As a life long lover of Star Trek and a big fan of other MMO's (like WoW, RS and ESO), I'm honestly surprised it's taken me this long to give Star Trek: Online a look. By doing so though, I've had an absolute mountain of great content to play through that's kept me thoroughly entertained. (With many famous characters from the TV shows popping up, voiced by their respective real world actors.)

Everything has been created faithfully and the developers have done a brilliant job at working with the recent retcons to established lore that Star Trek: Discovery has created. The ship designs are fantastic and varied (with a decent amount available without the need to spend real money, though the best ones for late game content are P2W) and the game has that classic MMO approach to leveling and obtaining gear.

The best part of the game (in my opinion) are the space battles, for me this is where ST:O really shines. There's a surprising amount of depth and complexity to the kind of builds you can create for your ship and how you go about obtaining / setting up abilities. The game still has that classic ground action that will be familiar to those who've played other MMO's and the game takes a fairly equal focus to both 'boots on the ground' action and some truly massive space battles.

There's a decent amount of customisation when it comes to your ship, with many of the free ones being modular, so you can mix and match parts to make your ship unique. You can also change details like ship colour, window design and even the interior of your ship. (Which you can enter and navigate, with some of the paid for ships having facilities like banks and access to the exchange on-board.) There's also a good selection of customisation's for your character too. Though a lot are locked behind the games paid for currency (Zen), I've played for over 100 hours and been quite happy with the customisation's I've unlocked for me and my officers just by playing and leveling up. (Max level is 65, though you continue to earn skill points after to spend on specialist skills.)

To summarise, here's a list of pro's and con's.

Pro's:

- Entertaining, well written campaign and side missions with some great voice acting.
- Everything in terms of story content / dungeons / patrols are available to all F2P players. (Easily hundreds of hours worth of content to play through.)
- Around 20 ships available for F2P players. (Which with time and effort can be kitted out for higher tier content.)
- Treats the Star Trek established lore with respect and expands on it greatly.
- Engaging combat system with a great level of depth.
- Multiple factions to play as, with ability to make a completely custom alien character.
- Large amount of customisation in terms of character / ship builds.
- Can obtain the games paid for currency (Zen) through in-game means. (Though requires extensive grinding to get an amount substantial enough to buy anything decent.)
- Game feeds you a good amount of equipment / weapons etc as you progress through the story.

Con's:

- Most of the best ships in the game are locked behind the games paid for currency Zen.
- Although the game features PvP, it's nigh on impossible to find a game.
- Encountered several glitches throughout the 120+ hours I've played so far. (None game breaking, but a few janky animation glitches in some cut scenes that although funny at times, can also take away from the immersion.)
- In order to comfortably play the games high tier end-game content, you'll inevitably need to spend money to obtain a decent T6 ship. (With more money to be spent if you wish to upgrade it via a token purchased in the games store.)

Overall, I'm 123 hours into my time with Star Trek Online and I'm thoroughly enjoying myself. I've only spent £30 of real money (which I got through selling an old skin in CS:GO anyways) which has gone on buying a nice T6 ship, along with an upgrade for both it and my ground character. If you're a fan of Star Trek I'd highly recommend giving ST:O a try. And even if you've not really watched any Star Trek but enjoy MMO's, it's certainly worth a try. There's more than enough free content to keep you busy for hundreds of hours.

Put thousands of hours into this masterpiece since release, by far the greatest arena shooter of its generation and the ultimate UT.

Remember when Epic made great games? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

Absolutely loving it so far! Refreshing to get a new arena based FPS.

Pretty much if Halo Multiplayer included wrist-integrated portal guns and jetpacks. Has vibes of Unreal Tournament & Quake, with references from each game included. (Glory to instagib!) Naturally with it being F2P, there's an array of purchasable micro-transactions but certainly nothing P2W. There's also plenty challenges you can complete to unlock cosmetics for your weapons, so you don't really need to invest money to stand out. (Including the elusive golden gun skins, COD fans rejoice!)

Would highly recommend if you're a fan of Halo MP or arena based shooters in general. I'm hoping this game succeeds and goes far, could make a great competitive e-sport in the future.

This game is absolutely consuming.. Decide to load it up, and before I know it hours have passed.

Best way I could describe it is a mixture of Minecraft / City: Skylines / Command & Conquer, though less emphasis on the combat and more on making your factories as efficient as possible. (If you enjoy base building you're going to love this.)

Game itself has a great level of depth, with mountains of different components to produce which in turn are used to make more complicated and advanced stuff.. What makes it unique to other top-down games like this is your character, and the fact you physically have to traverse the world. (With a fair amount of vehicles and a train system at your disposal.)

If you're a fan of old school RTS and management games, then I'd highly recommend checking Factorio out.. And even if it doesn't look like your thing, download the demo and give it a shot! You might be pleasantly surprised.. I know I'ma be playing for many more hours to come.

A fantastic overhaul of Skyrim and definitely worth your time if you're a fan of the Elder Scrolls series or fantasty RPG's in general.

In terms of the games mechanics and interface it's pretty much identical to Skyrim, albeit it a few quality of life mods thrown in to give a more friendly inventory screen. (Alongside more shortcuts, such as I for inventory, J for journal etc.) Graphics wise it's a bit of a downgrade from Skyrim SE or the plethora of graphics mods out there, but it's to be expected considering it's running off of the games original release. (Besides, graphics aren't everything!)

