458 Hours played
Baldur's Gate 3 has been nothing short of a transformative experience for me. After sinking over 435 hours into this masterpiece and finishing it seven times, I can confidently say that this game has changed the way I view RPGs—and in many ways, the way I approach gaming as a whole. Larian Studios has crafted something truly special here, and for anyone who loves a deep, story-driven experience, this game delivers on every front.

From the very first moments, you're pulled into a rich, intricate world where every decision matters. The complexity of the storytelling is staggering. The branching narratives, the sheer variety of outcomes, and the layers of interwoven character arcs kept me coming back for more each time. Each playthrough felt like a new adventure, with different choices leading to new discoveries, characters, and outcomes. I’ve never seen a game offer this level of replayability and nuance, making each run feel fresh despite knowing the overarching plot.

One of the aspects that struck me the most was the sheer attention to detail. Larian's commitment to creating a living, breathing world is evident in everything from the breathtaking facial animations to the deeply expressive voice acting. Every character, whether a central figure or a minor NPC, feels real, with their own goals, motivations, and quirks. It’s rare to find a game where even the smallest interaction can pull you in like this, but Baldur's Gate 3 manages to do that effortlessly.

The companions, in particular, are some of the most memorable I’ve ever encountered in a game. Each one has their own unique story, and over my many hours with them, I’ve formed real attachments. Their personal quests, conflicts, and the bonds you form with them only grow deeper as the game progresses. By the time I finished my seventh run, I still felt emotionally invested in these characters—something few games manage to achieve.

The gameplay is equally as rewarding. Every combat encounter is thoughtfully crafted and requires tactical thinking. The way the game integrates D&D 5th Edition rules is seamless, offering a perfect blend of accessibility for newcomers and depth for veterans. While I’ve only been a Dungeon Master a few times in the past few years, I’ve spent countless hours as a player, and Baldur's Gate 3 captures the heart and soul of those tabletop sessions. It doesn’t just mimic D&D mechanics—it brings them to life in a way that feels both familiar and fresh, making every battle, dialogue choice, and exploration feel impactful.

As someone who’s experienced D&D primarily as a player, the game’s ability to make you feel like part of a living, breathing world is truly remarkable. The tactical depth of combat feels authentic to the tabletop experience, but it’s the storytelling and character interactions that resonate the most. Every time I play, I get to explore new dialogue options, different character builds, and alternative quest paths that keep things exciting, no matter how many times I’ve been through it before.

Beyond the technical achievements, Baldur's Gate 3 has offered me something even more personal. It's a game I can lose myself in, where the world and its characters feel like companions through long hours of gameplay. The emotional weight of their stories—their struggles, hopes, and conflicts—has kept me coming back time and time again. It's a rare experience to find a game that not only entertains but also provides comfort in difficult moments. For me, Baldur's Gate 3 is more than just a game—it's become a world I can return to whenever I need an escape.

In an age where so many games feel incomplete or marred by microtransactions, Baldur's Gate 3 stands as a testament to what the medium can achieve. Larian Studios has proven that a game can be deep, expansive, and endlessly replayable without cutting corners. With no strings attached—no subscriptions or hidden costs—it’s a full, rich experience right from the start.

To say Baldur’s Gate 3 has improved my life may seem dramatic, but after 435 hours and seven playthroughs, it’s hard to deny its impact. It’s reignited my love for RPGs, reminded me of the magic that can exist in a well-crafted world, and given me countless hours of joy, challenge, and emotional connection. Larian has raised the bar for what RPGs can be, and I’m excited to see what they do next.
