Bellwright is what I hoped Medieval Dynasty was going to be. You build a camp to a town to then a full blown village. Your people are easier to manage, similar to Rimworld where they will immediately work but you can prioritize their tasks. You can have multiple camp/towns/villages and at the current design and combat scales up as you push your territory outward.

It feels like they are designing a Bannerlord type game but simulating it all in real-time vs switching between battle mode and the campaign map. The really cool thing about this game vs other survival games is that they appear to simulate NPCs outside of the players view so raiders, and people really do traverse the map vs teleporting or "spawning in nearby" like games like The Forest do.

Hoping to see full blown castles and sieges in the future along with a more simulated economy vs shops just refreshing their stocks every X hours. This game is really fun now, especially with their latest update and it can all be played in Co-op with friends.

I can't recommend this game until you're able to customize the world settings like time to craft, day/night cycles among several other server/world settings that exist in survival games like V Rising, Palworld, Valheim etc.

Really fun game though I feel it'll need another 6-7 months to balance the weapons further. Still fun and worth a try but now many players can't play because Sony wants us to create and link a PSN account to data farm us. The problem too is that many of us can't link it currently (the option simply doesn't exist in-game), or people are region locked.

This is greed and bad leadership at the highest levels trying to take advantage of a successful launch and ride the backs of passionate developers while they themselves contribute nothing.

Edit: Sony reversed their decision for PSN links. Glad Valve and the gaming community showed solidarity against corporate greed.

I've been playing and modding a wide variety of games for 30+ years and am always looking for the new experiences (not the same ole game, but modernized). I understand the technical side of games and the intricacies of the smoke and mirrors/illusions within them. BG3 Is the type of game that makes you forget almost all of that.

The first thing you'll notice about this game is that you can't exhaust all conversation possibilities or simply pass a persuasion check and it magically "solves the problem". This immediately makes the world feel more like our actual world in that even if you do all the right things, the world is complex and there is no black and white choices/resolutions.

The items you loot, books/notes/scrolls you read, all tie in so nicely, even when found in any order (this is done well in other games too).

Another great part about this game is it's accessibility. Splitscreen, LAN, Online COOP, Interface options and sizing, vast graphical options, controller support (with Native Camera Mod) which I'd argue is better than Mouse and Keyboard (it plays more like Dragon Age Origins and is more immersive).

Finally the Combat. Especially in COOP, it is done very well and much better than DOS2. In DOS2, combat took FOREVER because each player/npc took their turn 1 by 1. In BG3, they are done in blocks of groups. So your friends and you can take your turns together and so do the enemy NPCs. It makes for more of an engaging experience since you can coordinate or be careless and go out of order which can be refreshing for min/max decision fatigue. Combat just flows faster and keeps your attention and even if it's not your turn, you can still plan what you want to do by looking at your spells, items, enemies, etc.

Larian is an amazing company. They play their own games and know their community. This game has high replayability and I foresee the mods making it one of the best games of this decade.

Neutral vote. The game has potential if a passionate solo modder or group came in and made it more closely to Gangsters Organized Crime. If not, there is a fun, polished game here and a small modding community, but I'd say most would get only a good 30 hours out of it and realize its mostly combat focused (like Xcom) and the management/simulation is lackluster (but there to build from).

As someone who modded a bit of the game, it should technically be possible to take the existing gameplay and transform it into G:OG or their own version of a game they'd enjoy. The devs basically released all gameplay code and have wiki pages explaining how to setup modding and mod examples to get going (Unity and Visual Studio).

Also note my playtime is not reflective of my console playtime on Xbox (30+ hours). Controller support works well in this game.

I've played Railroad Tycoon 3 more recently and Mashinky feels in the similar vein early on with some key differences. First, I just want to praise the dev for implementing multiplayer. These types of games are fun but even more fun to play with friends/family so its nice to see when the devs put in the effort.

The main difference is signaling. Trains don't just pass through each other but will crash and burn if you don't properly route them. The train routing AI does a pretty good job of intuitively understanding how it reads your signals and created routes. Though the game allows you to get real detailed to maximize efficiency. There's a really good steam guides explaining signals (or blocks). There is a tutorial in-game and its better to learn by mistakes at first.

The economy uses a token system which hooks you in once you understand the basics.

The other thing is that there is no AI competitors which at first threw me off but then I realized RRT3 AI Companies were sorta dumb and just got in the way (or cheated when it was clear they were not competent). There is a lot of AI code going on in the background in Mashinky. Its extremely satisfying to tweak and improve routes and connections.

This also runs great on the steam deck for those who have one. Cheers!

I can't even believe I have 100 hours in this game already even though I was without power for a week in February and work a full-time job.

I've been gaming since before steam and struggle to find interesting games these days that can hold my attention for very long (20-30 hours most of the time before it drops off).

While I do see Valheim's long-term limitations, I still feel at ease playing it. One part of me wants to explore and blow through it while the other half wants to take my time and savor it (especially with friends when our schedules align). The world of Valheim really captivates you in a way that makes it feel very alive and inviting.

Better yet there now seems to be a growing modding community so I may do it all again with mods =)

Outward isn't for everyone but its also not hardcore (especially with mods). I always wanted to play single-player adventure action-rpgs like Skyrim or Oblivion with family/friends. I feel like Outward has some of the similar flavors as those open world games without it being too overwhelming.

It has an interesting beautiful world, yet simple. The quests introduce you to the world/story/lore (with choices) yet it doesn't overwhelm you that you forget everything.

There are no levels, but many classes and enough skills (mods add more). Combat is rewarding.

If you feel its too difficult, there are plenty of mods on Nexus to tweak the game to how you and your friends want to play (up to 4-16 players). If you and your friend have descent internet, they can also remote-play with you in splitscreen without owning the game.

If you've played/enjoyed Warband, its a no brainer to get Bannerlords. The Devs of this series basically created the early access model with their first game releasing in EA in 2005 with a free replayable demo and the game costing as little as $10. They have stayed consistent all these years and are still staying true to their fan base while also polishing up the game to be more accessible to a mainstream audience.

The current version is solid and they are already patching up major issues in the first 5 days after release. TaleWorlds most importantly listens and supports their community. The modding community is arguably the most vibrant and ambitious of any game next to Skyrim. This is because modding is near 100% supported in and out (I've put in over a 1,000 hours into modding With Fire and Sword DLC).

I've also put in close to 5,000 hours into the entirety of the mount and blade series which is a true testament of mod and DLC content that this game can produce in such a short time that keeps it fresh and interesting. Nexus is already showing 84+ mods and Moddb has many big projects planned with dozens more being worked on behind the scene.

Best entertainment value money can buy so might as well get it now and support a great company.
