This game is pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥ and a punch to the stomach to play most of times. The way realism in this game works really clashes. To give an example to this, there is well executed realism when it comes to things such as stamina, gun recoil and gun usage in general. The problem is, you as a squad can get spawn points all across the map, provided you have a squad leader and radioman who understand how that works. So now you're playing a mixture of a simulator and Call of Duty, which really sucks. You'll be getting shot at from every single angle every single time, and there you are: have fun waiting 45 seconds to respawn so you can get shot at from the next angle. The game is heavily dependent on teamplay to really work, guess what? It's an online game. I've yet to see a squad or a whole team have some coordination, which only makes the Call of Duty aspect of it worse. Can't recommend this game, however much I like both realism and the time era. Maybe try Hell Let Loose.

Man, when this series first came out I had big time prejudice and I hated it. But honestly, in my opinion, till they release Lord of the Rings: Total War, this is the best Total War ever. The game has also taught me two things: there's lizardmen, and there's lizard food.

So.. after 400ish hours at the time of this review, we're finally here: writing a review. This'll contain some spoilers, so dont read it through if you want to go into this game completely blind.

Where do I start? This game has a lot of flesh to it, especially for a game thats only 9,99EUR. I guess I'll get into the building aspect first. This is the only part of the game which resembles Minecraft, in my opinion. The building is nice and its somewhat easier than it is in Minecraft to make beautiful buildings. You can use hammers to make a block sloped or make it into a halfblock. Its well thought out, easy to understand and hella smooth. There's even accessories you can buy from specific NPC's that'll give you a ruler so that you know how wide something is. There's also a 'redstone' (circuits basically) system in it which allows for making traps, farms etc. The building system definitely contains everything and a little bit more.

Next comes the adventuring/cave exploring/mining part. I'm gonna have to be 100% honest, this game is definitely not finished within 5 hours. Hell, you probably wont finish your first run in 30 hours. The reason to this is because caving can be terribly slow. The cave generation can be a bit meh, and often you'll spend your time mining from one cave to another, till you find that big cave with a lot of loot in it, and even that usually runs out after a while. This mining and adventuring part can definitely become very grindy, because finding specific items can be pain in the ass. The same can be said for mining specific ores, although being an experienced player I know that mining the basic ores such as copper, tungsten and iron is something you really don't need to be doing. This means that there's a bit of dead content. Especially some of the items that you'll find whilst opening chests and such are going to be useless to you after 5 minutes, which is a bit of a shame.

On to the fighting/bosses bit. Yeah, what can I say? Movement is very smooth, bosses run smooth and offer different and challenging fights depending on which boss you're fighting. The different stages of the game also offer new loot and enemies as you progress on, making the game not necessarily easier despite unlocking a lot of luxury accessories such as wings. Theres hundreds of different weapons and dozens of different armours. You can go mage, you can go gunrunner, you can go swordman, flailman, jo-joman, it doesn't matter: you can even mix them up and do them all at the same time. All of this makes for a very refined, easy to understand, smooth and fun fighting system. Once you start getting better, you'll definitely start enjoying the fights much more too. There are about 20ish bosses in this game, so there's definitely no lack of fights either since you have to defeat most of them to progress in the game.

I could ramble on for another 10 paragraphs about the other mechanics this game has, but there's no need. The most important points have been adressed and this game is a definite 10/10 for me. I really recommend buying this game, you just get so much for your money. It even goes on sale sometimes at 90% discount. The only thing I do warn you for when buying this game: it's not as easy at it looks and it's definitely not going to be a quick playthrough. If you're motivated and driven to finish games you start though, get it!

Well.. where do I start with this masterpiece? I think I'll get to the fear aspect of the game first, which I forsee as a problem for people buying the game. Dont let anyone turn you off by saying its buggy or its glitchy, these developers do as they promise and I anticipate that in sometime this game will be nearly bugfree. In my 20 or so hours of gameplay, I haven't actually encountered any gamebreaking bugs.

Yes. This game is scary, I can't really say anything else about it. Certain biomes in this game already shout out: ''Turn around whilst you still can, you noob!''. The combination of a big open sea (with nighttime included) and no easy to reach land to run away from the sea creatures does creep up on you. Especially when you're a few hundred or maybe a thousand or more meters down. I'd like to think this fear aspect of the game is intentional, and for me it adds a whole lot of depth to the game. I've quit the game at points where I was like: ''Naaah, ♥♥♥♥ that I'm done for the day'', and I would find myself opening the game some time later to brave my fear. And that's what happens in this game, you overcome your initial fear. Once you've had your first few encounters with a few specific sea creatures, you sort of get over this fear and the game becomes a lot more chill for you. So dont think because you have fear of open sea and what not you can't play this game, because you'll get over that after some time.

