The game can be fun but the amount of idiots that don't understand friendly fire is insane. The game crashes frequently and restricts your matchmaking when you kick or block a player which is incredibly frustrating having to restart your game each time to fix that, would give a positive review if it wasn't for these very painful points, go get your cup of liber-tea

I picked this up again after playing on the epic games store version and was interested to find that the save data carries over, overall i find this is a really enjoyable game if you like to see your characters improve overtime and encouraging more tactical diversity in your fights, the story has some twists that can be baffling or overly predictable but generally leads you on a fun adventure. I would recommend this game if you're a fan of D&D style adventures

Biggest issue with the game is by far the amount of BS the "randomly" rolled dice are. 4 natural 1's in a row trying to hit the enemy? while the enemy gets 5 natural 20's in a row? on the standard difficulty with no adjustments... other than this glaringly painful event that happens with concerning frequency its a fun game to sink time into

edit: make that 9 nat 1's in a row because the odds of rolling that many in a row isnt in the millions and is totally likely to happen

Early Access Review
Opinion on the game simply put
- Honestly, its really badly unbalanced and feels like a dayZ wannabe.
- Tutorials aren't even accurate and depending on where you spawn, aren't seemingly doable to a new player which is very frustrating.
- The tutorials don't tell you how to get all the materials you need or how to deal with food problems which i honestly can say i never found food apart from some bugs and the occational olive. i tried carving up the "puppets" but it wouldn't let me turn the body parts to meat, ended up having to suicide and use my own body to do it with the same gear as previous attempts.
- Cooking seems to be a case of dump it on the floor near a fire and watch it get burnt instantly
- The "puppets" (zombies) are crazy fast, don't stagger properly half the time and will stun lock you.
- You need to wear 4+ tops, huge bag, holsters and quivers, waist bags, military boots, trousers, all just to have a somewhat decent inventory size.
- The amount of materials you need just to build the sheer basics is a little extreme at times and the leveling system is not made clear at all.
- The aiming is awful, just a tiny little dot
- Unless you build near a city i don't understand how you get certain materials for what should be basic buildings

All in all its a cool concept but the "immersion" side of the game holds the gameplay at a standstill and makes certain aspects just pointless or enough of a grind that it turns into a job, i spent almost 60% of the time playing cutting down bushes, 30% exploring and seeing nothing but trees for miles and the last 10% searching houses to find they have basically nothing of use then getting attacked by "puppets" and finding nothing but destroyed and almost completely unusable clothes that you can only repair to 50%. If you still want to play after reading this? Go in as a group, if you go in solo you will have a bad time.

its honestly a pretty good game, the mods on the guns and armour give you a lot of freedom to work with and theres different modes to the weapons, the enemies actually push you and flush you out of cover often which is a nice change...when the servers are actually working...fun game to play but maybe give it a while for them to get thier s**t together with the servers

So i streamed this having played a few other VR titles and i guess i'm not sure what i was expecting...
the "story" was quite a let down since it can be compressed down to a few lines.
"go to the apartment, come out the apartment, kill some zombies, protect wife, go to military checkpoint and get told no then run for it"
not as in a longstanding story condensed down, as in literally an hour, hour and a half maybe, After that seems to be DLC or hordemodes.
- next issue is the weapons, trying to chamber the guns is a serious issue as the interaction rarely works and is very inconsistent, on the upside though the guns do feel very nice and are fairly detailed. i did enjoy two handed weapons like the MP5 or UMP, they were done well with sights, the bow sights were awful though... melee weapons kinda feel like a joke, can swing away at someone with a bat or axe but there's no "weight" behind it, no proper collision detection, many times i've had weapons just glitch out on me and shatter doors.
- movement isn't bad but its not good either, very easy to drift off and feels a bit too sensitive but otherwise work.
Having done all bar 2 missions as my internet cut out i would give a 4/5 out of 10. Having played arizona sunshine this game just makes me want to go back and play that instead, it's got good potential and the hard work on it is noted but definitely needs some polishing... maybe tune the zombies as well so some of them don't sponge 5+ head shots on the standard difficulty.

honestly don't waste your time with this, the stuttering makes the game unplayable and no matter how much you change the graphic settings nothing fixes this, on a 1080ti with an i7 8700k struggling to get 50+ frames on medium settings at 1440p is a joke
combat is just the absolute mess known as for honour
clunky as hell and people are so unnatural, looks lovely but honestly unplayable as it is just now

no just because its a demo or prototype doesn't mean its acceptable to have this lack of polish, it has to be playable to deserve being called either of those things, currently it isnt.

its fun with friends and the story line is solid but not being able to earn the big bucks in a private session is a big let down for me with the "kill on sight" mentality most idiots have and thats before we even get onto hackers... all in all play with friends

they threw politics into the mix a little too much at the start

the audio breaks often, i found when i left my computer and it it briefly enters sleep mode (to get food or whatever) it causes the audio to just straight up not work or be forced through the headset and actually caused my pc to not register my speakers anymore (yes it is only with this game and only since i started playing the game before you start claiming its a hardware issue) the dialog is also based on you playing a male character, it will often reference you as "he" trying to slur it as often as possible to sound like it could be either "she" or "he" so they didnt have to create a second audio line for different genders

the faction idea is nice and all but it means you have to carry around multiple sets of armor for each faction in case of emergancys

the ability system is cool at first glance but actually really badly done once you realise that with all these different choices, you cant do any of the good or cool stuff earlier on in the game and it makes it feel like a chore to get the points

skills felt lackluster and magic was pretty poor in my opinion, just use guns and have 1 weapon for armor and another for raw damage (for whatever reason my purple saber which was 80% quality was still stronger than most the legendary endgame weapons)

companions are horribly, horribly done and honestly only kurt (your body guard) and siora (the native) are worth your time, kurt seems like the only one who can handle a crowd and siora enhances your weapons plus heals you often, the best part is they're both the lowest health/weakest in stats department yet are easily the best. dont get me started on the badly attempted and really forced romance, 1 wrong speech option and it keeps you from attempting a romance

the story itself is a thrown together mess which basically was meant to point out that we're ruining our world and need to heal it or be worse off or dead for it, twists and betrayals come out of nowhere and has no lead up to them really, the endings are too fairytale for my liking as they're tied up either nicely for the good ending where its peace and love or bad ending where everyone is screwed, either dead or dying

traveling from area to area is so painful its not even funny, one side quest which was a series of around 5 fetch objectives/passing along a message easily took the course of a week in game time of just going back and forth between 2-3 people over something i wish i could remember to tell you but honestly while playing the game i almost fell asleep 3 different times...

all in all, wait until its around £15, more than that and you may as well buy sleeping pills for the same job

honestly after the disbute between the developers, this game was made as a cash grab and a true nail in the coffin to this great series, its a 3/10 so far, the stealth gameplay mechanics dont transfer over to a survival/combat game well enough to allow this idea to work even as the idea is far fetched in the first place (more so than usual for this series)

over all unless you are curious about the game as i was or can get it dirt cheap, save your money and stick with phantom pain
