Amazing story. Beautiful visuals. Great gameplay.

This game needs no lengthy review. Just buy it.

While I have had some good times playing this game, those times are few and far between. You will either be completely dominating, or get completely dominated, there is very rarely a close fight. The best battles in this game are the close battles, but they are perhaps 1 in 100. The main issue for me was the lack of maps, you will literally get the same map sometimes 5 matches in a row and it becomes tiresome very fast.

In terms of gameplay, you will find that tanks are often doing the job of snipers, by staying on the edges of the map, hidden away as far as possible, sniping individual soldiers and vehicles. This is because tanks are extremely vulnerable to infantry and I know this from playing an infantryman the majority of the time. I literally felt like a troll, going around on my motorbike, running up to tanks and taking them out with complete ease. Tanks should be leading an attack or at least supporting breakthrough's, but you will never see this happening due to the anti tank rambo's everywhere. I never once played a tank commander because I can only begin to imagine how frustrating it is.

I'm not even going to talk about planes in this game, the AA weaponry provided is absolute garbage, and pilots will dominate AA gunners with ease. Nothing feels right in this game.

Many other reviews go into details about the problems with balancing in much more detail, so I won't bore you anymore with those specifics, but what ironically 'killed' this game for me was the latest attempt to involve the community by doing dev Q&A streams. The guys doing them have absolutely no energy or charisma about them, seem fed up with the job and need to drink alcohol to get through it. Ironically, the attempt to 'reach out' to the community and some of the terrible side-stepping of relevant questions was the tipping point for me to uninstall.

This game will tease you into believing earning lots of credits and buying better equipment will make things better, while it certainly makes things easier, the game itself is still very repetitive, especially with the lack of maps.

Overall, a briliant concept that has sadly fallen way short of its potential.

I usually turn my nose up at cosmetic DLC's, but these devs are worth supporting.

Turning mods into micro-DLC's. Wow. Just wow.

It's bad enough when you buy a game knowing 50%~ of the content is already developed and locked behind a DLC paywall to be released on demand. But when you start selling mods as DLC, well.. that's just too far.. way too far.

I've been an avid gamer for 15+ years, but if this trend in the gaming industry continues they way it's going, I'm going to need a new hobby.

The focus used to be around making a great game which then in turn made a profit. (Warcraft, Age of Empires, Grand Theft Auto's, Previous Fallouts are just a few examples) Now it's just profit... all profit. This game is a prime example of how the gaming industry has largely abandoned making games that will make a timestamp on our lives and memories, in favour of just milking the masses on the backs of a popular franchise and appeasing their shareholders.

As for the game itself.. the story side-steps from one place to another so often I had forgotten all about the main characters actual motivation; his/her lost child. Also, it is literally impossible to be evil in this game, it does not have anywhere near the amount of decision making of previous fallout's. I mean, you can be a bit of an ass, but nothing you say or do really seems to change anything in the story.

When I first started playing Chivalry I had one hell of a great time. It's gritty, realistic and very satisfying to play. From mass melee's to meeting a single opponent in a corridoor and having an epic duel. I loved this game.

Then after earning a certain amount of experience I was forced out of the "New player" bracket, to which you can never return. At first I thought this made sense, and seemed acceptable. A good way of making sure new players don't get rekt straight away by people with hundreds or thousands of hours played.

Problem is, after you leave the new player bracket, chivalry goes from a gritty, bloody and enjoyable melee-fest, to a breakdancing simulator.

Spectating two vetern players in a duel is like watching ice skaters that defy all laws of physics. Ironically, the people that put the most time into this game are the ones slowly killing it. Although I can't blame them, the mechanics allow for this, so.. abusable mechanics will always be abused.

If you want a really fun and original FPS combat experience, you will get that in the new player bracket. After this, you have two options; continue to fight 'normally' and have your ass handed to you. Or learn how to 'matrix' and play with stupid high mouse sensitivity and take part in dancing comeptitions with swords.

In conclusion, I still have to recommend this game, there's nothing else quite like it that I know of, it's a great experience for a certain amount of time, and I definetly feel as though I got my money's worth. It's just sad that the 'end-game' revolves around how well you can breakdance, not how well you can wield a weapon.

TL:DR; New players will absolutely love this game, until you're out of the new player bracket and game becomes a breakdancing simulator, where you either dedicate the vast majority of your free-time to learning how to breakdance with a 2 handed-maul, or dump the game and move on like the vast majority of people.

Shame, really.

An interesting twist on the RE series, fans of the "old school" feel of resident evil games will appreciate this one, especially if you are fortunate enough to be in posession of a VR headset. Personally, after playing this chilling demo on my modest 1920x1080 screen, I can safely say I will never be using a VR headset for anything other than POV pornography.

If this game doesn't put the sh*ts up you, then you should probably be bungee jumping for a career or something.

Unlike recent games in the RE series, which are more action-orientated than survival horror, RE7 appears to be going back to it's roots, with an interesting transition to first person, if you have a heart condition of any kind -- avoid. It's not all cliché jump scares either - very few infact. The atmosphere is very immersive, you will be afraid to turn around, you will be afraid to open doors, to me, this what RE is all about, or at least was, "back in the day".

