Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time

Wow. Just wow. I finally found a game that lets me do all the things I’ve always dreamed of doing: farming, fishing, mining, and slowly becoming the mayor of a small, suspiciously cheerful island filled with talking animals and unnaturally helpful people. If that doesn’t sound like your version of a dystopian nightmare, then congratulations—you’re either a sociopath or the target demographic. Either way, you’ll probably love it.

The main premise is that you travel through time and help build up a town while juggling different “Lives,” which is the game’s very cute way of saying “jobs.” You can be a blacksmith, a paladin, a chef, or some other non-essential cog in society. I chose to be a mercenary and a carpenter because I wanted to be aggressive and productive—basically the exact opposite of how I behave in real life. The best part? You can ignore the main story for as long as you want, which is perfect for people like me who are allergic to narrative responsibility.

Honestly, Fantasy Life i is like if Animal Crossing and Skyrim had a baby, but the baby was raised in a sterile environment with no emotional trauma and an endless supply of side quests. Everything is charming. Everything is colorful. And everyone wants to be your friend. It’s horrifying. I’ve never felt so respected and empowered in my entire life. I am only coming up for air before I dive back into playing all damn day.

In conclusion, if you enjoy cute time-traveling adventures, being obsessively productive, or pretending the world is a safe and manageable place, Fantasy Life i might just be the pixelated escape you've been looking for. And if you don’t like it? Great. That means one less smiling NPC breathing down my neck with offers to help me build a fruit stand. Five stars. Would ruin the timeline again.

Was so much fun at release! Then they came up with the genius idea to retcon all of the story, and make everything more expensive. What could go wrong?

It's alright, I guess. I'm still new to the game.
