The matchmaking isn't fair in any capacity and the cheaters are rampant. Worthless game

PROS: It's fun.

CONS: At some point you realise or it is explained to you that you can ignore all of the special tools this game gives you, and do the puzzles in the most basic way, which is not a downside of the game, in fact it would be a fun challenge.
The downside is that some puzzles are set up in such an unfortunate way that they are literally impossible if you wish to challenge yourself in this way.

Ok, this is a roguelite with the Darkest Dungeon combat at its core. Sounds good, yeah? But it's just extremely ♥♥♥♥♥♥ to get into. I'm putting this game away for now; not sure if anything will get me to pick it up again later. Here's a summary of my experience in my few hours with it:

Tutorial & UI
TL;DR: "Tutorial quite serviceable. UI bad."

In the tutorial, you do a lot of reading. A LOT of reading. You try to learn the (largely familiar from DD1) combat system; you get introduced to the new structure of DD2. But, it's all in the form of pop-ups in relevant moments of a shortened run of the game, it's alright.
My complaints about UI are perhaps too vague. It just generally feels that various elements and information in them (maps and hero cards and inventory and game events and inns ...) are difficult/clunky to read and use.
Probably the worst UI "feature" is that you come across several different unexplained icons in various skill/item descriptions.
(While you do have a special hotkey that displays a list of hints for like 40 icon meanings, some little icons are NOT there and you can't mouse-over them in the game to find out what they mean.)

Art & Feel
TL;DR: Artstyle same as DD1. Setting weak/nonexistent. Story bland and in disconnected little bits.

The whole feel/story/art aspect feels much weaker than in DD1. The art style is practically the same, but there's something of a lack of purpose and history in the world. You, as the story protagonist, seem to be literally floating in a void (?) and the game runs are apparently supposed to be your attempts to recollect your past actions for some reason (?). You get a few seconds of spoken storytelling about yourself each time you start a run. There are also unconnected short stories about your individual heroes. All in all, the setting really feels like the bare minimum to wrap the gameplay.

Gameplay
TL;DR: Core same as DD1. Everything takes a long time. It just doesn't make me care.

Each run takes a ridiculous amount of time. Trying to comprehend all the variables, to plan some turns in advance, to pretend you're minmaxing... it's a drag.
I can't use most heroes. Of the heroes I can use, I can't use most skills. The solution seems to be that I play a lot and unlock all that over time.

When the apparent requirement is to try many many many runs, then it's a problem when each run takes a ridiculous amount of time and isn't particularly entertaining in itself.

When you kept your characters in DD1, that made me care. It felt alright to make even a short run for a small improvement. I didn't mind spending more time thinking through a combat room, when my favorite hero was in trouble. It felt like I was balancing between long-term safety and speedy progress.

In DD2, you have nothing to nurture throughout. You just have individual, very difficult sessions. They are a lot of work for a tiny reward in meta currency. There isn't anything particularly entertaining within the runs for me. Nothing about the story or meta-upgrades seems exciting either.
Should I hope that the game somehow gets better if I keep retrying the same frustratingly difficult gameplay from zero, in a sterile uninteresting world, ultimately collecting a bunch of some candles? Sorry, DD1 was great, but this one just isn't good.

I entirely lost excitement for this game during a chapter where at several points the only way to advance was to find a practically invisible clickable area in a random spot. This isn't a puzzle, it's "exploring" a dark area and spamming LMB. There is no "heureka" moment of having solved something - there is just the "ok finally, here is the arbitrary annoying hiding spot of the next interactible item"

This is an excellent videogame that punishes your mistakes by spreading lung cancer ("dragon rot") across the entire universe (but somehow only to your friends, not the hundreds of enemies) 9/10
