It's ok.

This isn't a joke review, it's good but just don't get your hopes up.

Best shooter in the market by far, even 6 years after its release. Got absolutely unparalleled movement, an excellent campaign with cool set pieces, great multiplayer, had its fair share of free content updates, okay customisation mostly tied to progression. Brilliant level/map design. A game you can nitpick about, but will only remember the good parts about when you take a break. Gunplay is tight, titans rock, it's all good fun. A worthy successor to the arena shooters of old, and built on the same source engine, it's a natural evolution of the movement shooter formula, built by the people behind the best of the call of duty franchise.

It's alright if it's your first time diving into a fighting game.

The game is great at exposing the fundamentals of fighting games to you and giving you an idea what makes the genre fun.

Cool cast and stellar presentation.

The training mode has lots of utility.

Single player modes are a bit of an afterthought and the story mode is one big cutscene with barely serviceable animation.

The online experience is a bit of a mixed bag.

As for the gameplay mechanics. They'll probably be fun for the first 100-200 hours. If that's worth your money then feel free to get the game on sale, ideally with a friend or two.

i was a bit disappointed by the removal of crates and pulling the plug from linux and mac after epic's acquisiton. As much as it incentivized microtransactions, it made it so that free to play folks could hustle by trading thanks to the player economy, and people who were looking to pay also got better deals from the f2p players. Since the game went completely free to play, the player base has pentupled and i suppose the fortnite item shop business plan is profitable enough to keep it afloat for a good while. Server investment doesn't seem to be proportional to the increase in active players as i encounter network problems way way more than i'd desire despite a fairly fast and stable internet connection. It appears that the game has been delisted on steam, so i'm wondering how epic people access workshop content. if they can't, that's absolutely abyssmal to say the least because it adds a lot to the game. That being said, the gameplay is too good that as long as it's intact as is, this game will always thrive no matter the monetization method or the ditching of quality of life features or supports to platforms with smaller player bases. It has tanked a lot ever since epic's acquisition but it's hard not to play and like it.

If you're into this sort of game, which you won't know exactly before heading in, you will get hooked on it. So much so that you'll burn yourself out by overplaying it and grinding till you see the sun rise and then leave the game you played 300 hours in a month and never pick it up. If you're given the heads up to not play it too much and give it time, you will play it a healthy ton through a stretched amount of time. Then again, I can reassure you that you'll have a way better time playing it then I did because despite the insanely well optimization of the game due to having originally come out in 2013, my computer still has a hard time running it and the game most of the time was very eye tiring to look at with stretced low resolution, though that is just a personal problem that probably you won't have to experience.
