There are two main reasons Baldur's Gate 3 is my Game of the Year.

1. It has the most realistic representations of choices and consequences in a video game - it is an actual role-playing game. Your choices define your story on a multitude of levels - beyond just "good" and "evil".

2. The combat can be as simple or complicated as you'd like. The calculations, dice rolls, and rules of DnD are right there if you want to see it, but combat can be as simple as point and click. It can be difficult to have an accessible learning curve but BG3 maintains both the fun and the challenge.

Hoping we get more from Larian in the future!

I've played this game a lot. I wasn't the most diehard MGS fan prior to the series, so the story didn't need to grab me that much to keep me interested. The gameplay is amazing. It's so good that I keep thinking I want to try Metal Gear Survive.

The easiest comparison is XCOM with mechs. But that only covers the genre, as a game with both a strategic layer and a grid based tactical layer.
You're not saving the world or overthrowing your alien overlords. You're a mercenary with a few giant stompy mechs and you can do whatever jobs you want. The game does have a story it encourages you to follow, but once you're done and you're looking for more, there are mods out there to expand your experience! Actually, I guess XCOM is like that too...

BATTLETECH. XCOM with mechs.
