This game is 100% worth your money, I don't care who you are. This game is FUN, and I mean that in the way that truly artistic takes on a medium are fun. The story and characters are phenomenal and I definitely felt like there were characters I truly came to hate, or love, or mourn. The scaling and combat are wonderful, definitely a "You shouldn't be in this area and you'll find out by dying in 3 seconds" kind of game, plus the various combat styles feel dynamic. Unfortunately full magic combat isn't unlocked until the late mid-game, but you'll definitely feel glad to have it when it comes around. The overall plot hooked me, but the ability to go around and just... do stuff is absolutely unlimited (as long as you have the guts to face the dangers along the way). The gameplay time I put into this just... naturally is incredible for the price. Save yourself some time and just grab this game. This is my 2024 game of the year.

Early Access Review
Darkwood, at its core, is a game that's made to be difficult. It's a different style of difficult than some other games, but to be good at this game, it requires timing, accuracy, memorization, and serious caution. Playing, you may die many times. But every time, you grow and learn more, what not to do. There is rarely a time (except early with chompers) that you feel you were cheated when dying. A lot of the experience of the game is raw fear of the unknown. Seeing something move in a distant room through your bird's eye perception, but lacking further knowledge of what it is. It's a fear of the noises you hear, in the creaking footsteps almost sounding outside your room's door or window. It's in the horrific thought of a person whose body morphed to become a hideous monstrosity. It's a building fear that, as you play, you become a bit hardended to. The lingering fear disappears as you become knowledgable in the environment. You'll still definitely clench for dear life onto your mouse as a chomper flies through your barricaded door, but there becomes a sort of knowing. "Fear is a leaf off of the stem of ignorance. Once I knew what it was, it was simply a problem. Nothing to fear." The story is really amazing too, because the game really makes you work to figure out the story. Riddles and slight pieces of information that glue into an almost imperfect web of story that is nightmarish and solemn. And you really can't have better devs. Every bug they're emailed about gets looked into, and hotfixes / updates are large and frequent.

TL;DR: The game's atmosphere really feels powerful, the story is amazing, and the devs work so hard for us.

Game sucks.... UNTIL you learn your character's move set. Take it from me, don't keep switching characters because they don't feel like they "work for you." Make them work. Learn the moves. As soon as you do, the game's fun increased by 30 times. Yeah, the servers can be crap, but the game's level of fun doesn't feel hindered by it (unless you can't even launch the game, looking at you UBISOFT!) Honestly, don't judge it off of your first game. It's really skill-capped and the more you play, the better it gets.

Bought the starter edition of this game yesterday. After download, the game proves unplayable because it cannot connect to their servers. I have tried everything on the internet that they say may help, yet it remains unplayable for me, a problem which has been occuring since BETA. Ridiculous.

Holy CRAP. I just finished this game and -man- did it give me an emotional rollercoaster. My heart broke multiple times during this game. Characters were built realitistically, and with strong backgrounds. Story is top-notch, to which I couldn't predict the plot twists (which normally is a piece of cake for me). Combat kept me on the edge of my seat! Short. but sweet and definitely worth the money for the game. 9.5/10 with the .5 off simply because of the fact that it's an RPG-maker game with low graphics. Big whup.

Really awesome game overall.
Pros: The graphics are pretty good compared to some games, whether cartoonized or just plain fuzzy, while this appears immersively real. Easy to forget that you're not actually some hot-shot archer training for battle. Overall the best game for cardio I have found for the Vive, providing a good amount of sweat and fun.
Cons: Cord is easy to trip over when you're spinning around every few seconds, and the bow mechanics are a bit unrealistic with your arrow-hand not affecting trajectory. But, it's a game and that can be overlooked.
