Path of Exile 2 Review: Pre-Patch 0.1.1 (Early Access Thoughts)
Alright, first things first—this is just my opinion based on the early access version of the game (before patch 0.1.1). PoE 2 is obviously still a work in progress, so things might improve later. But as it stands now, here’s how I feel about it:

Path of Exile 2 is crazy fun and super addictive—like, seriously, once you start, it’s hard to stop. BUT (and it’s a big "but"), I honestly can’t recommend it right now, and here’s why:

The Trade System is Stuck in the Past
Let’s just call it out—the trade system is painfully old-school... in all the wrong ways. Why on earth isn’t there a centralized marketplace yet? This isn’t some brand-new idea; other older games like Guild Wars and FFXIV have had them for years. I mean, PoE has been around for over a decade—10 years, guys! What are the devs even doing? It’s beyond frustrating to deal with this ancient trade system in 2025.
Boss Fights Are Brutal and Unfair
Don’t get me wrong, I love a good challenge, but some of the boss fights in PoE 2 just don’t respect the player's time. There’s no way to learn the mechanics unless you either get one shot in any skill and if you fail you pay a huge price for it or spoil yourself by looking up guides online. Imagine a Dark Souls or Elden Ring scenario where, if you lose to bosses like Miquella or The Lord of Cinder, you have to restart the game from the beginning. It’s nuts. You’ll spend more time stressing out than actually enjoying the game.
Game Balance is a Mess
Class balance? Yeah, it’s awful. Most people stick to stuff like Witch, Sorc, or Monk because they’re just flat-out better, while some other classes are straight-up forgotten.
Bugs. So Many Bugs.
Sure, it’s early access, so bugs are expected. But the sheer number of small, annoying bugs in the game is unreal. Some are harmless, some crash the whole game. Either way, it’s not fun having to deal with them constantly.
The Cult-Like Community
Honestly, the community for PoE feels kind of... weird. It’s like they’ll worship the game no matter what. Features that should’ve been in the game from day one are treated like gifts from the heavens when they finally arrive. And if you dare criticize the game? Well, brace yourself—you’re either getting roasted or straight-up shut down. Oh, if someone gets scammed, the community somehow manages to blame the victim. I mean, really, is this the “amazing community” everyone loves? Because I sure don’t see it.
So yeah, PoE 2 could be a great game someday, but it’s just not there yet. Hopefully, things will get better with time, but for now, I’d say save yourself the frustration and give it a pass.
