Early Access Review
It's a tragedy that this game is Mixed on Steam.

Everyone is talking about how it has potential, but it's pretty damn good right now even while it's being assembled and polished. I first played this game while it was in closed beta and it was rough to the point where I wasn't really able to see what they're going for.

It reminded me vaguely of some Korean MMOs (vindictus, Tera, etc) and I was worried about having a character that was a halfway point between being your own and being rigged archetype. In those games, I struggled to get invested because I couldn't really make them my own nor were they interesting to me on their own merits.

In Wayfinder's current state, I can see where it's going and I'm really excited. The characters you play aren't totally your own, but instead they're on the other side of the spectrum where they're characters that stand on their own.

Instead of traditional MMO characters, they're like Warframes. You're going to be earning them over time and switching between them based on what you feel like playing or maybe what you feel would be best for a certain fight.

I knew Digital Extremes was involved, but it didn't hit me how much

I think the game, more than anything, needs to communicate what it will be like in the long run because it's really damn promising. I'm really crossing my fingers that this game gets the love and attention it deserves on launch when they get a clean slate.

This expansion, in my opinion, made an alright installment into a good one. Especially for players like me. Monsters pose a genuine threat now and the 42 new moves really add a lot to chew on when you take the time to mess around with other weapons.

It hurts to say this, but it kinda sucks at the moment. Crashes and disconnects and it takes AGES to find a match.

Also, as a free-to-play game there is very little room to enjoy and get invested in the game. As far as I can tell you can't unlock anything relating to gameplay except for character skills. When every character is 6 dollars and the base game is 30 it just feels like there is no point in playing unless you get the standard edition or whatever.

Ignore the current score. This is one of the best mmos on the market. The russian and brazilian communities are salty because they don't get to pay less than everyone else anymore.

The base 1-50 experience is good by mmo standards, but the story telling is taken to a whole 'nother level in the expansions heavensward and stormblood. The game has all of the best parts of the final fantasy series and is unquestionably a must play for fans of the series. If your new to the series there is also no better starting point. Series staples like chocobos, summons (that take the form of primals this time around), and recurring characters are all here in abundance. If you've ever had any interest in the series this is a great game to get started with.

This game is a fantastic MMO in every respect. Just as long as you're ok with a long story mode that runs parallel to your progress. The game is a fully fleshed out experience that provides a respectible amount of variety and has the single friendliest mmo community I've ever come across.

The story mode can feel like a real barrier to entry if you just want to get straight to the end game. While it does offer some really amazing moments and it really immerses you in the world it can seem never ending and a large number of dungeons and bosses are locked behind it. Also, the early parts do feel pretty rushed when it comes to quality and they feel like they're just there to fill up the first 50 levels. Once you get through it you'll love the game to death, but it's definitely an accomplishment that not everyone has the patience or time for. Don't be afraid to put the game down every now and then and come back to it later.
