OK I think its time that an actual honest review is written. I am seeing too many people hop on this already huge bandwagon of nonsense complaing about points that are moot.

At the time of this review is being written I have already completed the tutorial, played in MP and in the BETA so I will be basing my experince off that.

To debunk some very silly arguments. If you see any of these arguments as cons in a review please ignore it:

  • The game is bad because it does not have Kojima and its not a metal gear solid
Well the game isn't called metal gear solid isnt it, its called metal gear SURVIVE, Its supposed to throw fans for a loop in a side story or a what if scenario. While I love Kojima and I'm a fan of his work, just because he is not part of this project means nothing. Play the game for what it is. Ironnicaly Kojima said before he never plans to make a MGS game anyway so be glad the IP is still getting exposure.

  • The game makes you pay for an additional save slot.
No the game does not..Lets get this one clear because there is a lot of misinformation out there. You have ONE save which is free you only pay if you want MULTIPLE CHARACTERS . I know you want to complain anyway so sure tell me whats your point? To complain just to complain? I can't think if any game that I've played in recent memory where having multiple character slots were crucial. This is a game that has single player and multiplayer elements in equal amounts however MP is not mandatory. Again good job to hop on the bandwagon to complain about a point just to complain about it. The only other reason I can think of, and mind you no one has mentioned this yet are the people who share steam acounts, and if thats the case, tell your friend or little brother or cousin or whatever to make their own steam account (its free) and just share your library, they'll get their own save on their own game. Not like you can split screen or play on one pc at the same time right?

If anyone can actually give me a reason why you NEED multiple characters THAT YOU CAN ONLY PLAY ONE AT A TIME, please let know I would love to know a valid reason other than simply" just because." Bottom line I have a problem just as much as anyone else when game companies are greedy like locking content from a game through DLC or through pay to win tactics like in Star Wars but as a player there is 0 benefit from me having multiple characters as I can only play one at a time. Adding that feature hurts the player in no way shape or form but hey some people just like to complain because why not.

  • I keep hitting this zombie 1,000 times with my pipe this is boring
well I can't save you from being bored or in this case your own stupidity because you fail to see the obvious in game mechanics where you can repair and upgrade your wepaon so they do A LOT more damage, or the ability to alltogether just craft other types of weapons. I've only played one hour into the game and finished the tutorial and found the bow which in fact one shots most lower level zombies in the head. Thats also another point I shouldn't have to make but hey its a zombie game. The game even tells you the crystalization points are their weak spot, so aim for the head.

  • I have to manage my resources with food and drink but I keep dying WAAAA
The game is called metal gear SURVIVE for a reason. The game also gives you ample resources to keep yourself alive. You can use agriculture and have a farm growing potatos or carrots. You can capture live stock, you can find water in nature, and you can hunt animals for meat and pelts. The in game map clearly shows you where animals are as hunting side missions. The game also gives you the ability to use custom map markers so you can make the map your own. Want to mark this pond in the wild? Use a water drop stamp. Want to mark this area because carrots tend to grow here? You can mark that too. Unfortunatly a lot of negative reviews dont get far enough into the game to even see some of these mechanics in play.

Now to my opinion on the game

Metal Gear Survive is fantastic. To be able to take a sucessful IP such as metal gear, give me a spin off what if scenario in a completely differnt style and genre of a game while maintining the core aspects of what metal gear like stealth and managing resources and still make it good? I'm in awe.

First and foremost however if you don't like survival games, or if managing your resrouces like food is too difficult for you, or if you dont like zombies in a game then hey the game might not be for you. I know not everyone is into those types of games. That being said people shouldn't complain about the games core aspects because thats what the game is. Its like if I wrote a bad review on a Need For Speed game and complained there are too many cars!

I knew since I played the beta that I would love this game for what it is. Its challenging while fun. It teaches you to watch your resources. I keep having to ask myself before I venture out " Do I have enough food or water? Do I have enough arrows? Is my gear fully repaired?" I can't remember the last time I played a game that really challenged the player to think ahead and plan out.

I could almost compare the games dynamic difficulty to something like dark souls. The game teaches the player through death. I failed a tutorial mission because I ran out of food, so now I make sure to always carry extra. I failed another mission because I wasted too much time scavenging for resoruces. Now I know to finish missions in a more timely fashion and not to waste time. I died in another section because I tried to go guns blazing and was outnumbered too fast. I tried a stealthier approcach and cut down the zombies in half which made it much more easier if I got spotted.

Controls are smooth and responsive. Plays exactly like MGSV if you've played that just with some optimazations on movement. You have access to a perk system where over time you can upgrade your stats while learning new abilities like a CQC counter, or dive attacks with weapons from higher up.

I plan to update this review in time when I have more hours and a more complete understanding of the game. As it is though I highly recomend it if you're a fan of stealth, survival, crafting or zombie games. Good luck out there Survivng.

I wouldlike to give a lenghty warning with my review. Be warned that this game is very expertly crafted. You're whole heartedly immeresed in the world of someone who has deppression. If you percieve the message that was intended by the developers and author(s) of this game then you just might understand what it means to have depression. You try to relate to the character and may or may not proceede forward as you would in your very own life. After playing this game for an hour I found myself emotionally drained with a new found respect with people that suffer from dispression. It is very insightful to attempt to walk in the very large shoes that the main character walks in or to even get a taste, a small experinece of how difficult life is for anyone suffering from any form of depression. I highly recomend everyone to try this game. Its opened my eyes and heart a little for some friends that I have who suffer from depression. I hope it opens yours.

gameplay : n/a - Story is text driven with response prompts that further the story line with previous decisions taken into effect
story : 7 - While the story is very short and you can complete the series in one session it is incredibly powerful. My only remark is that I would rather it have been longer. I feel like the game ends rather abruptly which is why it gets a low 7 or high 6 out of 10.
character development : 6 - There is some character devlopment however the games structure kind of just throws you into the world of the main character. Some explanation should have been added to show the main characters relationship with others and how it effects you as the main character.
recomnded : Highly recomended to others.
overall score : 7 - this game does what its intended, which is to to give a look into someones life who has depression.
