This is how you make a Pokemonlike that isn't just another clone! The battle system is so unique and more complex than other monster collector RPGs. The creatures themselves are all incredibly charming and well-designed without being obvious copycats of other franchises and despite being flat, 2d images, are so much more animate with distinct personalities. The whole volleyball premise may seem odd but it WORKS!

This is not going to be a DLC that everyone will enjoy but I can appreciate what it's trying to do. It's a definite departure from the usual X game formula, creating a compressed and self-contained narrative that revolves around a series of isolated missions. The quality of the the missions vary with some being pretty alright while others are just absurdly designed. Despite its description I think these will appeal more to series veterans who get to revisit key moments in X lore re-imagined in X4.
Despite it being primarily focused around these missions there are some additions to the open universe in the form of a new minor faction and small story line.
Overall it's an interesting experiment and I think it's good Egosoft is willing to try different things. This will be a very hit or miss DLC for most people but I'm more than happy to support the company so they can continue developing for this and future games

Pros
Amazing movement system: It has a learning curve but once it clicks it's incredibly smooth and fluid
Challenging platforming: This game does not hand hold you. Much of the levels requires you to figure out how to best tackle it and demands precision in your platforming. It'll give you visual hints but nothing that screams in your face "hey, go here!"
Delightful visual design: The PS2/Gamecube-esk visuals oozes charm as does the character designs. The fantasy desert setting is a rather unique theme especially given how these characters are anglers.
Feels like a full game: I've paid for game that are less substantial than this. It may be a demo but it's a BIG demo that can take several hours to fully complete

Cons
Level design: While much of the platforming is challenging in a fun way, other parts just feel unfair. One missed jump can send you all the way back to the beginning of a long climb. The checkpoints that let you return to certain difficult sections are few and far between
Camera: The camera can be wonky and make precise platforming more difficult than it should be. Not an uncommon complaint for games of this type but it can feel frustrating given how this game demands precision jumps and wall runs a lot of the time.

Overall, I'm incredibly charmed by this demo and it has wholeheartedly won me over for the full game. The pros definitely outweigh the cons. The level design and camera issues my only real complaint but I'm sure that's something that can be addressed in the full release
