It's a diamond in the rough. Storytelling is superb, meanwhile gameplay... let's just say is passable to put it nicely.

Best parts of the story are included in main storyline for obvious reasons but I found side missions to be just as entertaining if not even better at times. Of course there are some sidesteps here and there. I was really let down by how short the actual main storyline is but it does tie in some of the side story content.

With all the character customization we have in game I was really hoping to see my character in cutscenes more than a handful of times. Obviously game relies heavily on roleplaying and I understand from that perspective first-person mode is more immersive but it also made it feel like customizing and setting up your ''V'' as u wanted was more or less pointless. With the wardrobe update out now, you can set up skin sets so you can admire your V in the inventory screen, since that is mainly the only place you're going to see him/her.

Game supports multiple playstyles from run 'n' gun to stealthy 47 to a netrunner hacking his way through, even letting you combine all of these. Game even ties in the perks to the story where you can get some exclusive dialogue for having high perk allocation in certain perk line, mainly to help with the roleplaying. I feel like it could have had some adjustments to requirements for some flavor dialogue instead of being either around 6-7 or jumping straight up to 20.

Game is still plagued by bugs and glitches, even more so than at launch I feel like. I played the game almost through at launch and I have just completed the game from scratch and felt like was barely any work done if at all to fix the bugs. Most of the bugs are visual like characters clipping through floors/objects/wall. Ai will sometimes get stuck into the ground or decide to stop ever 2 steps while you're supposed to follow them in a mission. I've even had the camera pulled inside my V's head and just see his eyeballs. Have had ui disappear, which I could only fix by making a save and loading it. Most annoying bug is when playing stealth and the ai detects you through a SOLID wall. Your ai- partner, which you are forced to fight with in certain missions, might randomly decide F* this while you're trying to stealthily sneak by and runs in screaming DIE YOU Motherf-.

While this sounds all doom and gloom game isn't half bad if you can brush off all the graphical glitches and bugs. Environment is well build and good looking, although lacking in life. Story takes on important subjects very well and even sometimes felt like it let the players ponder on things for a while. Personally I've enjoyed most of the time I've played the game with very few moments where I felt like it had been a waste of money. I'd say it's worth it on sale, not at full price.

TL;DR: Great story, multiple playstyles, great for roleplay, lots of visual bugs, wait for a sale.

I wanted to spend at least 100 hours before giving this game a review so I would have better understanding of mechanics and overall game play.

First off, the game is massive. Now that I've gotten 100 hours in game, doing all side missions I find, progressing main story as well. I am just about wrapping up 3rd act, or better said, first act where the game really opens up. Without giving any numbers to keep this spoiler free, I've spent most of my time in 3rd act.

Game doesn't force truck loads of lore on you if you don't want. There's a lot of dialogue options and additional lore and info in books you can find. Also these books serve for giving hints of what's to come later on in e.g. dungeon you are currently doing. Most of the time you can also go talk with the person X,Y,Z, etc. later on to catch up on their lore/info if you're not up for it right away. Which leads me to the next point, voice acting. Game is partially voice acted, mainly with the main story, some side missions and occasionally during camping. Sometimes I wish more of the game would be voice acted, or sometimes when voice acting just stops in quest without a notice, it feels out of place. But anyhow, game's voice acting is top notch, up to par with top rated games. Dialogue can sometimes feel little odd, with tongue on the cheek written one liners here and there. They usually bring a wide smile on player's face but sometimes feels they're little out of place. Companions feel like they really have their own personality rather than being written with just few differences, and I feel like they follow up on their alignments. Companions personalities might interfere with your own, I had one occasion where my party member blurted out rude comment while I was trying to convince enemy not to attack me, and then I was given option to tell my party member, ''Do that once more and you're out''.

There are some mythic paths you can choose from, e.g. angel, demon, Legend, etc. Most of them have to be unlocked as story progresses, but these three seem to be open by default. These paths can affect massively on your story and how the game plays out. Even the game reminds you, there are no wrong choices. They give game a lot of replayability. I've spied from different streams that are running on different path than I am, how these can affect, and the game play/story has a lot of different choices/outcomes than mine.

Game has insane level of class customization. There's 25 classes, with each one having 5-7 sub-classes. Want to roll rogue monk? Go for it, want to roll alchemist druid? Be my guest. You get to choose feats every other level, level up your stats, pick new spells, etc. Mythic paths add up on top of these choices and can give some really strong or fun combinations.

Character customization on the other hand is really lacking. Granted you're not going to stare your character up close most of the time, but few more options wouldn't hurt. There's generally 3 body types to choose from, few faces and few hairstyles. You can also choose different character voices, which will play during battle, each one having their unique charm and giving more personality to your character. Or you can choose ''no voice''.

Unlike Kingmaker, this game has dynamic tutorial, which really helps out during all parts of the game. It can give you tips on how to deal with certain conditions, or how armor class affects you, etc. So no more googling for hours just to find out what all these abbreviations mean or how they're calculated.

