Life is short like blink-and-you’re-an-adult short, so you might as well spend it screaming at your friends in voice chat when they forget to revive you for the fifth time while you’re chillin there questioning your life choices and thinking about how weird it is that you’ve somehow ended up bonding over pixels and lag with people you’ve never even seen in person, and yet you feel closer to them than half the people you grew up with, because it’s not about the physical distance but the fact that you can stay up until 3 AM talking about nothing and everything all at once, laughing so hard you’re crying, and then, before you know it, you’re meeting up in real life, probably way too nervous because what if they’re not as great as you imagined, except they totally are, and you realize they were always as awkward and ridiculous as you, which is somehow perfect, and you sit there thinking about how bizarre it is that out of all the infinite chaos of the universe, you—two insignificant people on a floating space rock—found each other through a badly optimized game lobby and some terrible WiFi, and maybe that’s the whole point, or maybe there is no point at all and we’re all just stumbling through life pretending we know what we’re doing, but at least we get to stumble through it together, yelling about lag, laughing at nothing, and making this weird, pointless, beautiful mess feel a little less lonely.
