作为汤玛士，从一场噩梦中醒来，却发现自己仍在睡梦中。就像一个得了弗洛伊德综合征的但丁，在越来越奇怪并威胁汝内在的地狱中寻找汝的比阿特丽斯，整个世界鲜明的勾勒出疯狂在黑色和白色 （像精神分裂症涂鸦） 的血红色，标记可以操作的对象和几乎所有的童年恐惧、不合理或其他方面，仍然鼓动汝的心跳：黑暗、幽闭恐惧症、自我伤害、精神病院、令人毛骨悚然的白灼皮肤、乌黑头发的女孩、洋娃娃.......它触动了他们所有。
游戏恐怖气氛很浓厚，当缓慢的从一个房间到另一个房间时，游戏将尽最大努力，让汝不安。崩溃到没有任何提示的在地板上的碎玻璃渣，鸟儿以自杀的意图闯入窗户，神秘的人物当汝走近消散。然后紧张局势将会缓和下来，并将降低汝的警惕，然后会当场无情的打击汝。正如吾所说，这将会触及汝所有的噩梦。无尽梦魇有效的利用了jumpscares。虽然他们很多只是遵循了当时的气氛。
