This feels like the return of the franchise. The setting manages to resemble Midnight Club/Underground, the city is very well designed and is not tiny, it was created for racing in mind and has a lot of little alleys and jumps and stuff you can do for both shortcutting and acrobating for escaping the cops. The city also has tons of tunnels to get the copter off you so that's nice:

The good

- Handling is much better than any NFS since Rivals (including Heat). Full Grip buillds are viable and rewarded equally to their drift counterparts. Grip builds honestly feel a lot like NFS MW and UG depending on the car you are driving. Still very arcadey and that's fine.
- The sense of speed is great. The near cam with shaking to the max (its a setting) you can feel super fast starting at 250+ km/h. Going 400 km/h in this game feels insane like in ProStreet.
- The city is super well designed, it feels like Midnight Club.
- The double turbo system is cool and makes for a increased skill ceiling
- Game is tough. It's way harder than any NFS game in the past years. Cops are ruthless in high heat (which you can easily attain even at the start of the game). The handling takes a bit of getting accustomed to so don't expect to win many races the first couple of in-game days, you have to think about how you spend your money every day and the races you are doing due to the way the Heat system works.
- Graphics are beautiful, not quite Forza Horizon 5 but stands on it's own with a different art style and definitely looks a lot better than previous entries.
- The day/night cycle system is cool and makes the game feel more dynamic. For example you are not incentivized to play the same races over and over because they earn the most, as this is shifted around a lot.
- Customization is the same since 2015 (which is not a bad thing) with a few improvements, for example: Some cars have new options, you can modify the headlights color to ANY color, much better vinyl options (A LOT BETTER). And some amazing new rims, oh also you can completely remove bumpers on most of the cars. Some of the legendary body kits are also insanely cool, love the creativity.
- Car list is the same as heat with a couple dozen additions, but the additions are GREAT. Some great cars like the S13, Eclipse, Countach, MB 180E, etc.
- Performance is good, with my 3070 ti I am getting 100 fps consistently in 1440p. The game feels finished.


The mid:
- The story is there, it's not terrible though, the prologue was nice but since then it's mostly fed through calls while you free roam or while in the garage.
- The dialogue/characters are a mixed bag. Some of the dialogue is so bad it's funny but I think the game is self aware about this as the main character (you) often shrugs as some of the stupid things people say. Rydell's character is awesome. He feels alive.
- The cel shaded characters and effects around your car. Personally, i think it's awesome, as they really make your car feel strong doing jumps or pressing max nitro burst.

The bad:
- The cops are a mixed bag for me. While the AI is mostly good and the chases are exhilarating at some points, it's too much. If you are outside the city with high heat its practically impossible to not meet cops as there are not many roads they can spawn besides the ones you are on and not many places for you to go to avoid them, on the city it's fine as you can take many turns and there are many alleys and stuff with this purpose. You will come out of most races with cops chasing you which is ok if you didnt have to spend 10 minutes running for them in Heat 5 which becomes commonplace in later stages of the game.
- While personally I haven't met this bug, I've seen people that get a crazy rubberbanding bug where the AI just catches up to you with a big few seconds advantage before the finish line or the AI getting a few kilometers ahead of you (this would imply the AI is going like 600 km/h lol).
- The damage system is super inconsistent like in Heat. Sometimes barely scraping a cop takes 20% off your health and sometime YOU hitting the cop does more damage to you than them (and I am talking about the light cop cars not the heavy cars), but it's still better than Heat. Due to this issue, most of the times its better to try to outmaneuver them than try to fight them unless you got some massive truck like a F150.
- The world destruction system is not that good. Most of the stuff your destroy basically turns to dust in front of you.
- Multiplayer is lackluster. I hear it's gonna get improved upon with patches.
- The crash system is also inconsistent. Crashing at 30km/h can cause you to roll over 300 times and sometimes crashing at 200km/h just stops you dead on the spot with no crash cam. It would be nice if I am able to predict whats gonna happen.
- The driving physics are quirky at times, but I feel it's more of a skill issue lol.

I would rate the game a 9/10. It has a few quirks but nothing deal breaking and the game is very fun. Good job Criterion

Good 8.5/10 game

Too good of a remake to even be called one. Deserves to be it's own standalone version.

Gameplay is slow, but that does not mean bad, it's by design and flows amazing with the style of the game.

Best 4X game I have played.. all of it is good.
