Georg ist ein legendärer christlicher Heiliger, welcher der Überlieferung zufolge zu Beginn der Christenverfolgung unter Diokletian ein Martyrium erlitt. In den orthodoxen Kirchen wird er als Groß- bzw. Erzmärtyrer verehrt. Historische Angaben zu seiner Person sind ungewiss.

Der Planet Uranus hieß ungefähr 70 Jahre lang Georg. Sein Entdecker Wilhelm Herschel gab ihm 1781, zu Ehren Königs Georg III., den Namen „Georgium Sidus“ – Georgs Stern. Erst in den 1850ern wurde der Name offiziell in Uranus geändert.
