In 2016, searching through many forums/reviews about popular & niche MMOs, I tried FFXIV seeking a story & character-driven MMO after quitting ESO. The majority consensus seemed to be that FFXIV was, & is, the MMO you had to play if you were looking for the best story in an MMO. This was when FFXIV’s free trial was level 20 with a 14-day time restriction. Despite warnings about ARR MSQ, I took full advantage of my trial. I purchased Heavensward & continued my journey from ARR to Heavensward patch content as fast as possible with my free month. The MMO & FF community did not let me down & I was glad I pushed through ARR to get to Heavensward, but eventually stopped playing due to finances. During the pandemic, the game got a popularity spike. I asked my IRL friend, who played, about the game & I returned with a new character. I found ARR more enjoyable, likely due to context & my maturity, & have continued to play to this day
