Early Access Review
Really cool game, some QOL issues but it's very solid. Definitely worth the price, just waiting on more content. More troops, more enemies, more buildings, it needs it all. As is, it's roughly a 20 hour experience.

Early Access Review
The game has potential, but it shouldn't have been released into Early Access yet.

Early game is fairly polished and pretty good. Once you get to mid-game the balance is horrible.

The AI is claiming territory left and right while I've barely built my manor. Mid-game revenue from the Manor is too low. Influence gain mid-game is too low. (no change as of 5.10.2024, although I have noticed it does not matter, since why would I want any territory anyways with the broken level bad expansion system)

I am constantly struggling with food because the farm mechanics aren't scalable. The 3 year crop rotation makes little sense as it is right now, I wish I had a 4 year rotation to better manage the farms. Big farms are terrible, since the AI does the entire farming process in 4 stages which only makes sense with smaller farms. My villagers are not able to tend to the big farm fast enough for it to make sense, they should plow and sow at the same time as well as harvest and store at the same time, splitting the work evenly or giving me options to split the work. The plow upgrade for farming is nonsensical as it is actually way slower using the 1 ox than with the farmers. I would like the ability to use multiple oxen and assign multiple to my farm. Speaking of which waiting 30 days to buy an ox is annoying and doesn't add to the gameplay, if I have to wait let me at least queue them so I don't have to do it manually every 30 days. (as of 5.10.2024 you at least can queue oxen and horses)

Combat is underwhelming, firstly it has quality of life issues. Rallying troops has to be done 1 by 1, I wish I could rally all at once. When selecting multiple troops and giving them an order to move without holding down RMB makes them behave weirdly and move to random places. Then again the balance, archers do nothing right now so you only have foot troops to work with, which is boring. (no change as of 5.10.2024, only archers buffed)

Other quality of life issues which are very apparent:
- There is no way to set production limits, meaning I end up with a thousand+ weapons (as of 5.10.2024 production limits are there but not for base supply buildings)
- I never have planks because of said production limit issues (as of 5.10.2024 not an issue)
- Logistics are just weird in general, oxen should be able to carry more at once (still a thing, a bit better as of 5.10.2024)
- There is no way to manage markets, meaning all villagers always set up stalls at the first one (no change as of 5.10.2024)
- Zoning for woodcutters/foresters is not existent, you only get the weird limit working zone option which does not work properly (no change as of 5.10.2024)
- assigning farmers to fields is not possible (as of 5.10.2024 added this as an issue)
- When raiders destroy a building you cannot tell, there is no fix all button (didn't manage to get any building destroyed in my latest playthrough 5.10.2024)
- I should be able to place buildings even when I don't have enough resources when I am producing said resource (related to the plank issue) (no change as of 5.10.2024)
- I couldn't find a way to hide trees to see troops below them or check fertility in a forest (no change as of 5.10.2024)
- Trading between my own towns is not viable, I should be able to do it at a larger scale easier (no change as of 5.10.2024, generally this feature should just be scrapped and your settlement instead expanded, it makes no sense to micromanage towns without a colony system)
- No way to auto upgrade or select multiple burgage plots to upgrade, doing it 1 by 1 is tedious (no change as of 5.10.2024)
- The development point system is a mess (added as of 5.10.2024, generally all towns should share development points, it makes gameplay horrible)

Overall this is a nice tech demo, I wouldn't say it's early access yet which is why I do not recommend it in it's current state. I think in a year or 2 this will be a great game, but it isn't there yet. It's not balanced whatsoever and lacks a ton of content. The things that people praised so much made me go "neat!" and then the novelty wore off after about 10 minutes. Ultimately the quality of life issues, paired with the boring late game made me close the game finally. (update as of 05.10.2024, I have no hope left for this game after seeing the "updates")

Edit: I don't know why people think that the game was too difficult or something to me. I actually think it was quite easy, since once you have things "set up" you don't really need to do anything anymore. The problems are QOL, lack of a full gameplay loop, lack of balance, long idle wait times, lack of fun quite honestly. To me it felt like the dev hasn't played their own game from start to finish in a long while or has their own playstyle based around how they designed the systems.

P.S. Yes I saw that you can rally your troops by holding down control, I tried that, must have run into a bug. Tried shift, ctrl and alt as that is what I assumed it would be. Not like it makes much of a difference, since it doesn't tell u anywhere about this feature. Yes I know u can halt production, but I was selling my weapons, I don't want to halt production, I want to limit it.

Edit2: Yes, I am aware you can cheese food with vegetable gardens. Hell you can abuse trade and never plant a single crop by just placing vegetable gardens as those 2 are OP. That is not a solution, that is a problem with the game in the other direction. Take the trade development points and you win. (as of 05.10.2024 seems somewhat fixed)

UPDATE: 05.10.2024 I've tried it again. Updated the review above since some elements were half fixed, still not recommended. The content added is minor since release, bug fixes also seem minor. The more I play, the worse it gets with new issues apparent.

Before the combat rework this was one of my favorite games to play with friends. Now we just can't have fun with it, since we feel like storm troopers trying to shoot anybody. Noodle arms are not even realistic, you can't hit somebody slightly further than point blank? So not even the argument of it being being rEaLisTIc can be made (not like this casual game has or should have anything to do with realism). I wish I could actually refund the game now to be honest. It just doesn't feel good anymore while playing. I am on mouse and keyboard, but feel like I am playing on a controller while missing half my fingers.

Kind of creepy that this is some crazy game, but reminds me of my ex-girlfriends. A game never triggered my PTSD so much. Also have never been good enough in a game before. 10/10 would recommend.
