

On a technical end for the most part everything does look fine and I'll give them that. I wouldn't say it looks amazing, like I feel like the games have looked better but I'm not going to say it looks bad either. The environments are pretty and interesting even if I feel sometimes the character models lacked something previous games had. On a negative note I feel the game is much less visually stimulating than its predecessor, likely because they've taken out how it tied in with cameras by using it less. The issue is its cinematic quality was part of what made the game amazing, the lighting, movement, and angles are what gave it life and made it stand out. Other studios had done somewhat similar things before but not in a way that made me feel like there was somebody behind the screen with a camera and I miss that.

Overall I wouldn't recommend this game and the only reason I'm still playing is because I payed for it. This games redeeming qualities are few and far in between and I wouldn't even buy it on sale. The best I've gotten out of this is a few nice screenshots and frankly that's depressing since this could've been much better than it was.

Great game! Can't get any better than a game about growing up through simply talking!

I do have a bone to pick with my ending. So I told Emily that I may not want to settle down right after college and I told Evalyn I wanted to settle down at some point. I genuinely wasn't lying to either. I, no and possibly in real life, want to maybe explore a bit but eventually settle down at some point. It kinda ticked me off she took that as lying and I couldn't say that what I just said back in some way. I really did like her in the game, and the fact that I got a bad ending because of that really made me sad, and not in the good way.

How dare you not devote your life to this game or make it the bane of your existance! How dare you just think its...fine.

This is some of the most fun I've had in awhile! I had to restart Steam once but overall I haven't had any major problems! Of course while I liked the game I understand you not wanting to buy it since I know some peoples games have crashed, were unable to start, etc. Its 60 bucks and theres a chance of it not working so I'd be careful...

Free. Thats all you need to know. Just try it and see how you feel, you got nothing but a bit of time to lose.