Puzzles are fairly made and rewards exploration and attentiveness. Most puzzles I've encountered so far have felt fair in a sense that if I paid attention, or was willing to backtrack a little, I could easily find the answer. There has been 2-3 I had to look up answer for. Most puzzles could be brute forced, but it is strongly discouraged, since it's either going to take u a lot of time or punish you with damage.

Hooray, no more needing to buy rations from vendors to travel long distance on the map. These have been replaced with corruption, taking approximately 2-3 rests before reaching first level. Corruption gives you stat debuffs and can even kill you if it gets too strong. But it is quite forgiving in my experience and rewards little bit of planning. You can cleanse this corruption by resting in your own city.

City management is back from kingmaker. In short, you can manage your city affairs, build buildings in your city (doesn't give any visual change though), and recruit armies. You can automate this process if you want, but it will apparently lead into you missing certain path choices or key elements of the story. Personally I'd recommend sticking with crusades and city management. These things give the game it's own unique spice and once you can get the ball rolling, it comes like 2nd nature. Obviously crusade mode could use some enhancement, like giving tanks taunt or area of denial to prevent enemy rushing past them like there's no tomorrow and making them next to useless. City management doesn't punish you so hard in my experience and there is quite a lot of room for error, so it's nothing to stress about, unlike kingmaker.

Continuation in comments, since steam's review has limited characters.

Definitely one of the easiest Paradox games to get into. Truth be told, only Paradox grand strategy game I am actually able to understand on what is happening and why I am winning/losing.

I've played almost all paradox games after EU4 without being able to comprehend what I am supposed to do or what is causing me to have such hard time without going through tens of hours of guides on how to navigate the UI or how to play the game ''properly''.

This game has a great tutorial in safe island of Ireland, where you seem to be pretty safe from outside forces. It's like it's own vacuum, where you can safely feel things out. I was actually amazed on how good the tutorial was, compared to other Paradox games, they did a good job on it.

Although being more transparent, and may I say, simpler, the game is still complex and throws you middle finger at times. Be it getting dethroned from your kingdom back to your duchy because of a rebellion or having your treatment butchered and becoming infertile without an heir. These thing give the game a nice spice up from the mundane table top experience. Of course these things can be prevented/circumvented by reloading earlier save and choosing to go about things differently. But if you're looking for achievements, you need to go ironman, which means, no easy save scumming. At first I thought it sucked, but I feel like it makes me more invested and considering on my decisions on things when there's a risk of throwing 10-20 hours of campaign out of the window for small gain. I can't really recommend going ironman mode first play through though, just to get feel on things.

Combat is basically Rock, paper, scissors with added modifiers from leaders, terrain and forts. It's not the ''main meal'' of the game, like it is in something like total war series. At times it almost feels like bigger stack = victory, although I am not yet so heavily invested in the game to say if this is true or not.

In conclusion,
Game is slow playing, problem solving grand strategy with added spice of RNG. It is nice change from something like Total War series, where you're more invested in combat and less invested in long term planning. While ''fast paced'' play style is possible, game really encourages slow paced, more planned expansion. Great first step on getting into Paradox/grand strategy games. Different traits and player character skills can really change how you lead your empire, be it assassinating your rivals and inheriting their land or be it expanding by force or just developing up your economy and transforming into a huge war machine later on.

*disclaimer* I've never played real D&D*

This game is what I'd imagine PnP experince to be. Combat isn't the selling point of this game, nor is the quests, although I find companions interesting. I'd say the unique kingdom management idea and deep character customization is your main take- away from this.

Don't get me wrong, combat is cool and they absolutely nailed it with the ability to switch between turn based and Real time with pause. Just don't expect Larian studios level of flashy combat. Also be prepared for ''unbalanced'' encounters because the game doesn't railroad you into one path so you could face level 1 goblins at level 5 or lvl 8 water elementals at level 3. It's not end of the world, especially on ''normal'' difficulty and you can usually over come these challenges with bit of strategy. I was put off of trying this game for long time after reading someone's review of encounter being unbalanced because of lack of DM to keep things in check, you shouldn't.

Be prepared to sink in time, and do a lot of saving/loading, even the game says in loading screen: ''If in doubt, save''. There are some ''traps'' in game which devs put in as a bait and could roll you back few hours if you don't save frequently. Personally I don't mind these and I've learned that this game doesn't want to give things for free, also loading screen tips are actually useful. Some of these unhappy accidents could be avoided by just following the tips in loading screen.

Story isn't the best I've seen but it keeps me interested well enough and seems to tie into kingdom management pretty well (I am not a lore hound, more of a mechanics player). Some things are time gated and it can put you under pressure but I feel like they mainly have some lee way but should be taken care of when possible, since this game tends to be full of surprises.

I've had the game since it came out but just recently gave it a shot, sunk in nearly 27 hours in just two weeks. I'd say be prepared with some spare time when playing, since things can really drag out.

Difficulty wise I'd say this is the happy medium, harder than Divinity: Original Sin 2 but easier that Pillars of Eternity 2.

In conclusion, game is worth way more than 20e. If you're fan of c-rpgs/d&d, this is a good starting point, although you have to do some researching if you've never played D&D, like me.

Definitely my longtime favorite game. I wasn't Totalwar fan before first release of TW: Warhammer but this all changed on fantasy setting since I am not a history geek.

