I've played OpenTTD since 2007 or thereabouts, and it's spiritual predecessor Transport Tycoon was the very first game I picked up in the mid-90s. With thousands of hours on the board, it's safe to say this game will stay with me for as long as it and I exist.

Trucks? Yeah. Buses? Yeah. Trains? Yeah. Planes? Yeah. Boats? Yeah. Trams? Kamnet knows that the answer is yes.

Easily modded? Yeah.

Play scenarios based on real worlds? Yeah.

Adjust it exactly to my liking? Yeah.

Seriously. This game is free, and despite new games popping up frequently in Tycoon style, this remains on top.

Three hours in, and without having played CK2 due to the daunting task of learning it, I can say I definitely recommend CK3.

Why?
* The tutorial is helpful, although I recommend playing it twice
* Just a few days post-launch, there are already several Beginners Guides that help you get going
* I'm having too much fun wreaking havoc on the island of Ireland

If you're on the fence about CK3, especially in regards to the threshold for beginners, don't fret. 3 hours in, I know nothing, but I'm having fun. I can't wait to start picking up on nuances, and start properly scheming!

Stressful day at the office? Your kids screaming all weekend? This is the perfect relaxation. It's meditation in the shape of a video game. Hit the road, Jack, and don't you come back until you run a transport empire of 100 truckers.

The graphics are acceptably good, the physics on the trucks great, and the game is open to mods.

You can play for just 15 minutes, if that's your thing, or sink an all-nighter hauling from San Diego to Seattle via Phoenix and Las Vegas, and then back again.

If you haven't played Planet Coaster, the construction mechanics will be foreign and not intuitive. Countless Youtube tutorials later, I am still struggling to wrap my head around it.

The game could really do with a proper walkthrough. Instead, I feel myself immediately not knowing what to do even at the very start. That threshold is not helpful for a first time player.

I've played just over 12 hours when editing this review, but I still hold that the game has an unhelpful learning curve. I've come over it with a lot of Googling and tips from other players, but that should not be necessary.
