Probably the best, as in most impressive, GTA game ever made. Despite having a smaller amount of space than San Andreas, the map is far more dense and filled with things to do that make it feel like a real, lived in place. Even sixteen years later, I look at this game and I'm in awe at the absolute achievement it was. Not just a great map, but the best car destruction of any GTA game. Still an absolute joy to play that has definitely stood the test of time. I only hope that GTA VI embraces the revolutionary physics and destruction of this game.

Another surreal environmental narrative by Bloober Team, with incredibly good art direction and a chilling atmosphere that peels back more and more as you play. I liked it enough to get all of the achievements at least! In some ways it's an improvement over the original since it doesn't make so many loud noise stings when scary things happen, making it more subtle, but in other ways it can be frustrating. Use the "safe mode" if you don't like being chased by the random monster encounters.

Half-Life 2 is already one of my favorite games of this year, and while this free mod offers rather subtle improvements, I can safely say that they do make the game feel more "definitive". Worth downloading just for the commentary nodes alone!

Frighteningly on the nose commentary on the "AAA" gaming industry in an adorable clicker/idle game. Viva la (indie) revolution!

Hands down one of the most memorable experiences in videogaming that I have ever played. Go into this blind, trust me.

Like the description says, this is a psychadelic horror game. It plays around with your mind a bit with its twisted worlds, constantly changing scenes, and how things morph from the familiar to the uncanny.

There's a good argument to be made that there's very little actual "gameplay" in this, but if you view it as an interactive art experience then you'll see what the developers were aiming for. I often like to go back to it just to get sucked into this oddly creepy yet beautiful world.

It might not be for everyone, but if you can get it for a good price I wouldn't hesitate at least checking it out.

One of the most oddly addictive games I've played in a long time. Really brought out the OCD in me. On that 75th time I spilled that bloody bucket I laughed and cried. Even more hilarious in co-op where you can try to all work together or just screw everyone over. Seriously, give this a chance, it's absolutely well worth the money. I've already put in over 50 hours and will probably keep playing much longer, especially with Workshop support!

Davey Wreden does it again. I didn't know how he was planning to top The Stanley Parable, but here it is. It sent me on an absolute rollercoaster of emotions and ended with such a profound statement to dwell on. The power of a game to take something you think you'll understand and twist it into an absolute mind♥♥♥♥ has only barely been explored, but this is one of those games. I don't want to say much more out of fear of spoiling things, but I think this game has something to say to absolutely everybody, whether you're a game designer, creator of any entertainment or art, or you simply appreciate the "genius" that is perceived in said creators.

One of the absolute best platformers I have ever played, definitely up there with classics like Banjo-Kazooie. While it may not be quite as open-ended as Banjo, it makes up for it with its spectacular level designs, amazing art style, uproarous humor, incredible writing, and addictive gameplay. I cannot gush enough about how much fun this game was when I originally played it on the Xbox in 2004, and playing through it again at 1080p and 60fps (with full achievement support!) is just amazing.

This was my first game from Tim Schaufer, and it made me a fan for life of his and Double Fine's work. I even met the man in person last year at PAX East, which was a real treat. He's a very smart, charismatic, hilarious guy, and was even nice enough to give me a hug. If that's not a reason to give that man your money, I don't know what is.

To spoil this game's content would be a tremendous disservice to anyone wanting to play this, but I can attest that it is by far my game of the year for 2013 and my favorite "art game" ever. If you are interested in exactly how games are an art form, how game narrative and linear paths work, and also love some absolutely incredible mind♥♥♥♥s, all with probably the most hilarious narration and little attention to detail that I've ever seen (yes, even better than Portal), then you MUST get this game.

I am incredibly, insanely picky when it comes to games, and this is one of my emphatic, easiest recommendations ever.

10/10
