Played just the free weekend. But I have lots of hours in Civ V.

As every other critic seems to say, "the game is ok, but lacking". Some people points to graphics, which I believe is not a weak point here. Other people points to game mechanics, but I can't really say something deep around that with only one game played. What I don't see mentioned on other reviews is the narrative aspect, wich I found very lacking compared to Civ V.

VI has some nice new mechanics. Spying is more fun, the distrincts are very nice, and religion is also more sophisticated. Those are actual improvements over V. But the problem is not there.

If you've also played Beyond Earth, you will know what I mean. Is that feeling that the narrative is not epic at all, or at least as Civ V was. On Civ V, you had big screens celebrating different and significant actions, like changing eras or building a wonder. On Civ VI, those things are still there, but somehow not as notable as before. Civ V wonders, for example, when constructed, it was sometimes breathtaking, while in Civ VI is just another 3D animation. Have you ever built a wonder in Beyond Earth? Did you felt that feeling that it wasn't a wonder at all, but just another building?
That's what i mean. Interactions with other leaders were also impactant in V: remember Ghengis Kahn, in the open field, mounted in a magnificent horse with that beautiful music. Here, leaders are all cartoonish, always with the same black background. Music: in V you have you civ music, and other civs music, changing when on war. War music was scary and very epic almost every time. And, when not, you have you continent music, like europe or asia, with selected masterpieces. On VI, music changes from time to time between yours and others civs. There are different interpretations per era, but there's no war music. VI music is beautiful: but it get mostly lost as background music, with nothing to say. And the quotes: I can't explain how, but V quotes felt much more memorable than VI. Again, like the quotes of Beyond Earth, which seemed to follow its own lore.

If you add to that some technical issues, like new requirements, we have a problem.

Overall, while a nice game, can't say i'm buying it any time soon: i'd rather play Civ V. Which is kinda sad, because I love Civ, and really wanted to enjoy VI.



EDIT:
A thousand hours played and multiple updates later, Civ VI is well beyond V in every aspect (with the only exception of leader and era screens, and maybe even wonders). Totally recommended.

I can feel how this game lowers my IQ. It's a guilty pleasure.

I buyed this game because of the possitive reviews. I found that misguided after playing. The game has nothing wrong, but it's clearly not the big deal other comments state here; it's just an ok game and that's it.

They said this game had an innovative relation with sound, and i found it messy at best: it's just boring noise. Its strange concept of hotel defense is also overrated in the possitive comments. Just another average defense game.

Maybe it's a good game for tablets or phones, but i would not recommend this for playing on a computer.

El mejor Fallout de todos. Y los add-ons son muy recomendables.
