EDIT: Sony walked it back, thumbs up from me.

The decision to require PSN account linking well after release will cause lots of people to be unable to play this game with no choice of a refund. Really hoping this gets walked back. The main points I've seen against this are that 1) there are players in certain regions that are unable to use PSN, so they will be unable to play a game they paid for. 2) As you can see in some other reviews, Sony doesn't have a great history of data protection with many large scale data breaches in the past.

As this is a fun game with friends I will probably switch my review to positive if the PSN account requirement is rescinded.

My main gripes with the game itself are really down to two points:
1) Its really not well optimized. Yes I have an old rig (1070 Ti, i7-7700) but even after setting everything to low and using ini tweaks to put the game even further into potato mode, I don't think it hits 60fps on 1080p. No I will not use resampling, its ugly and doesn't improve performance enough to be worth it. When I can hop over to Destiny 2 and hit 144hz very often, this game doesn't feel great in comparison. It's playable yes, but the game's graphics don't seem like they should be so demanding.

2) Speaking of Destiny 2, the devs seem about as good at balancing as Bungie devs are. If you have a history with Destiny, you'll know that's not a compliment. A prime example is the slugger shotgun nerf from last month. The slugger was (and kind of still is) the best sniper primary in the game. What did they do to lower its pick rate vs the actual sniper guns? They didn't touch its damage falloff or accuracy, things that would force players to use it in closer engagements. They turned down its stagger ability and didn't do anything to the sniper primaries. Fair enough that the slugger could stunlock devastators and they wanted to downtune it, but that change doesn't really do anything towards the stated goal. Since then the snipers have gotten small damage buffs, but the way weapons behave in this game, they still feel pretty atrocious to use. I really don't like FPS games that introduce lag to your mouse input. Its simulating your character having to move their arms and weapon, which does contribute to immersion a little bit, but it is so infuriating to know you were able to hit a shot but were stopped by the game adding additional input/lag to your aim.

Again on balance, I use maybe three or four primaries. The rest are pretty dogwater and I doubt arrowhead's ability to tune them to being viable guns. I hope you like the Scythe because its simply the best primary in the game. Or I hope you don't like the Scythe, because eventually Arrowhead will nerf it because of its high pickrate and you'll be vindicated. Attempting to solve problems with purely data-driven solutions does not lead to maximizing player enjoyment.

In summary, I can't really give this game a thumbs up until *at least* the PSN account stuff is resolved. You will probably have fun, what I've described are nitpicks with the gameplay. This is more of a protest negative review. If you have a group of four, you'll enjoy this game together.

Top of the line gameplay, questionable dev decisions.

Way way way too expensive, asking you to buy DLC from previous games to access content in this one. I have TWW 1 and 2 in my library with no playtime, purely because they were required to play Immortal Empires. That's no longer the case, but you still need to own those games to access their factions in this title.

As you can see from other reviews, creative assembly is being thrown to the dirt by poor management.

Fun game, worth playing! Don't buy it.

Your FOV in this game is locked to 60. From what I've gathered, FOV will never be changed and a slider for it will never be added.

Imagine serving an FPS on PC in 2020 and locking it to console FOV. Before any of the p2w accusations, before any analysis of unlocking gear or even playing the real game, this is an instant drop. No FPS game worth playing has devs that think this is okay.

This game is a better horror game than most actual horror games. Short and sweet, and you'll be stupidly scared the whole way.

If you have friends to play this with, Please go and hop on a server with eachother. This game has so much potential, and it's so fun to play with friends. The map is a little small, but that means it's easy to find eachother and learn it. With Steamworks support coming soon, public servers will be up and it'll get a lot better from there.