Storywise it's brilliant and I'd say it rivals the likes of Witcher 3 in terms of in-game story telling and character development / relationships. When playing regular Skyrim I'd rarely find myself bothering with companions, preferring to go it alone.. In Enderal however, I find myself immediately rushing for the companion quests when they come available and always taking an opportunity to go exploring with the likes of Jespar. (My man!) The story on a whole has a much darker, more adult tone compared to that of Elder Scrolls and is written very well, it being easy to get immersed and a few plot twists and cliff hangers along the way.

The voice acting I'd say is 50/50.. Though most NPC's I've came across have been pretty well done, with others you can tell a lot of amateurs were used during production. (This one particular kid you stumble across in the village of Riverville, jeez..)

The dungeons are very well thought out and no two feel the same, compared to Skyrim where once you've explored the entire map, you start to get a copy / paste feel with many locations you visit. Loot feels well placed and is less reliant on RNG, with quite a few armor sets included for you to find. (Featuring different enchantments and set bonuses, similar to the likes of WoW's tiered gear.)

As expected with any good RPG, you've got a plethora of skill trees and upgrades available to use. These are accessed through meditating and like Skyrim, every time you level you're given a new 'memory point' to spend. Don't expect to level through grinding skills though, Enderal is dependant on gaining XP through killing mobs and completing quests. The class system is a nice touch, with a multitude available depending on what trees you go down. (And special classes available once 10 points have been invested in at least 2 different trees, myself running an Elemental / Blade Dancer Battlemage.)

Another final thing to touch upon which i find greatly helps the immersion (and stretch out play time) is the lack of conventional fast travel. Unlike most Bethesda games where you're able to access your map and travel to any location you've discovered, Enderal relies on another WoW style trope in the form of Myrad Towers. These are locations spread across the map in which you pay to fly on the back of a giant gryphon / falcor like creature to get around the world. Again, I feel this helps with the games immersion and really gets you familiar with the map, forcing you to explore and discover new locations and quests.

Overall, I'm 30 hour into the game and thoroughly enjoying my time! I'd say I'm roughly 75% through the main story but I've still got mountains of side content and locations to explore, so I can see myself investing at least another 30 into the game. (And probably go on to make some more characters in the future.)

When it comes to Destiny, I'd like to consider myself somewhat of a series Veteran. (Used to love it on XB back in the D1 days and have been addicted to D2 since it went free for awhile last year on Battle Net.)

This game will always have a soft spot in my heart and feels right at home on PC, especially now that it's living on Steam. It regularly gets compared to Warframe (with plenty of butthurt fanboys coming over to try and tell us why their game is superior blah blah). Though similar in some ways, I see it pointless to compare the two as they both play very differently and each have their pro's and con's.

Destiny is amazing fun for those who're looking for absolutely bang on gun-play mechanics, a vast open world with an interesting story and long spanning lore to discover. (Along with plenty of OP guns to use as you progress.. Gotta farm those sweet, sweet exotics!) If RPG mechanics are more your thing, then come on in! With the recent changes made to the stats system, along with the introduction of Armour 2.0, it's never been easier to truly customise your Guardian's build and find something that's really unique to your play style.

Each planet has its own personal vibe, along with specific weapon and armour sets tied to each. If you enjoy a good grind from games like Borderlands, then you're going to enjoy what Destiny has to offer. (Though most exotic drops are sadly tied to RNG, so no boss farming for specific gear.) On the MMO side of things, there's plenty of re-playable matchmade activities to keep you busy. (From strikes & nightfalls, to the likes of Gambit or popping heads in the Crucible, Destiny's answer to PvP.) However, if you're coming here specifically for the PvP experience, expect to be forced into a lot of PvE scenarios to get access to the best gear the game has to offer. (Not including the absolute god tier weapon that is The Recluse.. Enjoy the comp climb!)

Of course, no MMO is complete without a good raid or two, and Destiny has 7 unique ones to offer. (Taking into account Leviathan's different variants.) Honestly.. The lush, verdant settings for these raids are some of the best the game has to offer, with some truly breathtaking scenery. (The graphics in this game are some of the best out there with some truly stunning environments throughout.)

Finally, let's touch on New Light.. Destiny 2 has recently went free to play, with plenty of content that's cost players well over £60 being given away absolutely free for people to try.. My question to you is this. Why wouldn't you give it a go? If you're a more casual gamer looking for something new to play in the spare hour or two you get, then the free content on offer should be more than enough to keep you busy for awhile. And if you're looking for a more hardcore experience, then give the free stuff a try first and why not invest in the two DLC's if you like it? (Trust me, Forsaken is still worth the extra money with the amount of story and additional gear given to you.)

Shadowkeep is a brilliant continuation of the already well established lore, and I personally can't wait to see what else Bungie have in store for us.

I hope to see you on the other side Guardian... Oh, and go Titan. ;)

Took a peek down to the 'Overwhelmingly Positive' reviews.

Took less than 10 minutes, but the concept is fantastic and you've got to play it now.. Don't read any more reviews and risk spoiling!

This has got to be one of the most refreshing and enjoyable indie games I've played in ages!

Really good laugh all the way through with an absolute ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of references. (Especially love the 'Three Shells' reference. ;D) .. Overall, highly recommended. (Y)
