I'm honestly not super good at this game yet (only about 3 hours in) but I love the versatility you have in moving forward each hand. It's not easy to tear yourself away, even when the cards do not fall in your favor and coming back to try yet another hand is really easy to do. Pleasantly addicting.

Unbelievable. This is the first EDF game that I will be refunding and all because of the Epic Fail Store services being forced on us. For those that pre-ordered, we certainly did not know this was going to be an issue. If I did, I certainly wouldn't have bothered pre-ordering this. For those that say it was posted on Epic's website some time ago... who cares? That's like saying that you need to go to a competitor's website (company B) to find out the fine print in company A's terms. Makes no sense whatsoever. Hopefully this will be removed, but at this point, until it does, I have all of the other titles already purchased (maybe time to give Insect Armageddon some more love...)

This updated version of the original classic plays quite well and has the same rocking soundtrack as well. No major crashes encountered so far and everything feels great out of the box.

A rather fun mech game with decent mobility and weapon customization options. Controls using a twinstick style for the gamepad and feels reasonably responsive. You can hold two weapons at a time (and weapons you find in the world can be unlocked for future use at your home base). Not a lot of weapon choices but the mods can impact how each operates and you can tailor that to your style (do you make your faster firing minigun fire faster or plug it into your shotgun for more devastation up close, for example).

This is a roguelike style game, so keep that in mind. Intel you find in the world can help you get permanent upgrades to make future runs a little easier but the procerss to get them can be a little grindy at times. This game is also a little on the short side, but is still enjoyable. With the New Toys update, the game changed in a few ways as well, making the roguelike elements much stronger and completing the game harder.

This is a very fun game with a neat story and a lot of characters to interact with. The only real gripe I have is somewhat minor... there are some platforming elements and I feel that is not the true strength of this game. Sometimes the collision is a bit off and the feel of jumps can be a little odd as well. Besides that, the action is very fun, the sheer amount of weapons and skills that you can use are quite numerous. You basically have three categories for weapons: melee, machine gun types and launchers. Even with all of the different types you can find, I stuck with a fairly basic sword, machine gun and rocket launcher for the entire game, upgrading their rarity as I discovered better ones.

I won't get into the story much as it's something you should see on its own, but it's basically the story of a girl that wants to get out of the underground life that she is living and she wants to go to school and play with her friends on the surface. You will encounter a number of characters along the way that will advance the story and give you help (and some intrigue here and there).

Overall, highly recommended.

Early Access Review
I think this game might eventually be something fun but as it stands now, there are a number of odd bugs and inconsistencies and I can't seem to finish a level.
When you start out, you only have one weapon and can eventually earn a total of 5 but once you get the homing rockets, the game really wants you to use them. There is a basic rocket launcher that seems weak, an electrogun that seem even weaker past the first level, a "fire from above weapon that wants to track where your pointer is and an airstrike. Most of these are ineffective, especially if you are in an enclosed space. Right after you get the fire from above weapon, the game introduces enemies on a lower level that this weapon can't reach, rendering it mostly pointless.
Enemies are brain dead to the point where if you can attack them with a weapon from a safe distance and they can't see you (like the homing missiles), then just spam the fire button until they are gone, but don't move while you do so... they also seem to be able to hit you (for no damage).
The final level I was able to get to mentions going to a safe place to wait out the siege and if you get spotted, the level ends. Still, you can go to a safe spot and kill every droid with the missiles without an issue. That said, I never found where I was supposed to go and this is where it gets frustrating. The first few levels are small, claustrophobic areas with little imagination except some neon lighting. Later, you are on the roof and this vast space opens up, allowing you to see an interesting cityscape. The last level (for me) is an open city to run around in. Sure, there's only enemies to avoid/kill and nobody to talk to and nothing to do, but at least it looks nice. But that's not nearly enough to justify any of this.
I wanted to like this from the trailer I saw and the cheap price for the bundle I purchased it in, but unless the developer adds more and ties things up nicely, I can't advise anybody to buy this.

Just reading the description, I didn't think a driving combat game would be married to a SHMUP style of game, but it works better than it sounds. The overall driving can feel a little sluggish early on, but once you start getting some upgrades, your car handles better and can take more abuse. You will also find which weapons work best for your style of play and also how to handle each enemy vehicle as it arrives (it took me until near the end of the game to realize that one particular type with a swivel machine gun can't seem to hit straight ahead, so if you get ahead of it and fire backwards, you can escape with no damage).

