Great game when you have friends to play with. By yourself, not as fun but is still a great game. Another aspect of the game which people should explore is base building. This game is a great way to meet friends. 100% recommend. 21/4/15

EDIT:
It has now been over a year since I wrote that review and literally no progress has been made on the game. Unfortunately, there aren't any players actively playing the game, the devs messed up ammo spawns so now it takes hours to gear up, the Z2 map that was rumoured to be released in October of last year is still not in the game yet (It is on the KOTK Test server though), the base building system is absolutely pathetic when compared to a game like Rust, and overall there is no substance to the game, eg. Nothing to do. Don't waste your money on this game if looking for a decent survival game, buy Rust instead. 22/8/16

As far as I can tell, the game is completely dead, there is still no mention about the introduction of the new map (Z2) on JS, despite it already been released on KOTK. I won't be surprised if DayBreak cancels all development on this game. It really frustrates me to think that this game could've been an exceptional product and yet due the developers abandoning this faliure to focus on JS counterpartner, KOTK. I suggest if you're still playing this game, move to Rust while you still can! 4/10/16

Recently a new General Manager was employed at Daybreak; Landon Montgomery. His introduction to the H1Z1 team seems to be positive so far in my eyes. Honestly in the two or so months he's been at Daybreak more changes have been implemented to H1 then the last 12 months. Landon has been trying to make the game better, he seems as if he actually cares about the game and doesn't wish to see it die. He has also been interacting with the player base/community getting their opinions and using those opinions to influence potential updates. Currently I am not going to recommend the game yet, but if Daybreak keeps updating the game at the rate they are, I would recommend this game without a second thought. Loot has also been added back to the game (FINALLY) and it is looking possible for me to make a full fledged return to H1Z1 rather than Rust, we'll just have to see. Personally, I am really happy with Ladon's performance and glad that he is on the team. Could this be the revival of H1Z1? 3/12/16

I havent been playing the game recently and most of the people in the clan I was playng with over the holiday break have also stopped. Apparenlty there's been a new lighting patch, ive jumped in game to see what it looks like. It reminds me of how the game looked at release, which brings back some good memories about the first year of this game. There's also been a new building system that has been announced, I'm looking forward to that as the current one is not up to standard when compared to a game like Conan Exiles or Rust. A new map has also been announced called "Z3", although at the rate Daybreak works it probably won't be released untill mid 2019. 12/3/17

Recently the new update which includes the "Z3" map, stronghold system, raid system (Terrible idea), safe houses, looting system, kill feed, currency, and weapon system has been released onto the Test Servers. I honestly don't understand what Daybreak is trying to do at this point. This game is advertised as a survival game, why is there a kill feed which states who killed who and with which weapon???? The currency system SHOULD NOT be in a survival game. We should be able to place bases wherever we feel (Obvious exceptions such as cities and towns) and there should still be an option to live out of a shack. Some people like myself don't have the time to grind this game everyday and only have time to play a few hours on the weekend. These specific players shouldn't be forced into spending a large portion of time farming for an entire base. Shacks NEED to be an option for players. The looting system is just absolutely ridiculous, it steers clear of any survival game aspects due to it being in place. Guns are everywhere and loot should not be so prevalent and available. It should be a challenge finding weapons and ammo, not everywhere you look. Players shouldn't have to sell their weapons to some random NPC in a safe zone, we arent playing the Divisions here. The raid system is terrible. How it works is essentially, if you destroy a structure on the base, it triggers a 15 miunte timer to raid the base yet a horn goes off and flares are shot into the air above the base allowing players across a large portion of the map to come and counter raid you. If you take longer than 15 minutes to raid this base, toxic gas floods the area killing all within it and the base will rebuild itself. THIS IS NOT SOMETHING YOU PUT IN A SURVIVAL GAME!!!!! WHAT ARE THE DEVS THINKING?????? Overall, the devs have dug a grave for this game and H1Z1 won't leave this grave. I honestly thought Landon would fix the game but that's far from the truth. I've spoken to many of my friends about if they will be playing in future wipes. None will. I never thought I'd say it but I miss the SONY ONLINE ENTERTAINMENT days. I wont be returning to this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of a game. 24/6/17

rip h1z1, i didnt think the game could get any worse. gg daybreak. 13/9/17

well boys, sad to say this one is in the grave. i didnt realise the game could become any worse, yet the devs managed to achieve that. sad to say this one is gone forever 17/1/18

A couple days ago, the devs released a statement essentially saying the servers are getting shut down on the 24th of October. It's a shame the devs abandoned a game with so much potential and a dedicated fanbase, but to be frank; we all saw it coming... I might revisit the game before the shutdown to say my final goodbyes. Rest easy H1, you had a good run oldmate. 30/8/18