The second aspect of this game which is insane is the graphics. You need only go through screenshots of people that own this game to decide that this game is one of the most beautiful games out there at this moment. Some of the caves you venture in are equally scary as they are beautiful, and thats what Subnautica does best. It turns really scary things into really pretty things, whilst remaining scary at the same time. However, I am running on a R9 280X, 8gb RAM and an I5-4570k and the high preset graphics are definetly still playable, despite my rig actually starting to break down. Dont let the graphics put you off because your PC is only designed for medium ends, otherwise play it on low settings: it still looks good.

The third stunning aspect of this game is the story. We've seen it develop from simply being able to get on a few islands and reading some datapads to saving an entire world. I wont go too much into this to prevent spoiling, but boy is this story good. It takes you from your safe starting heaven to the depths of the planet where you really don't want to be. I feel like it pulls you in. I'd also say that there isn't really much sidestory or sidecontent in this game, almost everything is tied up to the mainplot, meaning that whatever you scan or collect: its going to help you out somewhere along the line.

The fourth aspect, which in my opinion is the only negative aspect of this game, is that it can be somewhat grindy here and there. There's no map in this game outside of the maps that people made and you could put on your second screen. This makes navigating really hard. The solution to this is beacons, though you dont want to beacon off every single thing you find due to it cluttering your screen. How is this an actual problem? Well, most things that you want to unlock you have to find first, such as the seamoth. This consists out of 3 fragments that you have to find and scan, and then you'll unlock the blueprint. This is easy enough, but I feel like at times when you simply cant find the fragment that you need the game wears off quickly. It's something you'll have to last through.

To round it off, this is one of the best games that I've ever played and it definitely deserves to become Game of the Year. If you're still doubtful, stop hesitating and just buy the game. You can always refund it after an hour if it turns out your PC isn't good enough or you feel like the game is too grindy.

Like most other reviews, I'm going to have to agree that this game isn't worth its current price. However, being the brilliant gamer that I am I managed to finish the game in 103 minutes, meaning I was still eligible for refund. I didn't check any of the other content except for the campaign mode, so I can't say much about that.

The campaign mode however was fun, and the odd frustrating level really kept you in the game. Like I said, this game is finisheable in under the 2 hour limit for refunds. If you think you can do that, I'd pick up the game just for the taste of it (because this game is definetly a lot of fun), and just refund it later.

Early Access Review
Ehm.. where to start?

Ill start off by cracking the people who gave negative reviews, most of it is out of date. CA, hackers. I played a bit on a popular community server (which is not something I advice), and ofcourse you get bullied by people with steel armour once you get a base going, thats sad, people usually AREN'T friendly, but they arent hackers anymore.

The glitch in which it makes all your stuff disseapear after you log off, is also fixed, so complaining about that doesnt help anymore. I do agree however with the graphical problem of the game, it takes a good PC (for now) to run it, and if you have a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ low budget desktop, dont bother buying this game.

You will run into bullies playing on public servers, your house will get destroyed if you make it out of wood, you will be killed, you will have a hard time getting resources and its going to be a ♥♥♥♥♥, what can you do about this? Whitelist for a roleplay server. Roleplaying is something everyone can do, and the same goes for following rules. Whitelist roleplay servers - No kill on sight, specific rules about raiding, and people are friendly and there are 0,0000 hackers!

Find a good whitelist server, apply, then start playing. Playing on public servers WILL get you a bad time.
Sum it up in a pro's/con's

-Pro's
Fighting system is ok.
Resources aren't around the corner, it takes some time to build a base which is nice.
Guilds.
New building system rocks, physics, and the building on its own isnt boring either. You can get some boss structures.
Character customization.
Suicide rocks and gallows!
It looks pretty nice on Ultra.

-Con's
Takes a good PC.
Public servers are a ♥♥♥♥♥.
Resources are not scattered, its on one spot only.
Global taxes.

Really cant think of any good or bad points, if you got a PC that can run it, got a basic sense of roleplaying, and you are interested? Buy it, whitelist and start playing.