Soundtrack is fun and engaging and the boss encounters are inventive. The story seems by the numbers initially but takes an odd turn toward the end that you might be able to figure out a portion of beforehand. By the end of the game, I felt fairly invincible, but the final boss was still able to humble me again, even with full upgrades (guess I got a bit too cocky). All in all, it took about 8 hours to finish the game and get all of the achievements, but it was time well spent. I'd love to see more games in this vein in the future!

What else can really said? This is the game that basically spawned an entire genre of games and still gets a lot of new content. Come for the fun, stay for the new characters, marvel at the possible broken combos that can occur. There's so many different ways any given run can go and none of them will be boring.

This game is not a perfect masterpiece but I'm not sure it deserves the bad reviews that I have seen. You might label it as a bit of a twinstick shooter and that is partially correct. While in your mech (and using the drone) there are some aspects of twinstick shooting in it, but there is also a bit of (admittedly wonky) platforming to do in spots. The melee combat is simple enough, using light and heavy attacks to allow for simple combo strings and you can buy upgrades to add finishers for a bigger impact at the end. By the end of things, I found it was far easier to use the gun and hose down enemies from a distance than it was to engage in a lot of melee combat, but your mileage may vary.

People complain of the voice acting and it is all over the map. I thought some characters sounded better than others and some definitely are a bit grating to hear, but it's not enough to take off much in a review. The environments look great and the music is rather fun and fits the mood. There are collectible skins to change into and upgrades to your health and power meter, which help quite a bit and plenty of powers to use for that power meter depending on your play style. You could grind to level up those powers you want to, but it's definitely not necessary (or feasible) to try to max all levels (nor is there an achievement for doing so).

I ran into a few glitches over my 12 hours playing, some minor, some a bit more concerning. Several times, I effectively ran too fast for the game to catch up (the dash upgrades help a lot in covering terrain for looking for those skins) and arrived at a door that showed "open" but refuses to let me through until I went back, let it "close" and then re-open again. More alarming is in the last level... several times (and I was able to capture a small video of it happening), I would do a finishing move on a wounded enemy near a wall and the animation would put me outside of the wall. When the animation was finished, I fell out of bounds endlessly. I had to reload a save (which luckily was right near where this happened, so very little was lost). Much earlier, I had one instance outside where the camera got too close and wouldn't zoom out at all, so I had to use the mini map and navigate using that to the nearest save point and once I reloaded the area, everything was normal.

All in all, 12 hours total for getting everything (skin scouring too longer than I hoped and I thought I grabbed the one in the forest earlier, but the game didn't give me credit for it or I forgot to save). Definitely a fun game that doesn't complicate itself unnecessarily. It might not have dozens of options for configuring the "perfect" build for you, but it gives you enough to mess around with and still feel like you have room to grow if something you upgraded isn't as amazing as you initially thought. Recommended.

I waited until I played through the entire game + DLC to write this review. In short, this game takes the Terminator franchise and gives fans what they wanted most... a chance to run around in the future setting and take down Terminators. There is a real love for the franchise in this game, one that understands the world better than the latest movies could ever hoped to figure out.

At the start you are weak and have to run away from a lot of encounters, especially with Terminators, but as you progress, you will be able to stand toe to toe with them. The skills you can upgrade as you level up let you branch off in the path you want. Want to hack turrets so they can help you clean house? Go for it. Want to be more resilient to take more damage? Be my guest. Love picking locks and finding the hidden treasures from others before you? The world is yours. Plenty of options to choose (in the end, I was able to get all but one skill full researched and I possibly missed a hidden skill book in doing so).

The DLC takes the story and branches off slightly, taking you on another path for a little bit before it effectively drops you back in the regular timeline of the main campaign, even though you do start this from scratch. It gives you a point early on to basically answer the question of what you want to be and then dumps some points on you so you can establish the type of player you want to go for (I chose a hacker and that was even commented on).

Basically, if you like the movies and want to run around in the futuristic environment, feeling like a bad ass, then this is the game you're looking for.
