short and cute, makes you a bit mad but you just can't stop playing, hahah. you don't need a controller to beat it all the way if you don't mind having the added difficulty of being able to shoot in only 8 directions (which isn't as bad as it sounds, you just need to think a bit more about positioning yourself and everything around you before shooting).

the bosses are really fun and well designed. if you know exactly what you're doing and get used to dodging you can beat them all super fast. figuring out weakpoints is as easy as trusting your instincts after seeing a single attack cycle or experimenting a little. the downtime after death before you get back to the boss is actually a good addition (there's a single titan you spawn right in front of and the lack of downtime actually wears you out faster!) as it let's you calm down and think of a strategy. and i love love love the lack of repetition in the fights! you never have to repeat the same action 3 times, both you and the bosses are one-shot.

overall an amazing game for people looking for a challenge <3 if you found hyper light drifter and cuphead fun, this is a good addition to your library, albeit a bit more difficult!

At first I was worried this game wouldn't live up to the hype, or even to the level of the first game in the series. I must say I was delightfully, completely wrong. The writing and creativity continue to blow me away (even more so this installment), the graphics and character animations/expressions are *completely* stunning, the voice acting has no business being this good and the fighting system was greatly improved, it actually feels fun!

Even though as of writing this review I only completed the first (besides the tutorial) mission, I can say with no doubt in my mind that the creators poured their hearts into making this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ treasure. And to this day it is probably one of the only 2 games I would deem worthy of their $60+ price tag (the other one being Zelda BOTW). Getting it for half the price now feels like a steal, at least in my opinion.

Absolutely ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ amazing writing. Holy s. I can't recommend this game enough.
The characters, the setting, the mysteries are all well designed. Going into my first trial, I felt the stress together with the main character. After managing to solve a case on my own before a trial, I felt incredible satisfaction. You get attached to characters. You root for them, hate them, enjoy their company, want to bring them down. Truly an unforgettable experience. How is this game not one of the main cult classics?

The only problem I had with it was that, sometimes, even if you knew the answer to a question the game was throwing at you, you could still be at a total loss when it came to doing exactly what the game wanted you to do. Even so, the writing makes those little annoyances totally worth every second and penny you pour into playing.

If you're wondering whether to buy it, wonder no more. Do it, it's incredible.

learning the layout of the town after getting lost all the time was satisfying :) the map wrapping around was really confusing though, haha

i never thought the ocean was scary
this game proved me wrong and now i'm terrified of depths

I was ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ weeping at the end. This is a story or... art, much more than it is a game. I think you get the best experience when you come with absolutely no expectations. So go. Don't spoil it for yourself.

I fear this review before the edit was unfair to the sheer amount of love that was put into this game.

It is simply put, amazing. Breathtaking, visually stunning, provides a decent challenge and immersion into it's well crafted atmosphere. If you value the graphics, ambient and fluid gameplay equally, then I'm sure you will enjoy it as much as I did - which is tons.

I came back years after finishing it to edit this and i think that speaks volumes. I owe at least this much to the developers who inspired me to create my own games in the future :)
