While it is possible to play this without a joystick, it's not as enjoyable AND it would be near impossible in multiplayer. That said, if you have one, get this game; the free part is very enjoyable.

EDIT: In a previous version of this review I stated that I used a Steam Controller, this is no longer the case after obtaining a mechanical keyboard (ikbc F108 with Cherry MX Red switches). Basically, the more responsive your keypresses are, the better in this game.

After over 100 hours in this game, it's time for a review. First of all, if you like/liked Super Smash Bros, then get this game. It's free; try it. This is essentially SSB but with a few differences in gameplay.
Now I would like to point out a few things before you get into it. a) Parts of the community can be pretty toxic (in their gameplay or otherwise), but in my time playing it I've noticed that there aren't as many of those players as some may think. b) One or two legends (a.k.a. characters) are just plain broken (I'm looking at you Thatch). However, 99.99% of the game comes down to skill. This is where we get into: c) This game is easy to learn, but amazingly hard to master. Seriously, you'll be learning new techniques by reading guides and Googling maaaany hours into the game. Also, on that note, some find it easier to play with a controller (XBox, PS, or Steam), but there are pros who use a keyboard; it's simply preference. I play it with a Steam Controller, but I'm decent with a keyboard as well.
Finally, if you're remotely interested in this game, just install it. A refreshingly small install size combined with being able to run on PotatOS gives you no choice.