Game has great graphics, good variety of units and races. And the fact that 1st game content (if you happen to own it) all transfers to 2nd game is simply amazing. Loved 1st game's greenskins (orcs)? Well do not worry! You'll be able to play in 2nd game as long as you have first game in your library.

Base game includes High elves, Dark Elves, Lizardmen and rat people, yes, rat - people aka. Skaven. Game's main map (Vortex) is okay, great for beginners but I'd say if you're long time strategy player and want more sandbox experience than guided one then you should consider playing Mortal empires (yes, again, it also requires 1st game). Game is on deep discount currently, 20e. It's a robbery for how good this game is and how much there is to do. I paid full price on release and never had to regret spending 60e on this game. There's even tons of mods and active workshop in steam so if vanilla gets dull, go treat yourself with mods. Also around 50% of dlc is FLC, which is FREE! During a sale I would get 1st and 2nd game if you know you're fan of strategy games. If unsure on your purchase, then buy 2nd one and slowly start expanding your game if you feel you're enjoying the experience.

Game has really innovative mechanics at times (especially for newer DLC factions, like prophet and warlock (hint. hint. Nukes)). I never thought I'd see nukes in a medivalish game, well granted, there were steam tanks in the first one. Game is about to get new update non 3rd of December, which keeps game fresh. Although updates are coming few and far between nowadays since game is nearing end of it's life cycle but the game is on relatively stable state currently and doesn't really need so many updates and fixes.

Yes, there is TONS of dlc but not at all required, even base game has really interesting mechanics and units etc. Only DLC I would strongly recommend is BLOOD FOR THE BLOODGOD, which is blood dlc for those of us who love gore. It has divided opinions as why it is dlc but it helps to keep game age rating under 18.

Though I am not a huge fan of rpgs in general, this game just sucked me in. This game can surprise you in so many ways that you never imagined, be it someone yelling ''Show me your boobs!'' or discovering that you can apply nails to your boots. At first I thought this was just another ''hooray it's good'' but sucks game but actually it's one of my favourite games now that it really started rolling. All I want to play now is DOS2. Playing Co-op is even more fun, be it trolling your friends or goofing up stuff by accident.

Definetely worthy of purchase for anyone who's interested in rpgs. Turn based combat gives the game a nice tactical layer and makes you think your moves, really nice flavor for the game. Be it comboing your spells and elements or backstabbing and stealing stuff from people. The fact that quests aren't handheld and really shown you on the map and told you exactly what to do in questlog keeps you interested in conversations and game overall..

My old review still holds true (below), online play is unplayable. Good fun for party game or remote play with friends. Online is just horrendeus, 0 balance on matchmaking. I am on 3 wins , 27 losses right now and game keeps tossing me into similiar lobbies it threw when I first made my review. Would imagine if there is ''competitive'' and ''quick play'' that even one of those would pay some attention to player's skill level, apparently not.

Sigh, as much as I'd like to say this game is good, I can't. At least online, it's just horrendous, I was expecting somewhat equal skill level experience in online, everything else, when am I getting placed against people with hundreds of hours under their belt and when am I getting placed against smurfs, I can admit if I get beaten by good player but I can also tell when someone's out of their bracket. That being said, I had nice fights, very few and far between, though. And searching times for a battle is just awful.

Story was nice but bit short for my liking. As an old Tekken fan I can recommend if one's going to like beating head to the wall online, or just sticks to offline, online is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mess.

Customization is nice and there's a lot of it, some outfits/items feel out of place but everyone to their liking.

I've never been fan of Total War nor Warhammer, though I've always wanted to try TW, always losing interest mid way because of tabletop gameplay. I've always been HUGE fan of fantasy and boy, does this game suck me in. I say ''I'll just spend quick 30 mins on this'', 3 hours later, one more turn...

I love the big roaster of races this game has, granted, I've got all the dlcs, but still From orcs to humans to vampires. Dlc is bit on the pricey side but hey, some of it is free and base game it self has tons of gameplay value. Fantasy might not be everyone's cup of tea, like history isn't mine but if you are even mildly interested in fantasy strategy, give this game a try! (Blood for the bloodgod dlc is almost must have to make this game feel more alive).

First off, I used to be huge DW fan back in the day (Dw2/3 I think). So I got this game. In my opinion game is well made but in a sense that it feels similiar to old ones, yet still interesting and fresh.

This game has tons of content and is mainly a slash and bash game. Keybinds are really messy if you try to play on keyboard without rebinding them. I am not a big fan of singleplayer games but this game keeps me going for hours at a time. Amount of combos and chains you can do adds a lot of diversity to the game, not to mention all the characters that you can play.

Few cons I find with this game: No multiplayer (online, you can set up local co-op though), amount of dlc (Game is supposed to be ''complete edition'') and it doesn't tell you how to unlock new animals (E.g. Elephants), it might be pro for some, but personally I don't like it.

Overall this game is a solid pack of slashing and fun for hours. Should you get it? Really depends on your own budget, it's often on sale, so save your money if you can hold on to it. In my opinion game fits well to the people who have played DW before, but why not to the new comers as well.
