This is a fantastic rougelike that has incredibly fluid combat fun weapons and great challenge. If you love action rougelikes or just 2d platformers with great movement I pretty certain you'll love this game. It combines both into a masterful and smooth experience that is simply fun.

The great parts:
* The challenge is super well done especially after you start on the unique spin this game has on ascension. You can both effortlessly weave around enemies with your extensive movement and generous I frames when dashing through an enemy. And yet there are enough environmental hazards and interlacing enemy attack patterns you'll find yourself getting your ♥♥♥♥ kicked by the enemies regardless.
* The music, omg the music is incredible and probably like nothing you've ever heard. But you could have probably figured that out from the trailer so I don't think I need to elaborate.
* The story, a suprisingly touching and fun story that you'll progress and unlock through multiple runs. This is a really well done, not on the level of something like Hades but the different quests you do by going through different areas is fun.
* The art, this game is gorgeous all through out this isn't just a pretty trailer.
* The weapon variety is amazing, all the weapons feel super unique with their own attack patterns special attacks and conditions. Each weapon is super fun to pilot and offers something different and you're encouraged to switch it up throughout the run until you find something good enough to fit your build.

The lacking:
* Build variety is fine but it's not something super deep. You have synergies and interesting and unique medallions that spice up your run. But runs usually find different ways to do the same things, It's not worse compared to other 2d action rougelikes but I feel like there could be more. Currently the variety mostly comes from from the different primary and secondary weapons. It's fine enough but definitely could be improved.
* There are some jank endge cases that have to do mostly with climbing onto semisolids when you don't want to, but they aren't super prevalent and I doubt they'll stay long. The game controls great besides that.
* Unique rewards to go to certain areas, currently all rewards an area can give you are randomized. Meaning besides story quest reasons there aren't any unique reasons to go to certain areas besides the randomized generic loot. Having unique rewards for the different areas would make pathing your run more engaging.

I'm going to preface this by saying I did not like void stranger. Now you might be asking why am I recommending it then?

That's because I think it's a good game...
for other people.

I am a Sokoban fanatic and coming in blind on a recommendation, I expected a Sokoban game with interesting puzzles with a vast meta layer and story on top. Unfortunately the regular puzzles were too simplistic for my taste.

If you are new to the genre and don't have much experience with logic puzzles or Sokobans this game is very accessible. But if you have some experience don't expect to be challenged much by the regular puzzles at least until quite a ways in.
The game is technically a Sokoban but I wouldn't recommend it as one.

The meta stuff I did encounter was very interesting and the story and lore gripped me hard. If that's what you're interested in this game will deliver. But if you're looking for a new Sokoban I'd suggest looking elsewhere because that's not this game's strong suit I'm afraid.

This is very much a hate it or love it game, you're probably either going to have a 5 hour stint with this game or a 50 hour obsession. And I find that those games become people's all time favorites, so if any of what I said sounds interesting to you and you think you have the perseverance to stick with this game maybe try it out and see if it becomes your all time favorite, or at least a temporary unhealthy obsession :P

This is one of my favorite puzzle games ever made, period. It's got the same puzzles withing puzzles within puzzles quality that baba is you has. It contains unimaginable depth and so many high quality puzzles it's frankly absurd.

The game has very innovative mechanics combining both completely original elements with concepts I've seen in other puzzle games to great effect and novel outcomes. It introduces these mechanics at a satisfying pace that will keep you curious.

Fair warning though this game has quite a bit of "pure" sokoban. often levels will contain just the right amount of space for a level to be beatable and not a tile more. This is very much a hate it or love it thing but it's very satisfying to pull off.

This is an extremely underrated puzzle game and if you are a fan of sokobans I HIGHLY recommend to pick it up, but I'm unsure if it's a good starting point to newcomers of the genre.

P.s ignore my play time I once left the game open for multiple days straight and it counted all of that.

I initially looked at this game close to it's release and didn't think much of it. Balance felt off and builds felt the same semi because of it.

I decided to give it another shot and I'm so incredibly glad I did. The updates this game received have taken it from a 3/5 to a 4.5/5 for me. Builds feel varied and unique balance is tight (altough some starter kits struggle a little in higher difficulties it's never too bad). The collections page is never ending and the game seems to be brimming with secrets. I'm saying this as someone who doesn't really care for connect-N games but these changes have really made this game into a true evolution of the concept.
Enemy variety is a little lacking which is funny compared to the amazing boss variety and I feel like this is where the game is lacking the most compared to it's peers which have many interesting regular battles.

This is such a hidden gem (ba dum tss) and I really hope more people will take a look at this amazing solo dev project.

this is a phenomenal game. it is overflowing with charm and full of endearing touches and attention to detail. the puzzles start easy but ramp up nicely to some quite challenging puzzles creating a very well crafted difficulty curve. while the mechanics are very simple, there are a lot of emergent tricks and nuances that are thought to you beautifully within certain levels. the game is short it took me 4 hours to 100% it but that is because it is very concise, no puzzle feels empty, they all have a little twist that makes a good puzzle.