I recommend playing with the lights off and the curtains closed, but you should probably also wear your least-treasured underwear when playing and be sure to stick to the games recommended brightness levels - it really adds to the immersion.

Good luck.

Battle Brothers is simultaneously unforgiving and rewarding, it will punish, betray, deprive, steal and lie to you. But it will also congratulate, promote, inspire, teach and let you cut off 3 heads in 1 swing.

I love this game and always will, I also hate it and always will. But the love outweighs the hate for me, by 95%.

UPDATE:

While I haven't played the game at all recently, I felt as though I needed to update this review to reflect on some of my experiences over the past couple of years. I have picked the game up again on occasion, but didn't find myself as content to continue playing as I used to be. There have been many changes over the past couple of years; mostly in terms of your character having a skill and perk system, which is a nice addition and adds a lot of RPG-feel elements. However, the game suffers from something I feel a lot of survival games lack; 'end game' replayability.

Being a new player in this game is fantastic, as written in my original review below (long before I had so many hours played), but the fundamental problem is that once you are established, once you have access to creating your own munitions and have the hardware to farm resources effortlessly, the game becomes quite stale. I'm sure the addition of more NPC's etc. in the future will amend this, having a reason to leave your stronghold and go out into the world, but I feel as though the developers are perhaps setting their sights a little too high.

A recent cross-platform release (consoles, *sigh*) was met with a huge backlash of negativity, mostly because the game needs so much work - not in terms of content, the game has an endless amount of items and block types and there is still the potential for a massively popular RPG/Survival experience in this game. The problem is that some of the core engine mechanics really, really need work. Movement feels sketchy, aiming weapons and firing them feels far from smooth and the game doesn't exactly run smoothly at high settings even with beefy hardware. This was forgivable 2 years ago, but for it to still be playing this way is dissapointing.

I still hold out hope for this game, and I'm sure I will return to it, but I would love to see the developers iron out the creases in the core game mechanics instead of having such an enormous amount of focus on adding new things. Finding poop in toilets and having the ability to throw that poop is hilarious, turning that poop into compost to grow crops more efficiently shows great ingenuity, but I only wish they would iron out the creases before adding to the already vast amount of items/blocks/locations etc.

I have no doubts about keeping my review positive - this is a fantastic game. I would still recommend this game to new players without hesitation, it is a great experience, especially with friends, but for it to become a true blockbuster, I feel the developers need to take a step back and improve on what is already there.

Original Review From October 2014

My first time playing this game was one of the most enjoyable noobie experiences I've ever had, digging a hole in the side of a hill before nightfall and hiding inside, starving and hoping nothing would find me, seeing sunrise has never been such a relief. After some exploration and scavenging for food and water, I found a town, thinking this would be a good place to lay my bed and fortify a building to try and hold off anything that came for me at night.

What a mistake that was, a horde came for me and trashed my defenses, the few crossbow bolts I had managed to craft were consumed in no time, and I found myself in a backroom hacking through the roof trying to find an escape route, my friend below me yelling at me to hurry up as he desperately tried to repair the door that was being pounded on by zombies. "I see daylight, I've found a way out!" Our glimmer of hope ruined when I looked down to see my friend, looking up at me, with the floor beneath him almost completely destroyed and a horde of zombies under him, barely a block left to stand on. I told him not to look down, but naturally he did, what ensued was a genuinely fearful collaboration of curse words, desperation wouldn't be a fitting enough word to describe it.

Genuine adrenaline rushes and forever fearing for your life, this game has brung about a whole new meaning to the survival genre, being in a fortified position and crafting yourself a lot of ammunition simply won't cut it, you can play rambo for a short time but your resources will eventually diminish if you use them too recklessly and you will find yourself back to being starving and hiding away once again, you really need to think about how and when you're going to engage the zombies by choice, because when a feral horde comes for you, you won't have a choice, and you better be ready for when that happens.

Not only is this game a great thrill-ride and at times a genuine tester for your grey-matter, it is also a brilliant game to play with your friends and rewards co-operative gameplay. Sustaining yourself, by yourself, is indeed possible, but with friends you can assign eachother certain tasks, for example me and a buddy built a fortified bunker with a deep mineshaft underneath, he spent most of his days underground mining, creating ammunition and such, providing me with raw materials, while I worked on our surface defences and food supplies. Do-able alone but so much more efficient if planned with a friend, or a few friends is even better, unless you are the hardcore lone-wolf type.

I have yet to play on a "no rules/ PVP" server, I can imagine that adds whole new elements of fear-factor into the game, knowing that other survivors may just snipe you from a distance and steal your stuff, at their own discretion, or maybe they will help you, it's up to them, I may build the courage to try this someday, at the moment I'm happy enough just trying to survive waves of zombie hordes on a PVE server.

Overall this game is already almost a finished product in terms of crafting and survival aspects, there is the occasional annoying glitch/bug here and there as to be expected in a game at Alpha stage but I have found nothing game-breaking as of yet. To think that there is so much more to be added in terms of character customisation, experience points, more weaponry etc. is a very exciting thought indeed. I can see this game making a huge impact on release, it is genuinely brilliant fun.

Highly recommended, especially playing with friends!
