First time playing a SV game, but not my first time with a TCG/CCG Online Client - In the 21 hours I've played, I've genuinely enjoyed my time with the game. The gameplay is solid enough, and the client itself is well made.

Now for the elephant - The reviews about p2w. There's no getting around it, as the monetization does indeed exist. However, in the 21 hours I have played, I have purchased the First Farers bundle on the steam store and nothing else - And I have managed to craft the same deck whales have been running with high success, and managed to gather more than enough along the way to have decent to solid builds of every class in the game that I'm not maining.

I feel the outcry is a bit overblown, personally, and while others disagree - I can comfortably say with my honest experiences with the game, it's been very appealing in all areas, and I would recommend people give it more than one or two games to see if its for them, as I initially didn't think I was going to enjoy it so much. I also HIGHLY recommend looking up and doing every way to get free currency as it will GREATLY help you out.

As of the time of writing this review, Darktide in its current state is a passable game, held back immensely by the fact Fatsharks previous game, Vermintide 2, is better in, my honest opinion, arguably almost every single way. Most people reading this will think "Well of course, VT2 is a 4 year old game that's had nothing but updates and content releases" and while that is obviously true, I still feel it is a totally fair comparison between the 2;

Everything new, or changed for the sake of change, in this game, is not as good, or doesn't make the game better.
Everything old, or kept over from VT2, in either spirit or complete identity, is not as good, or downright worse.

I'm confident with a year or two of updates and tweaks, this game can be good, but the experience provided and shown to me right now, has me feeling like anyone who just wants a good co-op time with the lads would get far, far more enjoyment and more worth from their money by buying Vermintide 2 over this game.

That said, I'll probably still play this, praise the Emperor.

Post-launch review edit: Despite the game barely running at a stable 60 during the "beta", once the game had fully released, with even LOWER settings enabled, it struggles to now hit a stable 30 in all areas, and is borderline unplayable during most scenarios. That, coupled with missions missing, a MTX store that's grossly overpriced (and time-gated, please play our game every day), unfinished systems such as crafting, I honestly cannot recommend this game in its current state.

you're doing yourself a disservice by not playing this game if you've played any of the previous entries; price tag and genre change aside, everything about this game is brilliant, from the typical yakuza staples, enemy designs, music, locations, setting, the lot. every new character is an incredibly welcome addition to the series, with all party members having unique and likeable personalities from the minute they're introduced.

for a soft potential "reboot" of the franchise, with a new protagonist and genre, they couldn't have done better.

Another classic knee-jerk reaction to the same launch day issues every game has; server issues and mild bugs that can be fixed within a week. But because its M-MUH FAVOURITE GAME SERIES it exclusively gets the negative attention rather than the positive.

Game is good, extremely well done PC port with crossplay support, granted at the time of writing the online servers are having a bad time, and the launch is a little barebones for cosmetics and player related content, this was exactly how Gears 4 launched and by the end of its life, that game had more content than any of the others by a mile. If you're not happy with it at launch day, just come back a bit later and see how it's improved.
