Its starting to die and performance is quite unoptimized

WOW This game is definitely what I've been waiting for the last 2 years its been on my wishlist before release. Its extremely immersive, just the right amount of micro, brings a fresh type of gameplay that I havnt had in other games before, and The learning and difficulty curve is firm but fair. And obviously the play anywhere in the world gimmick goes real hard.

BUT then it becomes glaringly obvious that the game is unfinished at about the day 50 mark (A solid 24 hours of gameplay). Optimization issues manifest, the missions stop coming just as they start getting good and start following a storyline, then there's nothing to do other than expand defenses once all the buildings you need are in place and the small tech tree has been researched. And even then theres a limit as the play area seems large at first, but it becomes noticeably restricting as you expand. Furthermore, there's a solid amount of missing content, poor QOL, and numerous bugs as one would expect for an early release game. Most of these are not game breaking. However, some will definitely make you go .. *sigh* *opens command console*

Overall I have high hopes and expectations for this game as it gets worked on, as it is currently very enjoyable for early-mid game. However I would not buy it at full price in its current state.

Got it because of the alleged similarity to COH, I can kinda see the resemblance. But It just seems unfinished and like there was a lot of missed opportunities, relative to the price that was paid. Refunded.

I mean, it can only get better from here.. Right?

The complexity of the building and builds is awesome and is the main feature of this game that makes it worth it.

But its just such a barren game, you basically have to use cheats to do anything.

Furthermore the game has taken a more militaristic approach lately, yet the destruction is so immersion breaking. A shell or missile can rip right through your ship and destroy all your essential systems, yet no hole is ripped through your hull. Just a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ texture painted over damaged blocks.

Also, control is horrible, using on/off keys to steer or pitch has always been bad in games, but I hooked up my flight joystick and it turns out the flight model is bung as well, so much so that using a joystick is honestly worse than keys.

Pretty solid with some quite gritty moments, with every graphics setting maxed out its quite a nice looking game. Took 40 hours to beat it doing probably a third of the optional stuff. Sucks they take away your main character at the end though.

TLDR: Great game, worth playing, amazing graphics, crap sound, leaves you dissatisfied right when you get into it, nobody cares about Anna.

Don't get me wrong, this negative review isn't saying this isn't an amazing game. The ray tracing+graphics+scenery are beautiful and/or actually quite gory and messed up (which I like), the characters are interesting, the plot runs deep, there's many play styles, the combat has some truly visceral moments, and the apocalyptic atmosphere was captured better than any other game I've played before. However there's a few key elements that completely ruined it for me.

First and foremost, whoever was in charge of the sound design really ♥♥♥♥ the bed, some samples are of extremely poor quality, there's a lot of repeat dialogue, characters talking over eachother about different topics, and other small details that ruin immersion including poor mixing, random crap, and character's tone not at all matching the situation. That being said, guns among other things sound great, not all of the sound is bad.

Second, the game seems REALLY short and far from open world. There's only roughly 5 areas you'll get to play in, and only two are "open world" and take longer than an hour to beat, at least if you take the time to explore everything, if you only go mission to mission I'm sure it would take far less. The other areas are brief and linear, and in the longest of them you technically aren't even allowed to kill anyone, its just a bunch of sneaking around. And on the topic of open world, the maps are quite small and empty, only about 6-8 major places to visit.

I digress, after the 2nd open world area and assuming you've explored everything to have most of the equipment unlocked, you finally say to yourself "Ahhh okay I think I've got the hang of this and I cant wait to try all this equipment and use my now refined play style" but that moment never comes. Right when it feels like the game should kick into high gear, it ends. And not a good ending either. To give credit, the ending I got actually struck an emotional chord with me. But not before 40 minutes of watching random hallucinations which cause damage for no reason, purple leeches ejaculating on me, and going through rooms with 100 gorillas walking around in them. Before being forced to watch a further 20 minutes of lame cutscenes. Which, yanno, wouldn't be so bad if I wasn't expecting more open world chaos.

Finally, we arrive at Anna. My god. I could not give 3 flying ♥♥♥♥♥ about the relationship between the main character and her. Yet the game persists in shaving their relationship down your throat. I am here to kill ♥♥♥♥ and kill ♥♥♥♥ only, not to watch cutscenes of her staring at you or complaining about something, or ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ up the plot. Perhaps if she helped in combat more than just the first scene it wouldn't be so bad, but no. And ultimately, it is her stupidity that causes the game to end so abruptly.

Anyway those are my 3 major problems with the game, the rest is quite well done and has plenty of attention to detail, and even some humor.. Dark humor lel.

Words cannot describe the greatness of this game. Would recommend a dedicated hard drive for it though lol.

However, Arma 4 better have 'AI' that actually has the 'I'. Also multiplayer is trash, you basically have to have friends in order to utilize it.

As a COH player, I just simply can't get into this. Its a decent game, but if youre gunna rip off COH mechanics, at least do it well. Unit range, damage, targeting, pathfinding, and more just feel off.

It's a little aged, but still a true epic and a must have for 40k fans
